I honestly think the 7870 was the most impressive card (300$ at release, I bought mine for 250$ in 2011). its alkalies heel was the 2GB VRAM (which was normal at the time of release) as well as AMD ditching driver support later on. But the funny thing is, The card still run modern games in 2022 with the help of community drivers.... 11 years later, that is honestly INCREADIBLE which makes it the most impressive GPU in my book. It has DX12 and Vulkan support. You can run Doom Eternal, Forza Horizon 5, God of War, RDR2 and Cyberpunk even. Sure it's mostly 1080p ~30fps. But still, for a 11 year old ~250$ card it's pretty dope.

In term of cheap GPU's I personally recommended the rx570 it's really good for 1080p, it's gonna run everything you want and with correct settings. if you don't mind having less than 60 in singelplayer games you can even turn up settings to high/Ultra at for 40ish fps wich still provide a very enjoyable experience, especially if you're using a controller (what I personally do). And let's not forget that it comes in two versions, 4g of vram and 8g, if you can find the 8g version (which I have) that rules out any vram issues you could get with only 4

I know you are expecting the quality of life upgrade but you will still be surprised by how much difference it makes. If I can give you a tip though: If you can once you have put your OS on SSD do a fresh format on your HDD. When you then reinstall your games/data it will be recorded far more lineally meaning that your HDD with all the random OS writes removed will work faster too on top of the fact that it isn't having to stop accessing it's stored files every other millisecond to do OS stuff. Also please remember to never defrag an SSD, totally unnecessary(no mechanical read system) and it shortens the life of the NAND chips.

I've had my current pc with R5 1600 + 1050Ti for like 5 years now, and I think I'll keep this rig again for another year. Looking into these types of videos, it shows that the card is still decent and can still handle most modern games with some adjustments in the settings.
Another thing I'd like to add context as well, most of the games being featured in benchmarks like this are games that I have no interest in playing, so I kinda see no reason to upgrade at the moment. Heck, most of the games I've been playing on PC recently are either ports of JRPGs from the PS3/PS4 and some indie games which doesn't really need high specs. For the remainder of the year, I only have one game I plan to get on PC and that's Soul Hackers 2 and the sys req for that isn't even high.
So yeah, guess it's another waiting game for me. I don't see the likes of Elder Scrolls VI or the new Witcher game to come out anytime soon anyway, so I might end up building a pc with the RX8000/RTX50 series in the future lol.

You look at someone like PC Centric and he gets more fake and more unoriginal with every video. I use to have a gtx 1050ti in my fx 4170. When i uppgraded my pc to ryzen i moved the 1050ti a long for about a year before i got my 1070 ti. The most fun i had in gaming was with the fx 4170 and gtx 1050ti as now it's meh i can run it and i enjoyed gaming back then. It was can i run it. Sad part is i upgraded but stretch my pc's legs cause all the new games are only graphics no real gripping story. Back when i grew up in the final fantasy series. It had a great story regardless of the graphics...

When my rx480 crapped out and needed a gpu to work from home I ended up buying a 1050ti during the height of the gpu shortage for freaking $280 dollars from microcenter. My company paid for it but still I couldn't believe reputable retail stores where marking these up so much. Freaking clowns.

@Narkomancers well it's a business expense I guess. When covid began they sent us to work from home, some employees didn't have a desktop at home so the company had to buy one for them. I wasn't thrilled about replacing my rx480 for a 1050ti either but that was pretty much the only card they had in stock other than gt730 so in a way that price was what made it possible for me to go in the store and pick one up.

I was fortunate enough to pick up a cheap office Fujitsu computer with an i5 4430 and 32GB of DDR3 RAM for just 40€. On top of that I was able to snipe a GTX 1050Ti for just 40€ to plop in there, so I could easily connect all my three monitors and still watch 4k UA-cam videos. This video really got me surprised and curious to test some games on it myself. Seeing the results in this video and considering that I got this rig for just 80€ in total, I can say that I'm upmost pleased.

it's not the 1050Ti that's impressive - it's AMD's FSR tech that's breathing life into these old cards. The problem is - the vast majority of games don't support nor have been patched to support FSR properly. in non-FSR scenarios this card struggles a lot.

1050 Ti is slightly better than original graphics of PS4. Therefore, at 1080p you could play all games that were released for PS4 with similar or slightly better quality. As for PS5 games, 1080p low (with the help of FSR perhaps) is realistic setting until 2026-27 when PS6 is scheduled to be released (if we all do not die in WW3 before that :D )

Turn off ansitropic filtering an all cards, or set to lowest, you don't need it. When you move or move the mouse, you automatically blur any sharp jagging lines, and ansitropic filtering puts a massive hit on FPS. Unfortunately, it's usually on by default and sometimes set as absurdly high as 16x. Set it to OFF.

Great vid! I keep finding myself binge watching your videos. I would love to see a vid on the r5 430, it is an extreme budget card- I used it in a sub 100$ AUD build.
I found the oem gpu for 34$ free shipping, it’s got 2gb gddr5, and after overclocking I found it had around half the performance as the 1030, which for 35$ I would say it is alright for the price. Also something to note it comes in low profile great for sff builds, which is what I was using it for.
The overclocking ability of this card was insane, i managed to get a 1100 MHz for core, and 1400 MHz in memory clock, or 6500 MHz depending on the program you use for overclocking. This saw a from a 24 fps to a 40 fps jump at least in one of my games. I had used gpu tweak 3, and I went into settings and enabled higher overclocking limits. I don’t recommend overclocking quiet this high but I saw that it was stable while running. But anyway if you made it this far, Thankyou I would just love to see a review of this card including overclocking.

Such a good card, stuffed one in a tiny little alienware x51 a few years ago for my nephew, terrible little oven I know but it's what he wanted, when you're in a pinch for what you can do, it ticks a lot of boxes, and it has held up for several years as you say. I bought a gtx 980 back in 2014 and I'm still using it 8 years later, far longer than any other card I'd had before, these new gen consoles will be the end of it for sure, but what an investment it has proved to be.

What's up with 10 series GPUs still being good enough for modern gaming at 1080p? We never saw this in previous generations. I'm assuming it's because modern games target 4K and gaming in regular HD is less GPU-intensive , but maybe it also has something to do with the diminishing returns we've seen in game graphics over the past decade? Whatever the reason, I love that I can still play at high or ultra settings in newer games on my 6 year old 1070.

I bought a GTX 1050 Ti back in 2019 at $120 on Amazon, but I wasn’t able to use it until I got a new motherboard with UEFI (instead of legacy BIOS). The problem seemed to be some incompatibility between my pre-2015 AM3 motherboard and the VBIOS on the EVGA video card. But, It also didn’t work on my brothers’ PCs (both with Proper UEFI, and one Intel and the other AMD). I almost sell it, but I keep it anyway. Nowadays I avoid video cards that don’t require auxiliary power and only consider 60 series cards or above. Both GTX 1060 and RTX 2060 didn’t have this weird incompatibility problem, although rare it was very frustrating. Never had a problem with the GTX 760 and GTX 560 either. Just sharing my first hand experience.

I was finally able to get a GTX 1660 with 6 gig RAM for under $200 shipped. It replaced a GTX 1050, not Ti, with 2 gig. The main reason was because the GTX 1660 is the lowest cost nVidia GPU with the newer version of nvenc that does B-frames in h.265 video encoding. B-frames allow even greater compression while maintaining image quality.
So how about a video testing a 2 gig non-Ti GTX 1050 to see how it fares?

I do also use a 1050 Ti in a HP Pavilion prebuild system with a Ryzen 2600 and 16 Gigs 3200 and it also runs well!
I play Forza Horizon 5, AC Origins and Subnautica Below Zero all at high settings in 1080p. And in FH5 it's between 45 and 55 fps, which is fine by me, because I am used to 30 fps.
Don't know why so many want to play at exactly 60. I think I cannot see when there are 5 or 8 fps missing. ;o)
I was surprised as well by its performance, but it's 75 Watt still is a blessing for an OEM system with a non standard PSU with 310 Watts and no 6 Pin connector.

Our extra gaming pc for friends that come over has a 750ti and a 1050ti. 750ti being secondary monitor for discord/webbrowsing and the 1050ti for main gaming monitor. Taking as much needless load off the 1050ti in my dual monitor setup gives a pretty decent gaming experience in most newer games we've tried on it.
I also feel like Windows 11 handles the weird dual GPU setup a bit better than any version below it, not entirely sure but it runs a tad better than 10 did.
Edit: Just noticed the one we have is a MSI Gaming 1050ti 4GB that requires auxiliary power, giving it the ability to kick into either a Gaming or OC mode for a little boost on the clock speed.

It's worth noting that these cards usually take pretty well to a mild overclock, at least from the two cards I have experience with. I live with someone that has an MSI low profile 1050 Ti in their system, and I have an EVGA 1050 Ti SSC in my own system, paired to a Ryzen 5 1600 and Core i5-3570K respectively. My own card will take a +120/+400 core/memory overclock reliably and while it doesn't provide a _huge_ boost, it's another 5-10% to performance without significantly affecting the temperatures or power draw.

In 2017 i had two options 1050ti and rx 470, rx 470 costed just slightly more and in terms of performance was way ahead of 1050 ti so I went for 470. Little did i know what I was getting myself into: random no signals while gaming, blue screen crashes while gaming, beep beep beep while gaming. I couldn't even play for 15 mins straight. I couldn't even refund it as it came from outside of my country (us) and there was no refund policy. I'm certain everything else from psu to cpu was perfect it was just the crappy gpu causing this problem. To this day I still regret that decision. I still don't have enough money to buy a new gpu and I am stuck with integrated graphics (i sold that 470 for a little money). I wish that day I bought 1050 ti 😭😭😭
