People looking for a solution you need to put the phone in developer mode by going to settings -> About Phone -> software information -> Tab build number 7 times to activate developer mode. Hit back twice to get back into settings. You will now see a developer mode option on the last option in settings developer options. Tap developer options then tap stay awake. When the phone is charging and plugged in the screen will stay on during a call and not turn off so when you are calling a help center on speaker and need to enter options and want the screen to stay on it will. This was annoying me so badly. When you don't need it just go back to developer options and turn off stay awake. Enjoy.

should be no need to go into all of that when ages back these smartphones HAD a settings option to tweak this. Doesn't exist now. I just invested in a spanking pair of earpods so my parties could hear me as the screen blackout is tank.

OK, I've had this phone for 16 months and finally got tired of the screen going black while on a call. The option "Keep screen on while viewing" was already enabled, but here's the thing... I've only ever used the back camera. Switching to the front facing camera fixed the issue.
Pretty God damn lame that the only option to make my screen stay on while im on a phone call is to allow facial recognition. That is incredibly intrusive. I don't comprehend how that it legal. Samsung is evil as hell
Currently had this issue. Removed screen protector & it’s all working!! The screen protector blocks the sensor!!! Check your phone cases and protectors.
You are not disclosing all the necessary information needed in order to prevent blackening of screen. I've paused your video and I can clearly see in addition to 'keep screen on while viewing' which means if you're not looking at the screen - it will BLACK-OUT but you also have 'Double tap to turn off screen' ON. In addition 'Double tap to turn screen off' is also Activated. And lastly you probably have included Option 'Lift to wake' ON. Therefore, unless these FOUR features are turned on there will still be some degree of Blackening! Hence, there is no need to perform a Reset. You simply failed to disclose all necessary information to prevent screen blackening.
Doesn't exist on my Samsung Galaxy A32 5G. I've looked at every setting and NONE exist to keep the screen on while on a call. This is STUPID and extremely aggravating, SAMSUNG!
did you ever find a solution? i have s21 i need to phone screen on, while on speaker. so i can record the screen itself with my ipad mini6. but i want the screen on to show the contact info and number of person i am speaking with. i am recording calls legally asking for permission, but it messes everything up when the screen turns black in a few seconds.
I have not. The S21 are slightly older models that still receive updates. But the former solutions to removing the useless black dot at the top, and keeping the screen on during calls have since gone dross. So irritating. Tried reaching out to both Samsung and my carrier (Tmobile) about it - and each points the finger 😡@@henlohenlo689
it doesn't work for me. As I always say SAMSUNG is one sucking phone with all these unnecessary useless features which basically clutter the phone. What SAMSUNG should do is just give the phone with basic features without all their useless apps. Just keep all their apps like samsung health, samsmung calendar, samsung etc...etc in the cloud and let the user choose what they wanted to download. Many of these useless apps cannot be uninstalled totally. Yeah Samsung can say that those apps can be disabled if not needed. But why can't samsung provide the feature to uninstall those in-built apps that are not of any use to the user?

This ONLY works when charging, so it does not fix the problem of shutting off constantly when talking !!
