To the critics...1: no one is holding a gun to your head to make you watch the video, 2: feel free to criticize when you have to pay to watch, 3: criticism should come from parents or teachers, not some randos off the street. I realize Paden is long gone as this was 10 yrs ago, but is applicable to those in the program in 2024.

This young lady sings about 3 octaves under Geddy - but still - warms my old heart that kids are inspired still by the Thrilling 3..

Yeah, these folks work their butts off to get to this level, competing with thousands of others in the School of Rock program. They got the set list three weeks before and only met as a band three DAYS earlier.
Geddy, Alex, and Neil would be proud.

Btw the quality of your videos surpasses those posted on YT of other SOR performances. (I'm aware that other videos are usually done by amateurs, family members, etc.) Kudos to your crew members. Midwest Concert videos do a great job of capturing the kids' performances with relatively little equipment and probably a limited budget.
@@daviddemar8749 Sorry I hadn't seen your reply. UA-cam doesn't let me know when I get a response, but I had to in this case. I have no crew. Usually it's just me, occasionally my wife, and in this case a volunteer camera operator.
Watching this in 2021, they nailed 👌a difficult Rush song.

Derek is spot on for the drum parts, I've played drums on and off 40 years 34 playing Rush and attending many Rush concerts, The Holy Trinity of rock. DYK Rush has officially retired from touring.
Look through my channel for some other great performances. Rush is one of the shows that kids and teens in the School of Rock program aspire to (along with Zappa.)

Well done kids. This isn't a easy song. The guitarists and drummer nailed it. The keyboardist nailed it as well. Getty Lee vocals are difficult.
I am sickened by the # of negative comments about the performance of some of these band members. Besides being off-base and/or exaggerated, they are uncalled for and classless. These comments stick to these kids like flypaper. What kind of flaming asshole harshly and publicly criticizes young kids brave enough to tackle iconic songs by some of the finest musicians in the world. If you can’t find goodness in that then you’re no fan of real rock & roll. These are teenagers who squeeze in rehearsals after school and then go do homework & term papers!

Not everyone can multitask bass, keyboard, AND lead vocals like Geddy Lee. PLUS it allows more to participate in the performances, which is one of the SOR's goals.

Cool, thanks for the info. I shoot these videos, and except for the local Schools of Rock, I never know what the AllStars do later in their careers.

The drummer has that same happy-go-lucky look that Ringo Starr has playing for the Beatles except that he is paying homage to drumming legend Neil Peart.

Well said. I remember my college roommate mentioning that he was impressed at the sound Rush got with only 3 guys. It didn’t dawn on me until that time when I understood they were gods.

Great band, including keyboards. The vocalist was very good in other songs. But, she's not suited to this one. They should have figured that out during rehearsals.
They had a total of two days of rehearsal. Listening to it again, I thought she did a very credible job, singing in the same range as the original - Rush is almost always sung by women in School of Rock shows.

A UA-cam channel showing earnest, talented and brave kids (gender is NOT at play here) doing their level best to perform at a level nearly always well above their actual age is NOT one of those sites desperately needing your kind of blatant criticism. (See below for an example)
Let’s be clear, Truthteller, art is subjective. What you hear and appreciate varies wildly from what others hear. Do you love modern art or screaming death metal? Uniformity does not exist.
Secondly, it’s like telling a really tall person how tall they are - these kids aren’t in a dreamworld. They watch themselves. They know where they did well or when they fell short.
These are vulnerable, still forming young people who live in a cruel fishbowl called high school. Yours was not a critique to a young person; you told them “it would’ve been great were it not for you!” Lovely. Do you not think other SoR band mates will see your takedown? Her parents will also see these comments. As a parent who had a daughter in the SoR House Band, my heart would’ve broken for my child. You’ve given her an albatross necklace as your gift.
There are so many better, constructive ways you could’ve gotten your point across, still felt superior, but saved a few feelings. “I give that young singer a lot of credit for putting it all on the line when it comes to singing a Geddy Lee vocal - a bit more practice and she’ll nail it!”
My Irish father used an old saying about people who insist on “telling the truth” no matter the consequences; “That guy thinks his shit is cake and everybody’s clamoring for a piece.”
