First Day in Honolulu HAWAII Travel Vlog! Flying Hawaiian Airlines, Tasty Poke Bowl & Marugame Udon!
At the beginning, we looked at the cost of everything and said oh it is expensive but after a few years you'll get used to the high cost of living here on oahu. It is what it is ,we can always move back to where you're from 🤙
The scenery is gorgeous. I've never been to Hawaii but it's on my bucket list.
Oh no! Cheesecake factory can be so good with the right dishes! I love Chicken Madeira and their pasta dishes. Calamari is also good. I honestly wouldn't do the Asian dishes there. For cheesecake, the basic one with strawberry is my fav. Hope you get to try it again in the future! Unfortunately, that price is pretty typical here. I guess one upside with cheesecake factory is that the portions are usually pretty huge and one dish can usually feed 2 ppl. We usually tip 20% dining in and nothing for takeout unless someone was extremely helpful
ahh thanks for the recs on Cheesecake Factory! I might give it another go next time :)
and thanks for the tips on tipping!
Cheesecake Factory is expensive especially in tourist areas. Most just go for the cheesecake , not the food. Ala Moana food court is less expensive and more choices with variety. Also Chinatown but better to go in morning or early afternoon. At night it is sketchy. Go to Haunama bay. Like swimming in an aquarium with multi colored fish all around. Also go to Polynesian cultural center for authentic exhibits and luau at night. Sales office in mall in Waikiki with shuttle there and back. Have fun.
Hi Janice. Another nice vid, thanks. Just in Maui now. Prices are tres cher but it is an island, and tipping in the US is out of control…won’t get into it, but should just roll it into the prices and pay staff. Lovely people, sun, beaches and fauna. Food is ok. As you’ve noted, too much sauce (and aggressive seasoning) at most places. We prefer more subtle to allow the ingredients shine through rather than hiding them.
The US is a tipping culture. You can customize your tip to the amount you want instead of the shown amounts. Normally 18 to 20% average tip for good service. Cheese Cake Factory is a little higher priced but everywhere prices have increased since the pandemic. Small stuff like coffee or take away I think is optional but nice to leave something.
Loving this vid. First time in Hawaii this coming September and we have a house on Kailua Beach - but will also head to Lanakai
The cheesecakes and cakes look yummy at the cheesecake factory ..I heard the pastas are nice and so was egg rolls & the Mac and cheese balls ..That view was stunning ..Enjoying the Hawaii vlogs ..x❤️🥰💕
thanks so much Irena!
Nawww brings back so many good mems of my babymoon, a few weeks before you went! I love the vanilla bean cheesecake. ❤
Nice! Any other places you really liked in Honolulu?
@@JaniceFung pig and the lady and Obake downtown 😍
You don’t have to tip on takeaway coffee, but I usually tip $1. Also tipping culture is getting way out of hand in the US.
I remember having the Cobb salad, carbonara pasta and buffalo wings at the cheese cake factory. They were good!
okay - noted for if I go again next time! thank you :)
Can't say about the tipping in USA but we also tip in Canada and the payment terminals generally offers 15%, 18%, 20% or other. To me $100 for a dinner is a lot but hey, nowadays, you buy two McDonald trios and is it $50... Carzy! I like much better the system in Australia where you don't tip at all, everything is included in the price.
I have fond memories of the wild mushroom soup at the Cheesecake Factory.
Hawaii is so beautiful! I'm an American but I've lived in Asia for the past eight years. Hawaii is this really strange, surreal mashup of America and Asia. And I remember that line at Cheesecake Factory. I thought it was odd, as well.
You probably would have been better off going to Duke's instead and then getting takeaway cheesecake from the Factory.
Yeah takeaway cheesecake is definitely what I'll do next time!
Pay for your food with card but tip with cash to avoid the awkward iPad encounter. Then when paying tip with cash just leave a few dollars and then leave the establishment very quickly
haha the awkward iPad encounter is a real thing 😂
Love the Cheesecake Factory in Pennsylvania!
Janice, you must try Plate Lunch. Any of the many places that serve it. One suggestion Rainbow Drive In. Go to Leonards for Malasatas. For a good Japanese dinner go to Sasabune, you need to make reservation for the omakase.
Have fun there.
I have left Hawaii already, but will keep this in mind for next time I visit, because im definitely go back again ☺️
Oh I love the red velvet cheesecake there; red velvet cake with layers of cheesecake filling. It’s delicious. Wow that is pricey, the exchange rate doesn’t help though. Helps that the servings are huge though.
Yeah I thought sydney was expensive, but hawaii was another level!
Hi Janice, That cheesecake looked yummy 😂👍
Cheese cake was good! But the chicken and prawn one.. not so much lol
@@JaniceFung you can tell 😂
8:44 45mins is quick ..Lol .. the night we went was over an hour and half wait .. We didn’t wait , we went to P F Changs and only a 20min wait.. We did go for brunch to the CCF the next day around 11am , no waiting !
You should go to Aloha Kitchen for breakfast. You would love it.
Thank you for a great video. I agree with you; Cheesecake factory meal was expensive. Our experience there in the east coast is similar (i.e., not worth the money).
Hello Janice in the Hawaii cheesecake monkey Bowl wow yummy 😋 good tasty 😋
Love peanut butter so loved the monkey bowl!
Hi Janice! I have never been to The Cheesecake Factory; one reason is…(according to my friends that’s been there), the prices are too high and the portions have gotten smaller. I would tip for a sit down meal and tip according to how the service was and the attitude of the waiter/waitress; but never for takeout.
thanks for the tip Sally!
Do a stadium food tour of World Cup
Your slip should have made the "bloopers" at the end 😋
It wasn’t on camera haha
Janice, four seasons hotel Hawaii maybe a full experience
Hawaii is the most expensive for food. Maybe Alaska may compete with the expensive food. Mainland Americans cannot imagine how expensive Hawaii is.
I want to go to Hawaii! Not for a $12 slice of cheesecake though :Þ
If I'm sitting down for a meal, I tip 15%-20% depending on service and experience. Takeaway, usually no tip- if I pay cash, sometimes I put all the loose coins in tip.
My husband and I split a meal last time...very economical. I generally take half of my meal home anyway!
yeah I found the portions to be bigger than what we get in Sydney so definitely ok to split between 2!
Hey Janice, when / which month did u go on this trip? The weather looks cold.
Don't be intimidated when asked to tip on a tablet. You didn't need to select 22%. I think that is way too much even in SF, let alone Hawaii. But yes, US prices are getting so ridiculous.
Fav Cheesecake items:
1. Avocado eggrolls
2. Chinese chicken salad
3. Pasta Da Vinci
4. Red velvet cheesecake
thanks for the recs on things to order!
Good video
thanks for watching!
Thank god, the wind didn't blew her food away
always interesting and entertaining , wow that seeded a lot of money for what you had . great views
cheers Michael !
Don’t tip for takeaway and yes eating out in Los Angeles is pretty expensive.
HI Janice, yes it is normal to spend that much on a meal. Take away coffee you do not need to tip.
cheers Anthony!
Snorkel in Hanauma Bay. Check it out.
Lanikai Beach is better and an easy bus ride to get there ! Hanauma Bay is a hassle with the online booking , it’s only open 5 days a week if you get a booking and no public transport takes you there.
Never heard of a monkey bowl I want that NOW
It’s pretty good if you love peanut butter!
Welcome to the United States.. Hawaiian Style 😄🌴🏖
Cheesecake Factory is pricey and that amount you paid is normal, food is okay but I would suggest going to a local restaurant instead.
What?!?! You're in Oahu?!?! I missed you by a few months
Yeah was there for a bit over a week!
Because Hawaii is an island group, everything is expensive. Same in Bermuda.
The Cheesecake Factory is great for cheesecake, but that’s about it.
We waited ages to get into The Cheesecake Factory on Kalakaua but wow it was worth it just for dessert.
Yeah the cheesecake was decent! But I found the hot food a bit disappointing when I went :( what else did you guys order ?
@@JaniceFung Agree. We went a few times. For memory I got a pasta one time and a hamburger the other. The cheesecakes/desserts we really enjoyed. All with ice cream and cream.
those bikkies ran out on their own
Cheesecake is expensive everywhere in the world.
Hope ya'll climbed Diamond Head while you were there. Cheesecake Factory is overhyped imo, but the cheesecakes are pretty good. Hawaii is 10% to 20% more expensive than the mainland because of shipping. Tipping in the US is getting controversial because it's getting out of control. If your getting takeaway anything, no tip is nessecary; though these days an extra couple bucks is becoming the norm. Hope you got to try some Kalua pork and Poi while you were there too 🙋
yeah I did climb diamond head and did manage to get some kalua pork ☺️
Hawaii is more expensive than the rest of the US. Everything has to be shipped in on a boat or plane. Plus, the vacation/natural beauty aspect adds a premium expense to some experiences, like restaurants, hotels, etc. That $70 bill for a dinner for 2 at the Cheesecake Factory (in Hawaii) is about par for the course in the mainland US at a similar restaurant. Tips at sit down restaurants should be at least 20% unless you’re service was awful. Then you can start bringing down that %. My grandfather used to leave a penny if the service was absolutely awful just to let the server know he didn’t forget a tip…haha. (He was old school…haha.) I don’t recommend being like my grandfather in that respect. 😊 If it is exceptional service, more than 20% is a nice thing to do.
Also, thanks for sharing your adventures. So sorry the Cheesecake Factory ran out of everything…haha. What a shame! You should go again some other time. Maybe earlier in the day?…Peace and love Janice.
Oh, and on the tipping thing again- I’m not sure if it is like this in Australia, but servers and some other restaurant staff get paid a lower minimum wage than others here. They make the majority of their money off those tips. So, keep that in mind whenever at a sit down down restaurant where someone comes to your table, takes your order, and brings you your food. Normally, they are super friendly and attentive because they are working for a big tip mostly. The restaurant may pay them as low as $2.50 USD/hour to work. So if you eat in 1 hour- the restaurant is only paying your server $2.50 USD for that service. It’s weird and shitty, but the truth.
Not a huge fan of cheesecake which makes it tricky to recommend ... I was so surprised when I first encountered spam in Hawaiian food but they certainly love it
Takeaway coffee - never tip
Only dine in and the food delivery guy
22%???
11:34 Tipping there - We asked our server at the Cheesecake Factory do you get the entire tip ? He said no , it’s broken up.The kitchen gets 2% then 1% goes to other and 1/2% goes to other then he gets the rest.. If you noticed when you get to put your name down , the person eat the desk does that , then a different person will take you to your table , then a server takes your food and drink order , then a different person brings your food.. That’s why you Tip.. We said to our server , if you were in Australia, you would do all them jobs and no tip.. So I guess there wages are terrible.
Yup, Australians get paid well which is why there isn’t a tip. American waiters get about $2.50 an hour. They depend on tips.
Wtf... Chinese chicken salad on da menu.... 😮
When did the chicken turn into a Chinese
To an American $68 all inclusive for a meal for two is normal. But to an Australian, with our shitty exchange rate, it's a bit pricey.
yeah, the exchange rate definitely didnt help
break some coins to lick some cheese. drop the chow down and run around it after.
Nah... won't eat at Cheesecake Factory. Thanks for the show
I feel like youre hitting up all the tourist food spots. Which is normal, but please contact me the next time you come here. My wife and I always look out for others for the best hikes and food🤙😋🚶♂️
what are some of you guys' fave food spots and hikes??
Cheesecake Factory is one great big tourist trap. It is all frozen rubbish. I will be going back to Hawaii in Oct this will be my 16th time and every time I avoid this place like the plague. $68 call the police you got robbed. Waikiki is very expensive which is why I don't eat or buy anything there I go down town.
I’m glad you’re having a good time in Hawaii, but I think we have far better food in Sydney… as your channel has demonstrated time and again.
Cheese cake factory is over priced, the food is just ok and the cheese cake is also just ok but mainly over priced.
My advice re: Cheesecake Factory, just don't wait in line for their food. You can expect Hawaii's 7-Eleven to be better than mainland. But there is no "better" version of Cheesecake Factory. I'm sorry you had such a long wait for such a mediocre American restaurant (and that's saying a lot), and the biggest red flag is that they're out of certain items on the menu. That's just bad service by American standards. I get it if you're a high end, non-corporate run establishment (e.g., mom and pop been running things on their own for 40 years), you can be excused for running out of product, produce, daily catch, but CF is a corporate entity. Their food is shit so if they run out of shit, that's even more shit than one needs. Sorry for the swearing but I want foreigners to understand that the use of Cheesecake Factory in sitcoms is a joke amongst TV sitcom writers. It's bougie bad diner food.
Hey Janice - Love your videos! I very seldom go to Cheesecake factory, and you touched on the 2 reasons why - the food isn't that good, and it's way overpriced. $70 for a basic dinner? I pass, there are better dining options at small family owned, non-chain restaurants. Tipping on takeout is something I very rarely do, as the workers there didn't really serve me (take my order, bring my food, clear my plate, ask if I need anything). I will tip if they're exceptionally helpful, or super friendly and cheerful, but then only a small tip, not 22%. Keep up the great work, love watching your vids.
Nothing in Hawaii except a Cafe - cheesecake factory. Whole island is one big tourist trap
Oahu is not all just a tourist trap. Just all the food shown here were in Waikiki which is where all the tourists are.
The tipping culture is getting ridiculous! Last time, my dog got groomed for $68, so I handed the lady a $100 bill… she took the whole thing and said “thanks for the tip” … ok 🥲 and you don’t need to tip for takeout, also tipping percentage is based on the number of people/size of your party.
