Just got mine today. I really do love it. For the money you cannot beat this knife. It’s bigger than I thought it would be. I bought the recon, one micro and I absolutely love it. I used to be a steel snob, but not anymore. Sharp? Razor razor razor Sharp.
My favourite solid daily edc , incredibly strong , lightweight , concealed, same as my sak and my wallet length , i had it for more than a year, used it daily, i did not need to hon it .. just strop it on my belt to get it razor sharp.. my tanto version give me an extra use as a chisel .. i really like coldsteel knives
..and it's made by the same factory. i had a 20.5 (actually 2) and i was nothing but disappointed. both had really ugly grinds, one looked almost like it had a recurve and both had vertical blade play that wasn't fixable. also the scales felt very cheap.
A good solid work knife and the price really makes it a great option. Would love to have seen it in s35vn as an option like the full size. The thing about cold steel that I like is that they do a good job on the heat treat no matter the steel. Keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
@@yudazeng that is why I said that I "would loved to have seen it in S35VN as an option like the full size" the original Recon 1 is in S35VN compared to the AUS10 in the mini. AUS10 is a good steel it's just that S35VN, while it would have cost more, is a better overall steel in my opinion.
@@toddcarr. you are right, but I think I don't need best still in my edc knife,The main practical edc knife on the market is most suitable for mini recon.
@@yudazeng I agree wholeheartedly. I love my Cold Steel knives in other steels such as my 4Max Scout in AUS10, or my SR1 Lite in 8CR13, and they do a great job on the heat treat of the steels they use. My point it's that for those who want it, it's great having the option of a better steel at a higher price point in this case S35VN which has better edge retention than those more budget friendy steels or like 3V which is known for its toughness. I like seeing this from other manufacturers as well who release products in a budget and premium version of the same design. Let's me get a great knife at a price I can afford or if I have more money I can buy something that has better materials. Hope you have a great day.
@@toddcarr. just like CRKT minimalist, it uses 8cr13mov, But its excellent design still makes me think it is the most suitable knife for edc. I think etc knife most important is Compact and reliable. just like me, I like put the flashlight and minirecon in my pocket, and I well put a same configuration in my PSK bag and put it in my backpack. my mother tongue is not English,Forgive me if I didn't make myself clear. hope you has a good day too
I’ve got a recon 1 mini it’s a great versatile knife and does what it says on the tin!! Great channel. Also have a AD10 and that such a great knife too.
I love cold steel. I find it funny you will read comments of China cheap knives. And junk. Cheap over seas knives. Here is cold steel. Taiwan made lol. Love the silence they get. Top notch blades. Great prices. What else do you want.
I do really like aus10a as a daily user steel, but the cost to materials ratio when compared to the full sized recon 1 in s35vn just doesnt make this knife worth it to me. If they do one in s35vn for another 20 bucks, I'd grab that in a second, because I do prefer this size as an edc.
I have a full recon 1, and I would take it camping or whatever...really like it, but have never used it for more than ripping up boxes. My EDC is a delica, but I'm eyeing this one up.
Mine was that way too, just push the lock into the handle and hold it for several hours like this: www.bladeforums.com/threads/ideas-for-a-new-edc.1603675/#post-18314588 I used multigrips to hold mine with a cloth over the jaws to avoid scratches. It helps to take the knife apart after and clean/lube the bushings, pivots, lockface, etc You could also just manually bend the lock spring bar slightly with pliers to save time. It is spring steel, so can always bend it back if you make it too loose.
@@B3D_FPV great idea. I think that will loosen it up enough to make it easier to use. I don't mind rolling out the blade, but it would be nice to have it not quite so tight.
Would have loved to have seen the the recon line of knives with the new Demko shark lock . But that's never going to happen now for obvious reasons . Would have been cool though
How good would this knife be in cts xhp. I don't mind aus10a or s35, but xhp is such a great steel. It's a shame they can't get it in quantities anymore. I'll still probably snag one of these. Classic
I hope demko picks up the slack, and takes the opportunity to make his brand the new cold steel, because cold steel really seems like a different brand now. Such a shame.
I’ve never heard of this site until I saw your comment. Anyway I went to check it out and it seems like they only have knives $50 and under. Am I doing something wrong or is that really all they carry?
Seems like a really nice little EDC for the money. Tri-ads seemingly have some lock stick, pay for the solid lockup. The Boye (I think) dent is there to keep you from accidentally breaking the lock by accidentally pushing on it. On his site, it says that the dent is for “preventing accidental disengagement of the blade when the handle is gripped tightly.”
Yeah it stops you from squeezing it but it's also more comfortable to disengage, some have slight stick because they are made to always get stronger lockup over time, and that's why it's such a strong lock because even with pressure on the spine the lock is only getting stronger

Thanks for the review. I wanted to see it in hand. I always watch your vids start to end.
👊 your awesome Beez thank you
I like it. I would actually prefer this to the AD20.5. Especially at less than half price.

when i started collecting i wasn't a fan of bowie blades but now it is my favorite or at least right there with wharncliff's.
Recon is a great series of knives.
You’ve become my favorite reviewer…thanks for making thorough videos that cover every aspect of a knife that I also find important.
👊thank you for watching and commenting
Aus 10a is great steel, love the size of the mini, quick slip in pocket...good review buddy

Boye dent! Great vid as always.
Yes 😆 I always forget the damn name of it thank you!!
I like all of my Cold Steels. I don't have anything on their crazy side, but what I do have is great. Good review sir! ✌️

Do you know if the back lock button mechanism is aluminum or stainless steel thank you very much
I have the Cold Steel Micro Recon 1 spear point knife. Have recently ordered the Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 Clip point knife from Amazon.
Nice video. I hesitate between this one and the Air Lite for my edc..which one do you prefer?
Air lite

I carry the Recon 1 as a reservist for my deployments and carry the mini recon as civilian for my EDC.
Gteat choices! I think my favorite cs is the code 4

Yours opens MUCH easier than mine. The lock bar is putting so much force against the blade on mine that it has to be rolled out.

I loved your coverage of the handle - too small. I'm getting Recon 1 Lg.

Yeah they did sell the company, i think Demko is going his own way which i believe will do great
