I had my liner replaced in 2018 ..this past winter my liner got tore up from ice I believe. Watching some liner install videos I noticed padding etc. place under the liner ...my liner did not have this ... It was just dirt and then the liner ..is this correct ?! I tried patching the holes but still have a slow leak .. have a new store install a new liner ..should I ask about a layer of padding under the liner ?
There should be mason sand or stone dust underneath liner and not dirt. A floor pad is added benefit but not from winter ice damage. There is no topping winter when it decides to do it's thing. So dirt no Mason sand yes.
We are going to attempt a liner replacement on our 33' above ground pool this season...Thank you for this info!
Good Luck. It's a huge pool liner replacement to do on your own. Let me know how you do? Nice to hear folks are trying and succeeding.
