Another top notch review. This is how you do it. Loved the older versions! Great stuff!
Never played the originals but I kind of dig the art style actually. Vehicles have an almost plasticky or toy look to them. Like playing with GI Joes or Army Men when I was a kid
While I do agree, I think it would've benefitted from some sort of occlusion to outline the unit models so they don't blend together into an amorphous mass of colour during the battle animations. Or even a cell shading type of colouring where the edges of the models are highlighted in black to make them more visible. The aesthetic is great, but I think a little more could've been done to realize it.
Also, do you know if the VA can be turned off?
I'm so excited about this release. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Great review!
Advanced Wars is an absolute classic series. I replayed both GBA last during Covid lockdowns and I've been dying for this port. The fast forward button is a gamechanger for quality of life fixes for when you have a match with a ton of units in play and keeps me from disabling the battle animations. I really hope they get around to doing a port of Dual Strike on a single screen for the Switch. I also agree that the new art style is the weakest point of the port.
I love your reviews so much!!!! Thanks Vic for recommending me games for as long as I can remember!!
Great timing! Just picked it up
I definetely prefer the pixel art of the original. That's why I picked up one of my all-time GBA favorites on Wii-U for $8 just before this $60 cash-in came out.
Nice review! I really appreciate your positivity in all your content. It really makes a difference in this hectic world 🙂
I loved playing these games back in the day
I prefer the new look of the World Map, but prefer the old sprites for the battles.
GD, I remember when this game was new.
Cool Vic! I played the GC one!
Thanks Vic, they're SO ADDICTIVE.
This game looks pretty cool. Great review from the best to do it. I find if Victor likes or dislikes a game I could pretty much guarantee that I will like or dislike the game cause we have the same gaming tastes
Glad to hear that Advance Wars is alive and well on the Switch. I'll be picking this one up just as soon as I finish with the Megaman Battle Network collection
Don’t forget to pick me up too.
Love this game! I really hope they don’t give up on this franchise I hope it sells well enough but there hasn’t been any new games in the series for quite sometime until this and it’s a reboot . Either way great game!
Always wanted to get into advance wars back in the day but couldn't find a physical copy. Glad for Nintendo's estore
I GOTTA PLAY THIS!! ^^
Have a friend who has a big Game Boy Advanced collection. Will have to tell him about this new version.
This makes me want to play Into the Breach on my Switch. I wonder if it make sense to own this as well? 🤔
There’s an approachable charm to this that Into The Breach doesn’t quite have plus way more units on screen to play with. Both great. The Switch is a strategy fan’s dream console!
@@EPN Do you remember the spin-off of this Battalion Wars?
I loved the GBA advance war and but as a returning player, I found the first 10 missions and tutorials very annoying. I wished the Switch version have a function to skip some of the beginning missions.
I guess I played them way too much on the gba. I was hoping for some extras. The graphics are OK coulda been much better.
Thanks for the great review Vic 👍🏻
Fantastic game, great to play this again, never expected Advance Wars to return.
I wish they went for a 2DHD look like Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy etc. though. The new graphics lost a lot of the charm. Anyway, great game!
It's too bad they didn't incorporate a mixed medium approach to the art direction where the units on the map could've been their pixel art originals and they could've spent more time making the battle scenes actually look decent.
Also the performance is very much inconsistent which matters less for a tactics game but still disappointing coming from Nintendo
Victor Is there no online match?
Friends only. But you can play multiplayer locally on one system or up to four.
That’s a shame since I have no friends lol

They should have had a graphics option to switch to the old sprite animations as alternate look, the 3-d models look really bland.
Agreed!
Glad I have AW 1, 2 and Dual Strike on my Wii U, without having to pay an annual fee.
It's freaking insane they aren't releasing this game in Japan. You know... where the series was born? I know it struggled there, but I also feel it's a disservice to the original creators by not releasing it there.
Playing for years? They’re amazing games but that’s a bit long.
Soooo.... C&C for children?
You can tell Nintendo gave WayForward a nothing budget to make that game...WAY more production values in the FE series. I am a stan for very good sprite work and this is not it. At least they were able to get the core gameplay in there.
FE went through a lot of iterations before it got the mega budgets of event titles. Advance Wars will keep rocking. It’s also harder to market Advance Wars than the fantasy fuelled Fire Emblem franchise.
Meh, not a fan of the new graphics. Would have purchased a straight port for $20, but passing on this one.
I think it kinda sucks. It's a little lazy. Some of the levels are really hard all of a sudden. I think they should've done something different with this
No performance analysis ? Is this a review or a joke ?
