I did the Corinth Canal 2 years ago to get back to Preveza where the boat winters (Cleopatra's Mariana/boat yard) in October. The canal was the worlds largest geological exhibit as well as a canal! Loved it, most surreal. Corinth, well we stayed there and I was not in love with the place and was not disappointing to leave!! Once into the Gulf of Corinth the weather was on the nose and as we had people on the boat trying to get back to Preveza for a flight back home in 2 days it was engine on and bash bash bash all the way. Though we did stop at a place called Galaxidi, which had a nice feel and was a major ship building place in the 19th Century, good museum to while away an hour while the rain and wind lashed the Gulf. Next day still behind schedule we dropped our passengers off at Nafpaktos on the mainland so they could get a bus!! We then transited under the bridge with huge waves roller-coasting us along!! Yours was a more sedate trip!! We headed for Messolongi for the night and were thankfully to be out of the wind and waves for a while!! Interesting place, its where Lord Byron died while supporting the Greek War of Independence in 1824!
Hi guys. Loving the videos of your adventures. I also live on the Goldcoast and im looking for somewhere to gain my ICC . Where did Tracy get hers. Many thanks
Hi Tallulah, thanks so much, glad you are enjoying the videos :). Tracey went up to Manly near Brisbane (Southern Cross Yachting). Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and good luck.
Something goes wrong on the weather map and the power of the winds, maybe. These winds will have to be higher than the sea for sure. I loved your video and your trip.
Thanks very much, appreciate the kind words :) Yes it was a bit surprising however we realise the conditions can change at any time. Thanks for watching!
Yay, glad you enjoyed it and thank you for following our journey! We are loving the Ionian Islands, have you been here before or are you planning to come here?
Hi Ray, the height of the bridge is between 25-45 metres and once you tell them your mast height they direct you to the area you should go under. Thanks for your comment and watching :)
Hey! Nice video! I'm circling the peloponese next month so I'll do almost the same trip. One question: is the traffic regulated under the bridge? Do you have to call before passing under???
Hi Don, I assume you mean the Rion bridge? If so yes you need to Radio 5nm before the bridge and they give you directions. We had to call 2 times, 5nm and 2nm but it was an easy process. Hope you enjoy the trip we certainly did, if you have any other questions just ask :)
Thanks Pedro, just subscribed to your channel and saw you visited QLD, we are from the Gold Coast, hope you enjoyed Australia. Thanks again for watching and great to hear from you again :)
Hi Peter, it's actually really good. In our first video we went too hard on it throttle wise but now we have learnt to slow down a little and it lasts a long time and is quick to charge so we are loving it. Being able to charge it with the sun and not petrol is wonderful!! Saves the environment, money, time and it's so far very reliable. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed the vid :)
@@SailingKawai maybe worth doing a segment on the outboard as they are a new concept. I am sure people would like to hear the details. Winter sailing in the Med is so different from the summer. Thanks for your videos...
No worries Peter, glad you enjoyed :) okay sounds good we will look at doing that in a future video, thanks for your advice! Yes we can't wait for summer! Thanks again for following our adventure.
I was also going to ask for a segment on the electric outboard. Another great video guys. One question, when you showed the prop, was you under sail or motor?
@@SailingKawai Early days yet but I'm thinking of heading inside of Evia towards the Northern Sporades onto Sithonia and then to Turkey. Are you crossing the Atlantic this year? All the best
Awesome that sounds good, haven't heard or seen much of that area so will be good to see! Turkey rocks, we really loved it there and wish we could go back. Yeah we plan to cross in November at this stage. Chat soon
What do you mean, EU did not build the canal! The canal was built long before the EU, by a French company Société Internationale du Canal Maritime de Corinthe, which was commissioned to construct the canal by the Greek government at the time and operate it for the next 99 years… because the Greek state was too poor and did not have enough money to build it after the Greek Turkish war.. It was the Germans when they were leaving Greece during WWII that destroyed the bridge and caused heavy landslides at the canal as they were leaving Peloponnese.. The Germans never paid any money to Greece for the killings and the destruction they cast upon Greece. Greece was the only country in Europe to fight the Germans , the Greek resistance lasted 219 days as opposed to France 43 (the super power at the time). Greece lost 10% of it's population as opposed to 2% of the French and suffered big economic losses.. Now the EU money you are talking about never reached Greece, they went to save the German and French banks. The first to propose such an undertaking of building the canal was the tyrant Periandros in the 7th century BC. The project was abandoned and Periandros instead constructed a simpler and less costly overland portage road, named Diolkos or stone carriageway, along which ships could be towed from one side of the isthmus to the other. You can still see the ancient diolkos today. If you were talking about the bridge, the bridge was 45% state contribution and 45% EU loan, so the EU is taking back their money with interest.. The toll on each passage on the bridge is 13.5 Euro and with 620 euros minimum salary in Greece is no wonder why not so many use it. They take the ferry instead which is 6.5 euros with car
@@SailingKawai well, he got there somehow, i never went thru that canal, so idk if it could have walked on the sides or not. one thing is for sure, he did not fell from up, he would have not survived the fall. so maybe he came on the sides ?
excellent corinth canal journey.thank you sharing very nice video
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed the video :). Appreciate the kind words.
Beautiful bridge, been across. Cost about 800 million Euros and hardly any traffic on it, Patros to nowhere.
It was a cool bridge, wow really, didn't know that, Thanks for the info :) Hope you enjoyed our trip through the Corinth :)
Nice video, liked the drone footage of the canal, not seen it like that before.
Thanks Barry, glad you enjoyed it :) and thanks for watching.
