I’ve received squished tires from many brands of tire; it has to do with the way the warehouse stores and packs them and it’s not necessarily a reflection of the brand. What techniques and tips do you guys have for installing smashed tires? Thank you for watching my video and hanging out, we will put the exhaust and everything else on next! You all ROOOCK!!!
When you get them squished cut the bands loose right away then I find anything to put inside of the tires to stretch them out and let them sit for a couple days in warmth The tires weren't obviously made like that they were stored like that for a while you just have to reverse that process
put in a tube, air up the tire with tube for a couple days then take the tire off and the tube out, tire should be good to go. It's a lot more steps but should work well
Michael when you are doing the starter fluid method with the tire make sure that you have constant air pressure blowing into the vent so that when it catches at one second it’ll seat the bead right away.
Taking the banshee so the guy can admire the finished product of his hard work is awesome. I work in oil and gas and have spent most of my time on the excavation/construction side of things, always love going back to job sites I have been part of building or driving on roads I took part in building, just something about admiring the end product of your blood, sweat and tears.
When doing the ether trick, put the air chuck on and put something on the lever to keep giving it air. Makes it a little simpler. Take the valve core out as well. More flow makes it easier
Yeah I use the ratchet strap and ether method with my air chuck locked on blowing air before I start😂. But it’s like you said no single method/combo is the same on every tire. They are just generally a PITA!!! Great video as always
put spacers between the beads and put them in the sun. or some way to warm them up. on most car tires I use aerosol cans standing upright between the beads. let them shape up. then mount them and it will be much easier than wrestling with it. took buddy 6 hours. 3 hours of stretch time and one hour of wrestling. still saves time.
Man I miss having more Aftermarket parts availability! Even more than that, I Miss the quad market being as Big as it was to drive the market! So many great quads and aftermarket companies in the past! Big hats off to DG for sure!
Get a hands free air chuck (it clips on to the valve stem without having to hold it) and a Tire Bead Blaster (an small air tank with a pipe with a quick release valve). A lot safer, a little noisier, but I would say, more reliable and cool 👍. Especially if are going to be replacing a lot of tires.
+1 on the bead blaster / bead cheetah. Don't know if they're cost effective enough to warrant buying, but I've had to use them in the past to stretch car tyres onto wider, small diameter wheels (like ATV dimensions) and it works like magic
ether trick is way easier to use and makes more sense as far as money and uses go you can't start your bike with a blast of air or carry it on the trails
Dude I was DYINGGGG over the rear tires with the either 🤣🤣🤣 your videos are amazing on every level bro the ATV community would never be the same without you man 🤣🤣🤣🤟🏼🤟🏼
Mike your videos are so amazing and awesome to watch. I use to ride dirt bikes and quads over 15yrs ago and I admit I miss it so much. When I watch your videos riding or wrenching it brings me back to that time in my life. Thanks for making all these videos for us to enjoy!
Yo Mike , the Bead Buster is a cool tool you should get 1 it operates off an impact wrench (I have it , worth the investment). Pro Tip: if you wanna save your rim’s from scratches you can put a glove 🧤on the prying end of the bar. Hope that helps 👍🏻
Pretty funny tire portion. We just installed new tires on some Douglas racing aluminum wheels and I kid you not, we needed about 100 psi to seat the bead properly. The tires say do not exceed 20psi for seating bead. We tried everything. After a few hours we just said screw it, put the tire under the blade of our mini excavator, hid behind a wall and let it eat.
I feel your pain on mounting those tires. Sometimes they seat perfectly, then there is the dreaded 4+ hour job. Nothing like the sweet sound of the bead seating when you have been fighting with them for so long.
I’ve been waiting 2 weeks for this YESS THANKS MICHAEL this is what keeps me from losing my self when I have a bad day thank you a lot man means so much ❤️❤️
The only brand new vehicle I ever bought was a 2003 Lakota and can tell you everything about the one you have is completely stock! I beat the hell out of that thing for years until I got a banshee. Also, prior to 01 I believe, the Lakota was a utility quad hence the heavy weight
Hell yea man! Yes, I think dirt wheels called it a hybrid between sport and utility. I may actually buy racks for this one after the series because it would make a great work quad or camera equipment carrier.
Michael when im mounting an atv tire i have a jug of tire slick and i will try to get one side of the bead to semi seat first then i wil use a locking open chuck and lean the rim against an object and push on it till the other bead takes . once it does i pull the locking chuck of and already have the shrader valve in the stemworks 98% of the time for me
I need to rebuild mine one of these days when I bought it like 4 years back I did a half-ass rebuild just to get it running and riding I need to go all out this time around🤘
Mike I feel your pain on the tires brother, Like you said just take them to the tire shop unless you have your own equipment. I'd get so mad I would feel like setting my bike on fire and forgetting the whole thing. Nice perseverance on getting the job done thought. 👍👍👍
i change all my own tires, and ive done a lot because i buy and sell quads and motorcycles, so i do a lot of z rated motorcycle tires, i have no idea why but, i "ALWAYS" struggle wiith quad tires. its gotta be the small diameter plus width that makes them so difficult. i definately feel your pain, im glad you included the struggle, otherwise i might have thought a lot less of myself🤣🤣
Been there and done that on the kenda tires. They must strap them for shipment when still soft out of the mold. Can’t wait for the tri-z video tomorrow.
Hey man for future reference on squished tires get some big c clamps (harbor freight) and stick in the tires to expand them and set in the sun for a couple hours it'll help flex them putward
Use a sledgehammer to seat it. Once it has air just give it some whacks in the middle of the thread where it doesnt wanna seat. Works every time for me.
Great video Mike! I am patiently waiting for the rest of this awesome series! Also I wanted to add a little trick I learned from a friend on breaking the beads without your special bead breaking tool. Most everyone has a floor jack so I guess that might be an exception, but jacking up the front or rear of your pickup and sliding the edge of your crusty old tire with stubborn bead under your vehicle tire and letting down slowly has always worked for me when I run into a bad one. 👍
I've changed my fair share of stubborn tires at home with tire spoons and ratchet straps and such like you did in this video. It took many years to finally hone in my skills to where it's actually very easy now. With all that said, here's the secret. I've found that the most important step is to make sure you take it to your local tire shop and let them do it.
Thanks for the video Mike I'm always checking to see if you uploaded . Totally agree with taking them to the tire shop, this is one job that's not worth the time struggling. Love your content !!
Brings back memories to when my dad would throw premix into a campfire. I used to play around with a Suzuki 300 quad that was pretty fun. Midsized are amazing!
Awesome video. Another trick I use for quads and skid steers, is to remove the valve core in the tire stem, and then push the female quick connect on the air hose straight onto the now hollow valve stem. This allows air in at a much faster rate and is great for seating tires. Just be ready to put your finger over the end of the stem once it's got air in it, until you can quickly screw the core back in.
That's crazy, I've yet to order tires. I will be at some point. But I been using the RM link. Gotta get me an atv stand, oem banshee fenders, tires, always something getting ordered. My voodoo hoody is sick dude. I get so many comments on it!! Always trying to help the channel. Struggle deff was real in this vid lol 😂
Really gotta have air allready going into the tire when you do the ether trick. Helps it explode better, and if it does seal for a second it helps keep it that way.
MECHANIC TIP-- Cut a couple lengths of 2x4 or something and pull the beads apart. Put the wood between them and stretch the tire bout. Let that sit in the sun for 20 or 30 minutes and the tire will keep that shap some. When you get the tire on the wheel soak the bead with dawn or other liquid soap.. you need to lube the bead so the bead will slip on the rims bead... also take the valve core out of the thing so you can get air in it faster. What I do Is either a cheeta (makes it sooo easy) or stand the tire up and smack it hard with a mini sledge. That will force the beads out maybe just enough to catch.. you can also slam it down on the ground to achieve the same thing.. I've been a mechanic for 20 years and been doin tires like this and usually have very little issues. I didn't have time to watch the whole video but I have my tricks ill share....
The inner tube trick is to get one bead as close as seated as possible then you use a tube smaller in diameter so it’s a little snug over the rim then inflate it to seal against the rim and tire then air up the tire. Use plenty of lube/soapy water and the tube should pop off as it seats
I loved my Lakota sport, $300 dollars non running, cleaned the carb and beat it to death for several years and never skipped a beat. Great for cruising the woods. Heavy but was a lot of fun. I regret selling that thing. Probably still running today.
Good video Mike. I have that same bead breaker. I welded all of the bolt together joints and it works 10 times better. Mine breaks down car and truck tires also. 👍🏼Might be a fun welding project for you to tackle.
My trick for doing this at my dads shop was to get the tire as warm as I could. Either by setting it in the sun on nice days or in front of a heater. Also a rubber tipped air gun works way better then a tire inflator tool because it lets more air faster into the schrader valve opening. Those are the two addons I have. Thankfully I did more street bikes and dirt bikes than quads and those tires at least 10 years ago never came like these.
awesome video and an excellent display of why I refuse to mount tires lol. I will say that I found a company named No-Mar who makes a really good manual tire mounting machine that is at a fair price. Keep up the great work and banger vids lil bro!!!!
Mike's stuff is the cleanest out there.. just crisp and clean as hell .. all hos videos are top notch.. its upsetting he dosnt do the funny skits no more .. no cap I really tuned in for those just as much. But I n know how much extra time they take to film.. I bet it's days of extra work to edit and film those.. but I mis them..
Hey, man! Long time viewer here (in my mind, at least - viewer since the voodoo banshee!) I have a 98 Blaster that I am working with right now. I bought some tires off Amazon and they arrived just as smooshed! My tip for the next set - 20oz pop bottles! Take the 20ozers and stuff them between the beads to stretch the tires back out. Leave the bottles in them and let them sit somewhere warm to expand for a few days to a week - should be "normal" dimensions after a few days. I used four per tire and they seemed to work out good like that. My 40 cent fix for ya! PS - I am STOKED to see you working on a blaster! It's great to have your work as a reference. I am learning much from you, sir! Thanks for your time editing and sharing! Looking forward to some blaster wheelies! Enjoy and be safe!
Man I never laughed so hard watching the ether fails. After doing my raptor with squished tires I said never again, and switched it over to deadlocks for wheels. Much easier to install tires on the bead lock wheels. When my Polaris needed new tires I took the wheels to the tire shop and had them do it. They were heavy duty 6 ply tires that I would have never gotten to seat. Great Video!
Did a blaster up in 2006...vito's 240 top end...hot rod crank...HMF pipe and silencer ...carb kit....(ran on race gas)....owned a dozen quads (200cc to 1000cc) and that one is the one I wish i still had...it was super light ...crazy fast...and very easy to ride all day... added plus was ...it was bullet proof, ultra reliable...can't wait to see what you do to this one... From my igloo on the mountain in alberta Canada 🇨🇦 D.
OMG 😂this video had me LMFAO 😂great job mike, I’ve been riding quads lil over 20 years and I’ve done this 1 time and I said to myself never again would I do it. This last summer I got new front and rear paddles for my YFZ the shop I use by my house that knows me and my family he only charged me 40$ bucks to dismount the old tires and mount up all the new sand tires all up..
my buddy installed tires on forklifts . here is a good tip for receiving squashed tires and opening them back up . find any size innertube that will fit inside the unmounted squashed new tires or old . inflate tube to spread the tire outwards as much as you can .put out in sun unless its winter. put somewhere warm in winter like next to your woodburner. he said it may take up to 24 hours.
Been there doing a set of 10 ply 16 ×33 truck tires in freezing Temps met you a long time ago really enjoy watching your builds partial to grizzlys my self performs like a sport and works just ad good keep it up
Those heavy bar ends are handlebar dampners to control vibration felt through the grips. That is high tech items of 80's and 90's. Also, unband those tires and put them in hot water a couple days before installing new tires. When the tires get hot, just shape them to the shape they need to be and then just allow the tires to cool down slowly to remove the memory from being folded and shipped in the cold. Tire changing definetly sucks during the winter season.
The ether method works best when you are putting air through the valve stem at the same time. It helps to mix the ether, and helps keep the tire from coming right back off the bead.
for your trouble with the brake master cylinder, you have a fluid return hole in the master cylinder ( smallest of the two) and if that one is clogged , its the kind of symptoms that might happen , while changing the fluids, check to make sure that its clean love your videos :)
In the future, put 50:50 dish washing liquid and water mix on the bead prior to the gas trick. The soap will allow you to slip it on the rim much more easily and when you gas trick it too. I use a bbq brush to apply it on the tire bead and a baby bottle to hold the mix.
Really enjoy these videos. I don't own a quad, but I started looking for one - as a project. I noticed the scar on your left hand is still there. Wasn't that from the Polaris Predator build? (that was also an awesome video). Be safe.
I noticed your Federal Signal shirt.....are you affiliated with them? Also, I work for Honda....we use silicone spray to seat beads because WD40 is said to attack rubber. The Honda stuff is a super slippery liquid when applied and then settles into a lightweight grease. For the deformation, we take the mega thick cardboard slabs from boxes and fold them into "posts" that we stretch the beads apart with. Let them sit out in the sun for a couple hours, and bingo bango....no more deformities. Makes them easier to work with. I love this machine you've tinkered with...watched all the Top Quad vids and returning to these vids. Might have to trade in my Meatball 300EX for this Lakota............. :D
I work at a shop that regularly mounts atv/utv tires, and when we get squished tires like that we put 3-4 2x2 pieces of wood cut to a few inches (idk? 6”?🤷🏾♂️) and spread the tires for at least a few hours before we mount them. Works like a dream everytime. If you don’t want to use 2x2’s, find some nice robust sticks and cut em to length
If I may make a recommendation on the tire expansion trick, try to find and use starting fluid that doesn’t contain oil. As a kid I’ve seen my grandad do this with tractor tires all the way down to rotto tiller tires, and since then I’ve used several different highly flammable substances to do this. From xylene, methanol to acetylene etc. Id also recommend taking the air hose off and the valve core out to any viewers watching. Because I’ve seen some use to much of a given substance and the tire blows off the rim because the air had no where to go!
Grill propane tank with a "trash torch" lightly keep the flame at a safe distance and gradually warm them up.
When you get them squished cut the bands loose right away then I find anything to put inside of the tires to stretch them out and let them sit for a couple days in warmth The tires weren't obviously made like that they were stored like that for a while you just have to reverse that process
please remane this video man fights small tire with fire... hahha
put in a tube, air up the tire with tube for a couple days then take the tire off and the tube out, tire should be good to go. It's a lot more steps but should work well
Put a ratchet strap around the tire to compress the Middle to squish the bead out
I just appreciate you showing the struggle and not sugar coating that it’s always easy. Respect ✊🏽
That and the meticulous aspect it really itches the ocd perfectionist scratch lol
Michael when you are doing the starter fluid method with the tire make sure that you have constant air pressure blowing into the vent so that when it catches at one second it’ll seat the bead right away.
Taking the banshee so the guy can admire the finished product of his hard work is awesome. Yeah I actually wanted him to film the owner’s response!!! That would have been awesome
It’s a good day when sabo uploads 💪
Thank you for saying that bro
I agree!!!😎💪🇺🇸
On the money
Yeah Boy!!!
facts....
When doing the ether trick, put the air chuck on and put something on the lever to keep giving it air. Makes it a little simpler. Take the valve core out as well. More flow makes it easier
Love how you don't cut out the issues. Really shows how everyone runs into issues.
hey mike, little tip that helps seating the bead, wrap a ratchet strap around the center of the tire and crank it down. it forces the bead outward!
Yeah I use the ratchet strap and ether method with my air chuck locked on blowing air before I start😂. But it’s like you said no single method/combo is the same on every tire. They are just generally a PITA!!! Great video as always
ah yes, the good old strap and pray method. Sketchy but very effective
put spacers between the beads and put them in the sun. or some way to warm them up. on most car tires I use aerosol cans standing upright between the beads. let them shape up. then mount them and it will be much easier than wrestling with it. took buddy 6 hours. 3 hours of stretch time and one hour of wrestling. still saves time.
Man I miss having more Aftermarket parts availability! Even more than that, I Miss the quad market being as Big as it was to drive the market! So many great quads and aftermarket companies in the past! Big hats off to DG for sure!
I feel you there man; I'm doing my best to bring back the industry a bit!
Dude I was DYINGGGG over the rear tires with the either 🤣🤣🤣 your videos are amazing on every level bro the ATV community would never be the same without you man 🤣🤣🤣🤟🏼🤟🏼
Those bar end weights damp vibrations and help people not have to buy expensive floating bar setups, however nice they might be. 😉
Love to see another Sabo video! This quad is gonna be INSANE!
This is why I enjoy your videos you actually spend money on good parts and install them correctly ty ty
Little tip, when seating a bead spray some soapy water on the bead it will help, and show if it is leaking
I feel your pain on mounting those tires. Sometimes they seat perfectly, then there is the dreaded 4+ hour job. Nothing like the sweet sound of the bead seating when you have been fighting with them for so long.
I’ve been waiting 2 weeks for this YESS THANKS MICHAEL this is what keeps me from losing my self when I have a bad day thank you a lot man means so much ❤️❤️
dude the explosion efx had me rolling, the one when you were seating the tire scared the piss outta me!! LOL
Lmao; sorry about that Austin

@@MichaelSabo There's also a hitch system available for them too, at least there was at one point 😂
Dam the tire struggles are real lol love when they inflat then just deflat in same shot lol good job bro
Such a heart breaker when that happens lol
Michael when im mounting an atv tire i have a jug of tire slick and i will try to get one side of the bead to semi seat first then i wil use a locking open chuck and lean the rim against an object and push on it till the other bead takes . once it does i pull the locking chuck of and already have the shrader valve in the stemworks 98% of the time for me

Thanks for the video Mike
I'm always checking to see if you uploaded . Totally agree with taking them to the tire shop, this is one job that's not worth the time struggling.
Love your content !!
This reminded me of when I worked in small semi truck repair shop where we didn't have a tire machine and had to change tired by hand.
Brings back memories to when my dad would throw premix into a campfire. I used to play around with a Suzuki 300 quad that was pretty fun. Midsized are amazing!
It's kinda awesome you picked up on what the owner of the sandblasting shop said and decided to bring the Banshee along. That makes you good people.
Hell yea sabo. Just got home from work and cracked open a ice cold brewski and then I see you upload. Couldn’t have clicked any faster
Your uploads actally make it interesting to learn
Always watching your videos makes me want to go fix something on my LTR!
Awesome job man.
I love the long videos when I’m not busy at work love to kill time watching sabo 🙌🏼
Am I the only one that hits the like button before the video starts!!?? Just because we know it’s going to be cool!!😎💪🇺🇸
The trash can and air compressor firing are my favorite attributes you do alot of extra stuff that makes your videos great and different from others
Great video, every time I watch your videos it’s gives me motivation to finish my Honda trx 400ex built!! 👍💯
Sometimes a ratchet strap around the outside helps put consistent pressure along the bead but you got it 💪
NVM I spoke to soon 😅
The Lakota is an underrated bike
I agree with that
That's crazy, I've yet to order tires. I will be at some point. But I been using the RM link. Gotta get me an atv stand, oem banshee fenders, tires, always something getting ordered. My voodoo hoody is sick dude. I get so many comments on it!! Always trying to help the channel. Struggle deff was real in this vid lol 😂
Dude thank you for getting the Voodoo hoodie and for using my link, that really does help out a lot.
Really gotta have air allready going into the tire when you do the ether trick. Helps it explode better, and if it does seal for a second it helps keep it that way.
MECHANIC TIP--
Cut a couple lengths of 2x4 or something and pull the beads apart.
Another banger bro. I really needed an atv video and here one is. Love what you do man.
Damn I got excited as hell.. thought it was a blaster update lol
Thank you again for entertaining me for 40 minutes ❤

Love the tire tutorial lmfao classic I’ve done it a few times and for people who haven’t done it it’s not as easy as it looks
28:28 is the hardest I've laughed from UA-cam in awhile. Love it Sabo!

I hope everyone is having a good new year so far!
Im glad im not the only one that gets his butt kicked by tire changes!🤣
Great video as always! Thank you!
Been waiting for another one of your videos to come out! Keep up the great work! Also building a blaster as your building yours!

Gluing the grip! LOL
You made my night that much better by uploading
OMG 😂this video had me LMFAO 😂great job mike, I’ve been riding quads lil over 20 years and I’ve done this 1 time and I said to myself never again would I do it. This last summer I got new front and rear paddles for my YFZ the shop I use by my house that knows me and my family he only charged me 40$ bucks to dismount the old tires and mount up all the new sand tires all up..
Love the vids always hyped for the next upload
my buddy installed tires on forklifts . here is a good tip for receiving squashed tires and opening them back up . find any size innertube that will fit inside the unmounted squashed new tires or old . inflate tube to spread the tire outwards as much as you can .put out in sun unless its winter. put somewhere warm in winter like next to your woodburner. he said it may take up to 24 hours.
Now this 9ne was entertaining just because I have been there. Yeah I was laughing
Been there doing a set of 10 ply 16 ×33 truck tires in freezing Temps met you a long time ago really enjoy watching your builds partial to grizzlys my self performs like a sport and works just ad good keep it up
I didn't know the ether trick until I watched the Raptor 700 rebuild lol that series made me a fan of your channel.
You're videos and whole channel just so sick 👏
Ya know what, the bead popping on was karma for the tire explosion edit. Gave me a good jump with earbuds in! Lmao
bro, I never rode a quad or dirt bike in my life. I'm a city boy. But I enjoy the hell out of your content!!
It helps to mix the ether, and helps keep the tire from coming right back off the bead.
for your trouble with the brake master cylinder, you have a fluid return hole in the master cylinder ( smallest of the two) and if that one is clogged , its the kind of symptoms that might happen , while changing the fluids, check to make sure that its clean
love your videos :)
I actually like these older ATVs vs the newer ones. They just look cooler....
They definitely have a unique look and style.
Always a great day when I get that notification for a new vid! 😊
In the future, put 50:50 dish washing liquid and water mix on the bead prior to the gas trick. The soap will allow you to slip it on the rim much more easily and when you gas trick it too. I use a bbq brush to apply it on the tire bead and a baby bottle to hold the mix.
Great to see this new video.👍
Really enjoy these videos. I don't own a quad, but I started looking for one - as a project. I noticed the scar on your left hand is still there. Wasn't that from the Polaris Predator build? (that was also an awesome video). Be safe.
I used the ratchet strap method on tires too 🤙🏽
I'm from the Poconos, I went to Pleasant Valley In Brodheadsville. its about 20 miles from Stroudsburg. Sweet Mike!
I’m thinking there blaster is going to take the cake in top quad!
I think Noahb is right. Anytime we did the ether trick we had air going in the tire at the same time. Great videos man! Keep up the good work
Literally dying for your uploads🤣
Thank you for the tips man! I've heard of tires being blown off the rim because there's no relief!
