- In this episode I am joined the landowner as we walk through the woods in search of these hardy people, where they lived and died. It takes both Storytelling and Metal Detecting to uncover their stories, their work of the land, and who they were. Are we looking for treasure in the ground only? The road to discovery and treasure takes many forms?

Oh, Todd, what an awesome tour. I felt like I was with you and Gary the entire time. My son, this is what it is all about. If you failed to do this walk through with Gary, each relic would have been just a piece of old metal. Now when you make a find, it will be personal as you first touch it. Just think of the blood, sweat and tears that went into making that wilderness a farm and a home. Think about the sorrow of putting a one month old and a 11 year old in the grave. Probably wasn't a doctor within miles that could have helped them, and if it was, could they have paid him. It was a tough life, but also a good life.

Hey Tom thanks again for the comment and being a Patron. I correct myself in Part 2 of this video...I looked at the dates wrong in this video. The child was 37 days old and the toddler was 2 years old, not 11. I also found the cemetery roll, and it looks like the entire family is buried here. After them, the place ceased operations as a habitable farm.

Hello my friend. I remember walking in the woods with my grandma collecting wild greens. Running through the woods as a boy and finding the same things. I wish I could do that now. I would love you to come to Amherst county Va and check out the area around Little Irish creek. A whole community was lost.... supposedly to Indian attack during the French and Indian wars. Plenty of low rock walls and foundations remain widely spead out, and an old mine site.

This was so interesting! What a beautiful part of the world, although when I heard about the timber rattlers, I was ready to turn tail and run.
Yep good idea...we have a lot of them here. I see them all the time and in these rocky places I just cant imagine sticking my hand down in them to recover a relic.

my grandmother had 3 big barns with those old az marks and other out buildings for chickens pigs and tool shed back then they had general farms and raised just about everything primary a dairy farm

Man it is a shame that thy graded around that old house . Todd Coltsfoot is good for a few things it is good for Reducing inflammation, Strengthening the immune system and killing bacteria, skin problems like wounds, ulcers, and eczema and really good for respiratory conditions like cough, bronchitis, asthma, influenza, and lung congestion.
I thought the same. Why detecting is so important before it’s all lost.

we would get stone from a field to be planted dragging a stone boat in those days it would of been like a wooden door but we used old car hoods
Car doors is a great idea because it is smooth and less friction than wood sleds....thank God for Tractor's and Bobcats....LOL

we used to catch brook trout out of small steams we called brooks
You know I think we call them Brooks too...some folks call them tributaries, but many of the old timers I chat with all comment about the water table dropping and the drying streams. One such stream an old guy told me they used to canoe down it...and even kayak but now it is dry most all year around. The trout are disappearing.
Of all the items or relics that you find , what is your favorite
My most exciting most meaningful item I have ever found was the 1839 Half Dime I found with my son in our yard after our house fire. It’s also my most meaningful video. Thanks for asking!
