2 String Shredding Trick | Economy Picking VS Alternate Picking
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 лип 2024
- Today's topic is economy picking VS alternate picking in the context of 2 string shredding phrases! In this lesson I show you a little trick I came across in my practice sessions, this one allows me to play those popular licks quite fast without any real effort or challenge coming from the string switching or picking patterns. I'd love to hear if you have a completely different picking approach for these phrases, feel free to share it below! We also analyze the little practical example in detail and check out the music theory background of changing the V chord in natural minor to a major chord. Tabs, Guitar Pro file and practice backing tracks are online on / bernth

What I do for these is do an up pick for the 2 notes on the higher string.. Picking the first pulling up the second and down pick the note on the lower string... Maybe hard for some people but then it gets me to the metallica speed
@@Tridebeshs Hey, thanks for sharing that! I love hearing about different patterns and approaches for these licks, we all have our own ways of working with different phrases - the more approaches we are able to pull off the better, the patterns are often mixed together creatively and that's when we really need to think about every single stroke :)
@@Viking_guitarist I find thick picks to be really helpful when playing fast or sweeping. It's good for fast stuffs
Best teacher in YT I found. The massive knowledge can be applied to anything not just shredding guitar and the great implementation of theory makes me piece it up all together for a thorough understanding of what I'm playing. The theory actually goes hand to hand with the learning without overbearing and boring you with endless theory.
You're an amazing teacher. I'm annoyed that I've only just discovered your work - it's really refreshing to have a metal guitar tutor that emphasises the importance of harmony! 🤘
Your thoroughness and patience is what really attracted me to you, I am 60 yrs old and barely decided I wanted to learn to play 1 year ago, and you've been a great part of what I have learned, I will never play like you nor will I ever be a rockstar but I really enjoy it, thank you for being such a great teacher!
hi how is your guitar progress today man
@@inflexion7798 It's going bro thanks
I've gone through several different books, hundreds of videos about guitar playing and there are few that stood up to me but after i found your channel... Every single video is a gem and i have already gained a bit of speed and my 2-hand sync has improved a lot after spending some time with licks and routines in your videos. I bought your online course today which was a huge investment for me (even tho its really low price compared to any other way of learning guitar). Hands down your videos have been best for my playing and i cannot wait to start getting into course. Thank you so much!
Hey Bernth, just found your channel last week and subbed, wanted to say how unreal your lessons are. I’m so glad to see notes on the neck in your examples and not just fret 5 string 3 etc. I’m sure it takes a lot more effort to put the note names in each video. Really keen to get your course, when I’m up to that level. Thanks again, Pete
Hey Pete, thanks so much for the kind feedback - that makes me very happy :) Yes, it takes a lot of time to make them with the overlays and scrolling transcriptions but the feedback that they are helpig makes it all worth it!
Both of the picking styles sound extremely metal, and I'd argue that the economic picking styles sounds neo classical. It's lovely.
Thanks for another awesome lesson and exercise! I love things like this they really help unlock the fretboard more. The way you teach and explain it is simply perfect and very easy to understand. Some people you just can't thank enough and you're one of them Bernth!! :)
you are an excellent instructor. Many metal guys forget about the importance of scale theory, modal changes, and the musical background to what we are actually playing. You always mention these parts and present them in a platform easy to understand for new people. While I am an advanced player these technique videos have certainly helped me with just getting some fresh ideas. Bummed i just found u yesterday ha
Beautiful guitar, and great lesson thanks so much!
well-explained each lesson you've post :) so amazing!

Yesssss🔥🔥🔥
Very cool. Great exercise.
Buen video de leccion de guitarra con buenos ejercicios :)
I use a similar technique but with an up stroke on the pinky note on the G string followed by a pull off. Also if you add a 3rd note on the G string, when you play the pattern ascending then descending, the pick pattern starting from the D string note would look like- Down, Down, Up, Down, Up, pull off. It's tricky at first but you can get some good speed out of it and it's fairly accurate after a little practice. Its a great economy workout and a gate way to some interesting licks! Works well with the blues scale with root on one string (D for instance) and the 3rd, 4th and flat 5th on the other string (G in this case). If you play the root with the 3rd finger then the ^ pattern will make sense.
Nice tone man
Show essa aula.
Ficou top.
Thank for sharing it us.

joss/great... thanks :)
For stuff like this I generally switch between economy picking and hybrid picking (depending on what I’m doing and why)
Love from nepal

New subscriber 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🤟🤟🤟
You're a guitar god for sure.
Thank you for the kind comment Tony :)
Pas mal !
Hey your skills are too good ..i had never seen the talented guitarist like u.. I want to know that..is electric guitar needed for this excercise..i have acoustic one..can u please tell me plzz
Your a super guittarist.
I know this seems ridiculously obvious, but the way you play the very first beat with an upstroke on the first down beat, followed by a down stroke could just be continued all the way through…This leaves only one pull off on a weak beat, and the downbeat feels stronger with an up stroke every time(In this case an A at the 14th Fret). The pick is there anyways and with downward pick slanting easily escapes the D string for the next down stroke. Could be wrong but I believe that’s the way Malmsteen played it.
You have an hr giger ibanez. Kudos. Im jelly
German? Ur awesome first great Utube channel...
his homepage ends with at, so my guess is he is austrian.
👍👍🤟🎸
Maan awesome video ... this guitar is so sick where did you buy it
Thank you Alex, happy you enjoy the content! It's an Ibanez SHRG1Z, I was searching for this model for many years and finally found one last year on www.reverb.com in great condition :)
@@Bernthguitar ah tenks ... cantinue making awesome videos
👍👏🎸🇧🇷
What about directional picking? Tom Hess and some of the other teachers on here, said to use directional picking and not strict alternate or economy picking..What about this? Do you got some tabs for directional picking?
Also, dont we encourage to hold the pick how its comfortable, yet, being efficient to do it coinciding with ones own picking techniques for the most reliable outcome?
Dude what amp are you using? Your tone is amazing!!
Thank you very much Cameron! I mainly use my Kemper profiler for these videos :)
Bernth Brodträger Wow, it sounds like a real tube amp! Love your videos too man! 🤘
The fast past in tornado of souls solo, it is 2 string pattern but he I have no idea what the pick pattern is. It neither fits alt or Econ 🤷♂️
Any advice on songwriting?
Greatvideo but the alternate pickng pattern has less pull-off's and hammer-on's, which u implement in the economy picking pattern... :)
Hello Andrew! Exactly, that is one of the main points explained in the video - this approach requires a different distribution of the strokes, we want a sweeping motion for the second example and need to work with more legato notes to make that possible :)
Hallo bernth
Wich pedal are you using in this video?
There are a lot of good players with tutorials on UA-cam, but only one possess the almighty rghrgz
In the alt picking exercise, why do you pick DUD DUD DUD DUD? shouldn't it be DUD UDU DUD UDU?
If I actually think about picking on 2 or more strings I'll mess up but say. If I stop thinking about it I can do it it's weird lol. Muscle memory I guess.
Mr. Bernth, what happens when one is on the way with their career and then severed the all important pinky tendons but is still able to play after physical therapy.
Sound like Flamenco xDD
the chord progression... and his name is JOHN CENA
You make it look too easy. Trying this on the bass. I need longer fingers on a younger hand.
Does the minor chord become a Sus2 when you replace the minor 3rd to a major 2nd?
Hey Juan - suspended or 'sus' chords are created by replacing the third (major or minor, works for both of course) with a major second for sus2 and perfect fourth for sus4! Since these chords lack the tonality of major or minor you have many possibilities for using them in your compositions :) So yes, this is the concept behind these voicings!
@@Bernthguitar thanks, this is the first video of yours I've seen and subbed. You put alot of care into your videos to make sure the viewers are learning as they watch your videos. You are doing an amazing job, one of the best I've come across on UA-cam. I like the lay out, diagrams, explanations, and your teaching style in the video.
i like your lessons, but too hard for me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same
Go Go Power Rangers
100% Non-Shred bec. of the pulloffs & hammerons. Pure alternate shred picking has a distinct metal sound contrary to legato.
Tricking is not smart or skillfull in my opinion.
Hello and thanks for the comment! I featured alternate picking in great detail over the last months on here, even above 300bpm a while ago for 3 note per string phrases - to completely ignore the economy picking approach and reduce it to a 'shortcut' is not the best mindset in my opinion since it will offer very exciting ideas for your playing in general :) I recommend mastering both approaches. But to each his/her own, I totally get the preference in sound at least!
it is sad to say that to disregard techniques as cheating. guitar players aren't piano players who use their 10 fingers to shred. but to each his own. I believe the virtuosos out there employ their techniques where the song served it, while sometimes creatively improvising. certain virtuosos also used techniques extensively which ultimately becomes their character.
There's no such thing as cheating in guitar technique. You use all tools in your bag to be able to play what you want.
Very good
