I really would love to see this redone with dioxazine purple as the Overshade of Purple. It's such a rich Royal Purple it probably make that pink much more vibrant and contrasting than it turned out.
That red one looks EXACTLY how I want my Custom Craftworld to look. And the shiny is exactly how I'm going to do my 30k Emperors children. Great job man, love this series, cant wait to binge watch all your other stuff
That yellow based Rose with either black or silver trim could make some spectacular Wordbearers. Also that much more blueish purple looked more like a ultramarine at sunset than one of the Emperorschildren.
Love the idea of a sunset Ultramarine! (And as a WB collector, you won't catch me normally using 'love' and 'ultramarine' in the same sentence!) I tackled EC in a recent vid in a more 'traditional' screaming pink fashion :D
It might be limited, but an exploration of orange might be cool, balancing orange leaning into red, yellow, and brown. Possibly exploring a bit on tmm copper/bronze/ warmer golds.
Been going through and watching a bunch of your videos, and I gotta say. It is fucking criminal that you have such few subs and views. Your underpainting vids and color theory work are amazing
Thank you! I'm sure there's more I could do to pull views, but at the end of the day I'm happy with slow sustainable views :) There'll be plenty more colour theory stuff down the line as well :))
Green would’ve been a fun addition. Idk how it’d work as an under coat but I know my all time favorite color mix is Phtalo Green and Magenta. The result is thee most rich and saturated purples 🙌🏻
Really loving the video i would love to see you take on Chaos space marines with all the trim and such and would also love to see your take on alpha legion as there is as many heads of the hydra as there is colors of the alpha legion
You almost got the one right with the liche purple and worlock purple tones plus edging. But ya gotta get the full yellow gold right to make it pop proper. Lui'N - Troops of Dong
That blue one really does it for me, and I think this is the best shiny so far! I'd love to see you explore underpainting different materials, what do you do differently when painting skin or cloth as opposed to armor?
The pink looked so sweet! It looks a bit more chalky/speckly/dry then the others though? I wonder if a gloss or satin varnish would've removed that? While I've enjoyed all of these videos, I think this is the first time that I really loved how all of them turned out. Favourite, well either the yellow or mr shiny, although I think I'd prefer him to be more metallic/shiny, but that might just be the camera. :) I know it was mentioned already, but underpainting for skin would be lovely to see. Skin is something I really struggle with myself, so any tips/time savers would be great. (-:
Really pleased to hear you’re enjoying the vids! The pink guy is a little more speckly - I think this is mostly down to the under paints. The closer you get to white, the more speckles, in my experience. (Trying out some different approaches to airbrushing white is on my list of to-dos) Alright, skin is definitely on the list!
@@GRGMiniatures That is very true. White can be a b*tch when it comes to speckling/drying bad. Tbh, using UMP (Ultimate Modelling Products) white primer and the speckling is a lot better then other primers. I have to remember to try it out for this. Yeah on skin! :D
Hi Tony, I don’t have scale 75s Petrol, and can’t find a link to it, but I’d be weary of calling them a match - ‘Petrol’ isn’t a pigment or traditional name, so chances are different companies will have quite different takes. The thing you’re looking for is a darker, desaturated blue that’s sliiiiightly on the greener side of blue (rather than a rich, red-side blue).
@@GRGMiniatures Ok that’s for the information. Is there somewhere to get more info on the colors bein used or is it a skill u require over time. It does seem like a deep color theory kind of thing. I’m still new so it makes more sense to me that it’s a skill to b learned.
Am I crazy or is your thumbnail title ‘Purple Perfection’ a reference to the 40k audio drama ‘Perfection’, which involves the Emperor’s Children who wear the colour purple? Am I reading way too far into this? Should I stop making such speculations and just go to bed? Anyway, it’s a great tutorial!
Thank you! And no, you’re not really reading too much into the title :D I didn’t know about the BL book, but it is definitely an Emp’s Kids reference ;)

Cheers mate. This is exactly the kind of experiment i have been looking for!
No worries! Glad you enjoyed! :)

Orange definitely feels like a gap in the series! And now I have the Speed Paint orange, I think I have a nice overcoat to work with!
I absolutely love your understanding of colours, undertones and paint combinations.
Thank you!
Dude, this a really helpful video as I'm painting a purple Chaos Faction. Definitely using this in the future!
Really pleased to hear that! :D
that blue & shinny are awesome buddy!!
Cheers, mate :D
Yes been waiting for this one! Thank you - off to watch now…
Hope you enjoyed!
@@GRGMiniatures I did very much! Though the most practical, the blue base is also my favorite.
A variation of the blue, and as a coat GSW Purple Garnet will be the scheme for my loyalist EC. Thanks a bunch!
Loyalist EC? What is this unheresy?! :P
But seriously, really glad you enjoyed and found your scheme! :)

Yeah, I’m definitely interested too. Maybe I need to do a round up of all the major mixes I missed 🤔

I’ve got an idea for handling the Endless Trim Hell that is CSM painting, as it happens. And some new CSM from the Nachmund box, so who knows…… 😁

Fantastic idea. One of the original inspirations for exploring all this was the old oil painter technique of verdaccio
This made me look at my Emperors children army sat ready to be built and painted and i really want to give it a go
Yeeeesss. Dooo iiiiiit :D
Can I request a do-over on this one?
Maybe not a do-over, but a part two.
Seeing as these mostly came out more fuscia than purple-purple.
Definitely some loose ends I want to tie up from this series. Stay tuned! :D

Enjoyed the colour exploration as always.
But is it just me or is this video only uploaded at 360p resolution though?
Not sure why, but the HD processing is taking a very long time today :(
@@GRGMiniatures At least the intro music is back. I missed it in your last video.
Would the equivalent of petrol in scale 75 also called petrol or is there a different name for it?

I don’t know why, but the HD is taking forever to process 😭😭😭 hopefully it’ll be done soon…..

Do these molotow paints not need primer?
Nope, except maybe some of the yellows which seem to be a bit weaker in my experience.
