A Swedish tourist coming to Hawaii exclaimed, "I am so happy to be in Havaii". A Hawaiian next to her said, "Thank you for pronouncing Hawaii properly". She replied, "you velcome".
🤣🤣🤣
well because we appreciate when effort is being given and when torusits are not ignorant etc (not all toursits are bad tho some are really wholesome) also I hope you learn about our history here from a local here :)
This joke is funny 😆
What if Brett Favre lived in Hawaii?
I heard this joke back in the 1960s when I lived in Hawaii!
Ha-leh-ee-vah is the correct pronunciation of Haleiwa. When the letter “W” is place in between two vowels it pronounces letter “V” just so you know. :)
Thanks for letting me know!!!
It’s ok. Our language is cool 😎
Hawaii or havaii. Don’t matter.
Enjoy and thx for supporting our state.
Mahalo and aloha 👍🤙🏽🌈😎
Honeysuckle
🤙🏽😎🌈
80jennny 😂
Don’t eat poi. Junk. Yuck. Leave it alone. Purple not ur color anyway
I just love your positive attitude...you always have something good to say ! A lot of people go to Hawaii and mock our food and culture...thank you so much for showing beautiful Hawaii in a great light!
Omg erisy is so adorable! Such a good girl eating with a spoon lol so cute. Thanks for all the tips! Gonna take all these into account going next year. THANKS DZUNG!
Yay more of your travel food series, love this!
@ 6:23 it must have been good. That momentary freeze to emotionally process what was just eaten was priceless. My father and son and others have visited Hawaii. Now I've just have to go. Thanks for the tour.
Andre Bell haha 😆
Because of your videos, I’m going to visit 3 of those places this weekend! I’m so excited!! Thank you
Places you missed was Shiro’s Saimin Haven in Waimalu, Zippy’s Restaurant in Waimalu (while your there a snack shop is there I cannot remember the name, but they have local snacks. I love the dried lemon! Got to check out the snack shop), Helena’s Hawaiian Food in Kalihi, The Pastele Shop in Kalihi, Nam Fong’s (best shoyu chicken and roast pork!) in China Town, Libby’s Manapua Shop in Kalihi (manapua awesome and dim sum even better!), Fresh Catch Seafood in Kaimuki, Willows Restaurant (major history there) in Honolulu, Haleiwa Joes in North Shore, and believe it or not Macy’s at Pearlridge Shopping Center (LOVE LOVE their baked spagetti!). So many places to try! Got to stay 3 weeks to catch them all! LOL
Sharon P. - The Willows closed. 😢
Plus anything topped with Li Hing Mui! Especially pineapple 😋
Why would you send a tourist to Kalihi? lol
Shannon P - Baldwin’s Sweet Shop!
They got Zippys all over the Dang place! Lol, & manapua trucks come around like the ice cream man!
ALOHA🌺 Zippy’s is a local grind, Rainbow Drive-In for Loco Moco. Matsumoto Shave Ice 💘 in Haleiwa (w pronounced v, like eva)✌🏼Food Land Market for inexpensive poke bowl w/rice & cute reusable bags that I like to pick up & give as gifts to my loved ones. Magnolia ice cream for Halo Halo & ice cream, Ala Moana Center so many good eats there Cookie Corner, Big Island Candies has yummy shortbread cookies & chocolates💘
Thank you for the great information...super travel piece you put together.
That was so relaxing for me i am glad you gave me a small mental vacation, loved it.
I was born and raised on Oahu and just moved away in November. I miss my POI and POKE 😥 Tanioka’s is awesome, but for great poke you should try Ahi & Vegetable (locations in Kalihi, Ala Moana Shopping Center, and Downtown Honolulu) and Aloha Poke Shoppe (Downtown Honolulu). Chun Wah Kam, Island Manapua Factory, Royal Kitchen, and Char Hung Sut are also great for dim sum. 👍🏻 Wish the weather was better while you were there! Oh, and Mitch’s by the airport for AWESOME SUSHI!!
Thanks for sharing this video, the foods looks amazing👌
Was that cold? My family went there last winter and loved everything about Hawaii. Miss it so much.
So nice to see Hawaii again.
I'm gonna add the poi factory to my list when we go back home to Oahu, cause I was drooling watching you. Not to mention my excitement when you ate the "sweet lady waihole" which was probably warm kulolo covered with vanilla ice cream. Thanks for sharing!!
Hey! Just started watching your videos recently! Poke is mispronounced in this video. Though people say Poke-ii it is actually pronounced Poke-eh. Just wanted to let ya know! Thank you for featuring my home!
Haole way with the long vowels 🤣
My favorite way to eat poi is to mix it with lomi salmon & poke... and squid luau on the side!
Never heard of the food you ate but everything looks so good, such a beautiful place also, thanks for sharing.
I’m going to Aulani in April so this video’s timing couldn’t be more perfect! Thanks for sharing ❤️
That’s a nice place. Faraway from everything. Plan your travel time and avoid traffic. Have breakfast and enjoy the beach then sightseeing will be alright
beautiful well-made video! sending love from oahu ❤️
Wow, Hawaii as known as the Paradise Island! It's so beautiful and relaxing place here, maybe someday I should go there and explore. Lovely video! 🌸Aloha!🌸
Omg. I am crying while watching this right now. Miss HI badly and hope we all can go there again soon!
Great video! Loved your positive vibes and constant smile. Also respected your mentioning the less than stellar service you received at one of the restaurants. Made your review seem all the more real and believable.
Good video for future foodie tourists thx dzung
The poke nachos at The Pantation Tavern in Kapolei. They are to die for!! Seriously, you won't regret it, one of the best things I've eaten in my entire life. 😀😀😀
Plantation*
The dessert you ate at the Waiahole poi factory is kulolo along with the ice cream. Delicious all on its own!
yummmmmm ill have to go back there to try all those amazing places!!!!
This makes me miss hawaii lol I want to go back 🌴🌺🌊 and yaaaay I gave a thumbs up 👍🏻
This video brings me back to my last trip to Oahu :) Definitely saving this for ideas for my next trip!
It looks so stunning there!!
very informative. Thanks a lot. My son loves cooking and I'm currently teaching him English. I hope one day he can travel around the world.
Poi is supposed to be sort of a palate cleanser. It’s used to balance the salt in pork, which is why there is little flavor. 🙂
Much like rice and potatoes
and ulu
🤢
Enjoyed watching your video. Oh... those cold windy days...
Love your travel food series!
Loved your video, such beautiful cinematography and great editing, good incidental music.
Next time you are downtown Honolulu try Goofy’s (between the Hilton and Aqua Palms hotels) for breakfast. Best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had.
Great vid...I loved it..it was like a sbow!
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I should go out and explore my home more often. I see all these great places to eat on other people's UA-cam channels and I never go. I appreciate the suggestions in the comments, too. Poi is great for kids, btw because it's easy to digest. Sorry about the weather. That was a crazy week. If you love sushi, try Sasabune. It's omakase (leave choices to the chef). It's not very kid friendly, and expensive, but you won't find better sushi. I'm loving the spicy Thai broth at Hot Pot Heaven in Kapolei. Banzai sushi in Haleiwa has amazing hamachikama. Piggy Smalls in Ward has good Vietnamese fusion cuisine. Across the street at South Shore market is Scratch Kitchen & Meatery. Kilani bakery in Wahiawa for brownies and chantilly cake. Liliha bakery for local grinds, coco puffs, and poi mochi donuts that look like teething rings but are oh, so yummy!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏼 thanks for sharing!!
I went to Hawaii in 2014 ish? There used to be a International Market on Waikiki. I was just a simple outdoor foodcourt, but man was the food delicious!!! There was a local seafood stall, Korean place, Chinese, Japanese...But had a Hawaiian twist to all of them. Food was affordable too! I went back a few years later, and unfortunately they've tore down the market. They were building some fancy store to replace it. Also, that loco moco looks INCREDIBLE! I'll have to try it some day.
I’m a member of that temple and can’t wait to visit the Oahu location. Thank you for sharing! Nam myo ho renge kyo
I’m going to hawaii next week!!! i’m so excited to go to some of these places!!!
So jealous!! Have fun
I went to oahu last November. It was amazing. Eggs and things had delicious brunch with piles of whip cream bigger than ur head & Francis Ford Coppola wines. Oddly enough my sister and I loved thier chicken wings the most. There was a spot we went to that had garlic lobster too: it was just split down the middle and COVERED with a butter sauce that had huge chunks of garlic in it. There was also a vegan spot we tried that was phenomenal: matcha teas & lentil bowls ❤️
Thank you for sharing! I’m going to Kaui and Maui next month! I can’t wait 😊
@Silvia Hoard Grand Hyatt in Kauai near Poipu and the Westin Resort and Spa Kaanapali in Maui
@Silvia Hoard the beds in all hotels feel the same to me, but you can request extra blankets, pillows, etc. I stayed at the Disney Aulani Resort in Oahu. That resort has the best hotel food. Also, there is a plaza across from there with sushi, monkey pod, coffee shop and other places.
i am happy you went to tanioka's :) i love it there
So happy to see you visited my Home of the Oahu
everyone talks about tanioka's but they are overpriced and not as good places like foodland or even times supermarket, glad that she called out the service at koko head cafe, so many places here in hawaii the service and quality of food has gone down , but it is sometimes understandable because Hawaii is a good place to visit but an expensive place to live, BTW to all those planning to visit, please lock your doors and don't leave any valuables out in the open in your cars, we want you to enjoy your visit and not be a victim of the few bad apples out here, not trying to scare you, just being honest.
Papa Poi by “a few bad apples” it’s all the homeless crackhead haole scum plaguing the islands. Almost got in a fight 2 days ago and was interview on KHON at how bad the rotting garbage at Diamond Head beach park has gotten. Forget even going to the Waianae side. This state is in trouble. This scum takes over the Kalākaua pavilions on the beach and are passed out drunk everywhere....so those bad apples.
Ted’s Bakery in North Shore is a must
True dat. She missed that.
id say that and Giovannis shrimp truck! @@forme3h
If it's cold again when you come back to Oahu try Palace saimin. Saimin is a noodle soup like ramen, the saimin noodles have a different texture and taste.
So cute! Your daughter looked at the spoon again and then took another bite! :)
Thanks for sharing! And I felt exactly the same as you when you talked about the service in Kokohead Cafe!!! 😅
Hi. Thank you for sharing this video and experience. We’re going to Oahu this summer. What hotel did you stay in?
Thanks for sharing! Can you please share what hotels/Airbnb’s you stayed at? 🤗
Thank you so much for this video. I am frutarian and have been searching for a video that shows where one can find tropical fruit. I appreciate it loads!
please go to makaha beach park, its absolutely gorgeous there. Not sure if there are any special food places to go but they do serve local food in the area. If you continue to drive up to Ka'ena point you have an amazing view. You literally can't go any further since the road ends but it feels very deserted and rural.
I lived in Waipahu back in the 80's. Oh how I miss the wonderful locals and their food. Thanks for the lovely reminder 💖
What part of Waipahu? I'm from Honowai Circle, Waipahu.
Honowaiian!!!
Leoku near the shopping center. I also lived on Aupuni below Kamehameha Academy in Honolulu. Such a wonder life!
I miss home.🥺 I cant even afford to get back, much less even think of retiring or settling there.
Boots & kimo’s in Kailua, Romy’s shrimp in Kahuku and Leeward Drive Inn in Waipahu!
Love this!!! Please visit Maui!!! Our food are as good as Oahu! ❤️
I had a similar experience at koko head cafe. We might have had the same server. Wahiawa- shiges is a must
So glad made this! We have the same foods palette.
I visited Oahu and didn't visit a lot of these food places. Oh well, looks like I'll have to book another visit!
Try dipping the lomi salmon in the poi; for some reason, it takes away much of the sourness (maybe its the tomatoes). Also, the 'easy way out' of the poi sourness is to add sugar. As a kid I couldn't eat it without sugar. The difference is like a cacao bar with or without any sweetener.
Shrimp trucks . Definitely a must . Giovanni’s is our fave .
Wow !! Relaxing place.
Ill be there in couple of days... now i know where to eatttt yummy !
LOVE HAWAII 🤤❤️
I live in Maui but absolutely love the north shore :) gonna have to hit up some of these spots next time I go! ✨🏝💙
🍍🍍🍍🥥🥥🥥 loved this🍍🍍🍍🥥🥥🥥
I Miss My Island..Me & My Wife Moved Outta The Island About 5yrs Ago & Moved To The Mainland..B/c The Cost Of Living Is Too Expensive & Couldn't Afford To Buy A House In Hawaii & Renting For 15yrs + Got Us No Where.. But Anyhow, The Food & Especially The Poke I Really Miss..! I Use To Live In Kahuku Which Is My Home Town, My Wife Is From Waipahu & She Lives Just A Few Streets Down From Tanioka's..Btw Just A Few Stores Down From Tanioka's, There's A
Restaurant Called Honolulu Kitchen, There Fried Manapua's Is The Winners..!👍👍 Next Visit, Go Try It Out, They Have All Kine Flavor & I Promise You, You'll Like It, Guarantee..!😊
I grew up on Oahu and the only rival to taniokas is Fresh Catch there's one near Waikiki on Waialae Avenue. You should visit there on your next trip.
Oh man! My hubby and I have been off island since Oct and we're both dieing for Tanioka's.... Miss it so much.
Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, has a happy hour which is 50% on Sundays and Mondays. You'll have to line up at 4- 4:30pm though to get a seat!! And of course Leonards :) Malasadas are my favorite!
Heyyy!! Love the video! Thank you! My husband and I are going for our second honeymoon!! Is April a good season to visit ?? We wanted sun ☀️
I'm glad that u enjoyed our island of Oahu. Btw, Haleiwa is pronounced Ha-lay-eva. We pronounced W as a V, other than that, great video. Mahalo!
.So how do you pronounce Kewalo? Wahiawa? Kawaihao ?
@@ifcancanifnocannocan1044 Yep, some words are pronounced with a W and others with a V.
my wife and I love Juliez in Kapolei (filipino food). Our go to is 'Lechon Kawali' and the banana lumpia is really good.... and right next to Juliez is Enfuego, a local place that has upscale plate-lunches. Try the 'spicy garlic chicken'. can't go wrong with pretty much anything there...
What time of year was this? I'm going in December.
My question too
I came across Mikes Hule Chicken, it was fantastic , lots of flavour. I stayed on the North Shore for 10 days and eat at the food trucks most of the time for lunch and dinner 🥘
Sad the international market place is closed. My aunt used to work there and owned like this crystal store. I also grew up in Oahu for the first 10 years of my life and to see some old places is definitely amazing! Going to Hawaii again in April hope the weather isn't bad
I love your energy and just your vibe!! you know you taught me how to make ahi poke' and everytime i make it i search for your youtube!! your awesome!!
Next time you need to try the Ube tarts. :)
This is the most interesting video I watched on UA-cam about Hawaii’s food scene. Thank you very much Dzung!
Kahuku Shrimp Truck. You should come again and try it. It’s absolutely incredible!
Sumo Ramen, Mitsuken, Rainbows, St. Louise Drive Inn, Side Street Inn, Helen's, Graces, Ruger Market, and KJ's in Kaneohe, and Sekiya's.
"left something to be desired" is such a niche burn lol
When you're headed roughly NW from Kaneohe/Kailua, there's Papa Ole's (oh-lays) in Hauula(How-ooh-lah). Then just past Haleiwa is Pa'ala'a Kai bakery....
Waipahu, my hometown ❤️ I live up the road from Taniokas. I’m so happy you enjoy your stay on Oahu.
Love Mike's Hulu Hulu Chicken, Can you please post directions to his truck? I did not get where it was. Thanks!
I’m glad you visited our island. Next time you can come to the windward side and visit Moke’s Bread and Breakfast, Cinnamon’s and Over Easy. These are favorite breakfast places. Oh, a shout out to a local coffee shop where they roast their own coffee, Chadlou’s in Kailua. See you next time.
Great video thanks for the information 👍
What time of the year did you guys go? Planning a trip to Hawaii but want to avoid the raining season.
Wow, so different and still beautiful. One of my favorites that we found waaay back when we lived there was monapua from the monapua factory (I don't remember the little town it was in), don't think it is there now. thanks for sharing, loved the video.
Aiea...in Aiea.
Manapua
You mentioned that it was cold. What time of the year did you go?
What is the name of the bird that is heard in the background at the 4:10 minute mark?
me and my husband went to Honolulu we explored but could not find many places I wanted to eat at . next time you go let us know I want to visit all those places was kinda lost, haha
Hi would love to know where you stayed at during your trip?
We stayed at the Ritz Carlton residences :)
Hello! I would love to know what beach you were at while eating Mike’s Huli Chicken? I’m going next week and looking forward to trying many of your recs! Thank you! -G
