Vietnam street food - Cooking 100 Crabs for 4 People Family Dinner Meal in Vietnam

  • Seriously, you can find sea crabs everywhere in the world. It is not what I am looking for when I am in Vietnam, specially for my Vietnam street food adventure. What I am impressed at street food in Vietnam when it comes to crabs is Paddy Mud Crab, Rice Field Crab or Rice Paddy Crab. Those crabs are super small and aggressive. People in Vietnam turn them into delicious crab dishes nevertheless. I was lucky to have a dinner meal made of paddy mud crabs with my neighbor. She made a dish called Paddy crab paste vermicelli soup. This dish is a dish have full of water that the broth is charming, and sweet. The sweetness of paddy crab paste vermicelli is from the crabs themselves. This noodle soup is easily recognized by the red color of tomato and crab soup base.
    FYI: This paddy crab soup can be labor intensive, but I was surprised to find that it took my neighbor only an hour to make. For a Vietnamese soup noodle dish, I would say that is pretty quick.

    This is a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup dish called Bún riêu in case any body is wondering. In American you can get it in some Vietnamese restaurants, though it is usually a rare sight to see as it's conventionally a less commonly known dish to Americans and other Non-Vietnamese people which would make it a harder dish to sell. The flavor is a very light broth with an oceany tang to it from the integration of the crab meat and tomatoes and with the additional added garnish of green onions and lime. It's a very delicious soup during the summer on rainy days, especially in tropical areas. Flavor wise it'd be similar to a Tom-yum soup that is commonly found in most Thai restaurants

    Being from the same country and moving to the US at an older age I'll say this, I do love to eat crabs and other animals but i can understand that how it's made is brutal. However I ask that you respect what we have and keep in mind that Vietnam isn't like the U.S. or where ever, it's Vietnam* some people only have this to eat because they live near the coast. Just like other places like Africa or anywhere thats poverished they grind up insects and eat those because they don't have precious resources to make a lot of foods(yes Vietnam does that too) or even get their own food. Keep in mind this is a country that's been through a war roughly 30-40 years ago and has barely recovered thanks to the government. Also, they don't even have real milk in some areas, but instead powdered formula.

      The only barbaric part is taking the shell off the crab, but is that really any worse then boiling them alive? Im american and i love seeing what other countries eat and how its prepared.

    I adore Vietnamese food. I got addicted to it back in the early 90s from a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Tacoma Washington, in an Asian area of town. So excellent, the rice noodle soups, assorted curries. Pho was outstanding. Wish I could remember the name of the place, haven’t been back since I moved in 2005. Anyway, if you get a chance and haven’t yet experienced Viet food, do yourself a favor and try it next chance you get. For a 1st timer I’d recommend beef or chicken pho, Bun Cha and a side of Goi Cuon (fresh rice salad rolls, not the deep fried version)

    Wow, best recipe I have seen for small crabs! Does anyone know what the white liquid the chef added to the crab broth with tomatoes was? I thought for sure it was some sort of starch but it didn’t seem to thicken the broth. Amazing quality and simplicity I need to try this with my green crabs. Thank you for showing!

    Seems to be normal now to film some exotic foods being prepared in foreign countries, without putting any effort into it like naming the ingredients or telling why something is done. Then it goes on UA-cam with loooooots of ads and they make much money. Nice, but not my style.

      You seem not to be able to understand different points of views. I would like to see how foods are prepared in other cultures, but I think it cannot properly done without any comments in the video. And I think this is lazy. It's just a money machine for channels like you. You put not effort into it.

      Look, we know it's cruel how they are prepared alive but there is no other way, the same crabs come to the turtles and drag them to their wells where they have also done it, the truth is the only way to eat them or you prefer eat them already dead like the supermarket, those that have already died and do not let them suffer long time until they finally die of dehydration and lack of food, it is better to catch them and kill them at the moment to let them suffer a good😁😲😘

      Fresh is good, but kill it humanely. All animals can stress, and being pulled apart while alive will not make it taste any better. In fact it would be the opposite as stress produces natural toxins, and it's why stressed people never look healthy.

    I didn't knew you could eat these. When things were being put together, it looked really tasty. I'm wondering how it would taste if the crab meat was extracted perfectly by a machine somehow, then put together and pan fried with seasoning, before being put into the dish. I bet it would be heavenly, even though I never have eaten this crab meat.

    • @MaineGreenCrabs
      @MaineGreenCrabs Рік тому

      I work with similar crabs (green crabs) , how the meat (protein) is extracted in this process is the best way to do it and genius. No flavor or nutritional value of the mince is washed away. The broth is used as is the foam which is coagulated proteins extracted by crushing. I’m going to start using this process myself after seeing the efficiency. 💯

    It's kind of crazy watching this video. I actually didn't recognize the soup until the tomatoes went in and they pulled out the bowl with the rice noodles. If this is the dish I'm thinking about, it's actually really good, though mine usually had more spices in it (a little more red in color, which is why I only recognized it once the tomatoes went in)
