Steven, or rather ‘Marc’ suffers from Disassociation Identity Disorder, or DID. They did a good job of portraying it so far, as it’s not unusual for the multiple personalities, or “Alters” to not remember what the others did, as memories do not transfer between personalities. That’s why some people with DID are misdiagnosed as sleep walkers or schizophrenics. People can have anywhere from 2 to dozens of personalities per person.
The personalities are each born from traumatic circumstances, as a way to cope with the situation they find themselves in. As it is easier to pretend what is happening to someone else than it is to you. Some can have alters that are childlike, formed when they were children and frozen in terms of mental age. Some people have older alters, fantasy alters (ghosts from attempted suicide, animal personalities from pretending to be animals to cope from trauma, etc) some people even have fictional characters as alters!
In this case, Marc is the Host Personality, while Steven is the more recently formed Alter.
The brain is incredible in the ways it will adapt and reshape itself to maintain its own sanity and protect you!

Plus he did say that Konshu goes after people with strong morality so he can manipulate. The Villain may have gotten twisted by everything he did in Konshu's name

I don't know if this spoiler or not, but, in the comic, Marc is dying in a khonsu sorta tomb, then khonsu show up to make a deal with Marc

The way he killed that fella at the end of this episode, without even judging him, leads me to think he wants more than to embody Ammit or become her avatar. If he did indeed kill without judgement Ammit may not look so kindly upon Harrow. Despite his "good works", per his own description even a blemish in your nature can result in a judgement of death, and I'm sure he's aware of that. It's fully possible that she doesn't give a shit, or that Harrow may have been able to judge him without the whole handhold ritual, but it's also possible he seeks Ammit for some greater plot. Then again, he walks on glass, which can't only be for performance. Suppose we'll see...

What's interesting is that the villain didn't even judge the guy who found the scarab; he just took the scarab and killed him.
I assume he did judge the guy who found the scarab, we just weren't close enough to see the scales moving up and down on his arm. He doesn't seem to kill people until after he judges them--of unless, like Steven/Marc, they're getting in the way of his mission.

@@moonwalk1031 from my understanding in ammits views she punishes those that make a bad choice in life even if small. So being homeless is considered a bad choice even though it person didn’t want to become homeless in the first place. So to harrow he sees this homeless person as someone not worthy to live despite not knowing or willing to know why the person became homeless. Hence its a cruel thing to judge ppl like which probably why Amit inst mentioned or known in the Egyptian pantheon. For Anubis as least he judges ppl by the weight of their heart of the overall things they done in their life up to their death.

@@dungeonmaster16 Ammit is a real god in the Egyptian pantheon. Or a real divine being at least. Not sure if she's a true god, but she's the monster that eats souls/the dead after Anubis judges them. I remember that much from mythology class.

The deal was about doing one last mission to let Marc no longer serve Khonshu, but it seems he’s being forced to continue serving him beyond that deal because he doesn’t want Layla going through the same thing. It seems regardless of whether you want to want to or not Khonshu will make you his avatar
There’s more evidence with this being right when the dude asked if he picked him because his mind was so easy to break or because it was already broken.

That freeze frame had me rolling! Honestly there's something fun about having a supernatural "hero" rather than one that's explained by cosmic power or technology.
Now that we know Marc is married, we can be pretty sure there is at least one other personality. That has to be the person who asked out the lady in the first episode. We know Steven didn't.
Even before we found out Marc was married I though there was another alter who asked that woman out, as Steven had no memory of it and it seems like an odd thing for Marc to do given that he is trying to hide himself from Steven.

I love seeing people be like "wow Khonshu is actually an asshole" because, like, he's a GOD, do you expect a god to be nice?
Given no other information (and many people watching this won't be overly familiar with the personalities of Egyptian g-ds), people do assume that any character opposing the bad guys is a good guy.

Personally I like the Steve and the Mr Knight character a lot more, because he is hilarious, especially when he uses accurate London street slang thinking he is cool. Marc is just a conventional superhero and the show will get predictable and less entertaining when he is just being normal superhero.

Actually in episode 1 the hound avoided all the objects as it bounced around the walls, I remember seeing it and thinking it was funny how it was respecting the “no touch” museum policy.
Watching Moon Knight is making me hyped for Blade ngl. And that shot of the jackal being spiked with the moon in the background is definitely an easter egg for Werewolf By Night.

I haven't read any comics so idk, but how did you determine Marc to be the host? It sounded to me like Marc had a different deceased body that got a 2nd chance at life by borrowing Steven's body

@@apolloaero he is the original in the comics. He became a mercenary because he was a violent person and needed a way to make money which is how he came to find Konshu. He was injured and Konshu saved him. I am assuming that due to the overwhelming stress and intense trauma of being a mercenary and Moon Knight, he developed Steven as his altar in which he can live without he burden of the things he has done/had to deal with.

Guys if you're new to moon knight do yourself a favor and look into the character after you finish with this season. I looked into the character and it ruined the experience of this show for me.

Edit: 16:41 I understand the frustration when Steven wasn't surrendering the body to Marc, but you also have to understand that Steven isn't just a personality, he's his own person. Why would he give Marc, a guy he not only just met, but found out about his past as a mercenary and fugitive ?? This scene was important to show that Steven can be his own hero, infact, he probably won't be needing/relying Marc most of the time when he gets to learn about his powers

@ 4:22 Steven tipped over shelving and then the dog grabbed the ceiling light and fucked it up avoiding the shelving. We're not seeing the whole story. There should be at a minimum scratch marks on the walls, ceiling, and stone flooring unless theres some fuckery happening
The deal Marc made with Kohnshu was in exchange for resurrecting him. So even though Layla is just his next "candidate", there's nothing saying Kohnshu can't bring her to the brink of death to coerce a deal out of her.
22:20 - The voice of Khonshu in the show is F. Murray Abraham. Marc/Steven are played by Oscar Isaac, Leyla is May Calamawy, and Arthur Harrow is played by Ethan Hawke. Really got an all-star cast for this one and it shows.
I get the feeling that Steven was created relatively recently, since Marc last saw Layla, which would be about two months ago.
Something I missed before, but the postcards Steven has been getting from his "mom" are for sale at the museum. He also gets her voicemail when ever he calls her.

I feel like Layla might be working with Harrow, notice how she brought the scarab to him, making her seem like she's dumb af for that but that scene where they just look at each other and she just leaves is so sketchy maybe she's helping him because he has something on her, and the way she was so pushy about Steven summoning the suit makes me think, if Steven is in suit form, Konshu dies as well like in ATLA if you die in the avatar state the Avatar is lost forever, and they referenced ATLA in the first episode

Yeah that's how I took Steven as well Sheera, definitely different from the comics but it seems like Marc either intentionally manifested this Steven personality as a "cover" and made him to be the things that he wife loved -- things that he wish he could be for her, or it was a cover identity and as the lines blurred more and more he subconsciously took on the meek traits that the "primary" wishes he had be it to relate more to Layla or since he had to leave to keep her safe it was his minds way of keeping her close to him.

God Oscar Issac is phenomenal in this show. This is some of the best acting in the entire MCU. Even through the very slight changes in his facial expressions and body language you can tell the very clear difference between Marc and Steven.
Also I feel so freaking bad for Steven, he really just wants to live a normal life without all this supernatural stuff, be a tour guide for a museum, meet a nice girl and settle down with her. And everyone thinks Peter Parker has the worst work/life balance in Marvel.
