Ahimsa Paramodharma comes from Bhishma’s mouth lying on the bed of arrows after THE WAR IS OVER. Ahimsa means not having anger in your mind against even your enemy whom you might be fighting against in a war.

If Arundhati moves ahead of Vashisht, calculations based on astronomy is what Nilesh Oak did. So those dates arrived at by him are accurate, authentic and acceptable.

I have studied in a catholic school and when we had our moral science Christian student will go to different room to read and study Bible. Why cannot we do that with Mahabharata and ramayan even quaran .why can't we cannot include religious teachings in schools so every student will know what they are following and there will be no discrimination

"Ahimsa Paramo Dharma. Dharma himsa tathaiva cha" Translation: Non-violence is the ultimate dharma. So too is violence in service of Dharma. Do not misrepresent this to make it seem like Hindus were meek non violent folk. We have been just the opposite when Dharma was under attack.

DharmaHimsaa is the himsa as ordained by Dharma. In its furthest point, it is referring to capital punishment conferred by a supreme court judge on to a criminal. It means in such case, it is the judge's Dharma to order that himsa. It is again the himsa of the warrior at the borders fighting the enemy. It is also the policeman using saama daana bheda danda.

Why does no one talk about scholarship of our own gurus and Acharyas - for example, the Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya? (Sri Madhwacharya)

    • @knowmorephilosophy2735

      Perfectly said !
Not just the Mahabharata itself but each dimension of what the speakers are trying to portray are already done in the Tatparya Nirnaya of Acharya Madhva.
Chapter 1 addresses the essence of the Vedas
Chapter 2 addresses the adulteration / hijacking of the Mahabharata back in 13th century itself
Chapter 2 specifically highlights the 6 types of adulteration (decimation , interpolation , misinterpretation , error while copying / printing errors , grammatical ignorance and finally deliberate agenda based subversion )
Chapter 2 also extols the greatness of the Bharata, it’s comparison with the Vedas in essence , the role of Rishi Vyasa and so on
Chapter 3 onwards highlights how Bharata is an encapsulation of everything that one can conceive and perceive through the analogies presented in the Bharata.
In a supplementary text (Yamaka Bharatam) : The Acharya highlights the importance of the letter “Bha” to India ! He writes a shloka with only the letter “Bha” repeated in the 4 padas! The commentary expounds the different meanings of this word “Bha” with its combinations and so on .

Great Talk ! But the role of Indic commentators on the Mahabharata is something that is missing !
The earliest vedantic Acharya who gave utmost importance to the Mahabharata was Acharya Madhva through his magnum opus “Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya”:
Not just the Mahabharata itself but each dimension (or Atleast most) of what the speakers are trying to portray are already discussed in the Tatparya Nirnaya of Acharya Madhva especially in chapter 1 and chapter 2.
Chapter 1 addresses the essence of the Vedas, extols the greatness of Rishi Vyasa
Chapter 2 also extols the greatness of the Bharata, it’s comparison with the Vedas in essence , the role of Rishi Vyasa and so on
Chapter 2 portrays how the Bharata is perfectly in line with the Vedas thereby giving the Vedas its due significance ! It also extols the greatness of the Bharata through the lens of the Puranas . The Acharya says that Bharata acts as a magnifying lens which exemplifies the ideas of the Vedas through relatable analogies and kathas which bear an impact on the reader at all levels .
Chapter 2, Acharya mentions that he travelled across Bharat to find copies of the grantha , compared them , made observations , highlighted the 6 errors and then began his commentary.
Throughout he draws parallel to the Ramayana and the Bharata wrt the characters and so on
Also , the work literally exposes the hypocrisy of so called Mahabharata Serials of the day :
    Over emphasis on Karna
    Under emphasis on Bhima
Propaganda of Brahminical fascism through misinterpretation of the Ekalavya story
    Baseless sympathy on Duryodhana
    Allegations of fraud on Krishna
Allegations of Draupadi having 5 husbands
Conflict of karma ( violence - non violence )
Allegations on the difference between Vedic way of life and Pauranic way of life (the deities and gods etc)
    And more
To all these , he gives his answers through critical evaluation and elucidation of the spirit of Bharata!
These are just some aspects , throughout the work historical , etymological , numerological and philosophical nuances are highlighted by the Acharya !

I have often been conflicted about the reality of both Ramayana and Mahabharata, which are / were taught in my school days as Hindu epics. Many believe these to be Hindu mythology. But, when I hear scholarly work which even try to date events in both these Hindu texts, I feel that these are part history and part mythology. IMO, most of the ancient Hindu texts are allegorical or metaphorical, and not meant to be interpreted as factual. This is where interpreters of ancient Hindu texts go wrong and then become dogmatic about their own beliefs. Like the Panchatantra or Aesop's Tales, Ramayana and Mahabharata ought to be interpreted for their intrinsic or underlying meanings, not as factual events. Only then will these be accepted by both Hindus and others.

    • @sarak220

Why are you confidently talking on behalf of all hindus and others. Just talk for your self. I will tell you my imagination has no bounds and everything is possible. I term Hindu scripture to be factual. bizarre is in your head. For me anything is possible. Magic is real. explain how a fax works. How sound travels through phone around the world in NO TIME(no time delay) even out of the earth. Imagine. Telepathy, Out of body experience, synchronicity. PRIOR TO THAT, THOUSANDS OF YEARS ..PRESERVED BY SHRUTI...i.e. BY MEMORY FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.....AND IT IS NOT REALLY ABOUT GOD. They didn't provide any correct answers. I tend to agree with European scholars. Can any of the speakers clarify how Vyasa can live so many years and write Mahabharata? He is the son of Satyavati, Shantan's wife. However, he wrote Mahabharat after 4 generations? So his age is around 300-400 years? If they can answer this question, then we can believe it really happened. Otherwise, it is like another story.
