Think the sequel to Zombieland was okay, maybe not as entertaining as the first but a decent movie. If you are looking for films to review, might I suggest the original Smokey and the Bandit. Some great performances from Burt Reynold, Jackie Gleason, Sally Field, and Jerry Reed. Plus some great car chase and crashes from the era of real stunt action films. Also for a little comedy musical fun, you might enjoy The Blues Brothers with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. Equally fun car chases, great musical performances from some legends of music industry, and a very funny Carrie Fisher!

The "Evil Dead" series, which includes "Army Of Darkness", are cult classics. Humor with some gore. If I remember right,there's less of the graphic stuff in those movies.

4:02 You ask about the first zombie movie.. "White Zombie" (1932) is often cited as the first zombie film. However, the zombie film genre as we know it today originate in "Night of the Living Dead" (1968)..
As for "stories" more generally, however, the idea goes way back in time. The word "zombie" comes most directly from haitian folklore, in which context it means a corpse, reanimated through magic, for the purpose (I believe, though wikipedia does not mention it) of serving as a kind of slave.. Other than that, the idea of an "army" or horde of living deads, can be traced as far back as to clay tablets from ancient mesopotamia.. Which is just to say it goes AT LEAST as far back as that. Whatever other stories might have been told before then, that we just don't know about.

Fun Fact: Patrick Swayze was offered a cameo role as a zombie before his cancer diagnosis. His scene would have parodied other Patrick Swayze movies like "Ghost" and "Dirty Dancing". Zombie cameo roles were also offered to Joe Pesci, Mark Hamill, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Bacon, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Matthew McConaughey.

While the idea of zombies has been around for a while the 60's movie "Night of the Living Dead" is considered the father of the modern zombie genre. Also as Elvis fans you should give Zombieland: Double Tap a watch since there are serious Elvis references.

It's a comedy very much in the same vein as Zombieland, but from a British perspective. It is also the first movie in the Cornetto Trilogy which is worth a watch.

I remember finding one in my dads apartment went I went back to see him that had been there since I had moved out 2-3 years ago. One to always try new things, it didn't taste like a twinkie anymore, but it hadn't gone bad either.
If you are just looking for something, and most food is going to go bad unless you are hunting, there is worst then the highly processed twinkie w/more additives then actual food.

I believe 1st zombie movie was the 1968's "Night of the Living Dead" directed by legendary director, George A Romero. It was filmed in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Romero stepped in for iconic Fred Rogers of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood while Fred recovered from surgery early in his career.

Man, I remember watching this movie alone and absolutely loving it. My friend came around an hour later and I told him I've watched it and loved it, and asked him if he wants to see it. He said sure, but wouldn't it be dumb for me to watch it again so soon? I said it was fine with me. After we've seen it he turned to me and said, "I see now why you wanted to see it again, I could watch it again right now" :D A great move, one of my favorites.

The first modern zombie story was actually in the original French language Smurf books.
The first living dead movie was the George Romero 1968 classic "Night Of The Living Dead"
The first zombie movie was the 1932's "White Zombie".
The reason i make the distinction is that the idea that we have of zombies is from NOTLD and not the White Zombie ones.
Also, in the "Night..." they only eat brains (that stayed for a long time until they went full cannibals), hence the joke of zombies saying "braaiinns".
Actually Return of the Living Dead is the source of zombies eating brains. The Romero films just had zombies eating people, all of people. John A. Russo (Romero's partner on Night) went off to make his own films when he didn't like what George Romero was doing with the films. He started the zombies eating only brains trope. I prefer the Romero films.

Such a great horror comedy. Woody Harrelson is awesome as alway. I’m not a big fan of Jesse Eisenburg but he was good in this. I gotta say ladies, the BEST horror comedy of all time is “Return of the Living Dead” from 1985. Please consider it. You won’t regret it.
I think the first zombie film was the 1932 film, White Zombie but it is definitely not like the flesh eating zombies that we are use too. I think the first flesh eating zombie film, is George A Romero's 1968 Night of the Living Dead.
The first zombie movie is 1969’s “Night of the Living Dead”.
People will credit Romero’s night of the living dead (1960’s) as the first zombie movie where it features people coming back to the dead and eating the living. Before then, people coming back from the dead was always black magic or voodu related. But it was a movie from the 30’s called White Zombie that first introduced the word zombie to films.

Instead, the distinction of being the first zombie movie is usually awarded to Victor Halperin's 1932 opus, White Zombie. Starring Bela Lugosi, this film defined the basic parameters of 'zombieness' which would be in place prior to Romero's appearance on the scene.

If you haven't seen it, 28 Days Later is a beautiful example of a zombie movie.
First modern zombie film that established the genre was probably George Romero’s films. But “restless”/“unquiet” dead have been tropes in going back to Chinese “hopping” corpses, Lovecraft’s Re-animator, the 19th century, Mary Shelley, and very probably even much earlier than that since to gothic fiction, no?

Dawn of the Dead (1978 original version). They fit some humor into the movie, but not nearly as much as Zombieland. Dawn of the Dead is my favorite, and was by George A. Romero. He is probably single-handedly responsible for making zombie movies "a thing". They existed before, but he made them popular. In that one, just remember, the blood is just tempera paint. Watching this would not fit in your Summer of Fun, but it would fill in some movie history. Night of the Dead (1968) was also Romero, but there is certainly no fun in that one.

Okay, I have a story involving this movie. I spent my Thanksgiving 2010 with my family at my Aunt and Uncle’s house in Mt. Pleasant, SC. After dinner, my uncle was telling a story from Halloween to my Mom, another Aunt of mine, her son, her two daughters, and myself. He explained that he was on treat duty. As he went to give a group of kids candy, he looks at their chaperone who’s standing on the sidewalk. As he’s doing so, he starts asking himself,”That guy looks so familiar.” After some thought, he thinks,”Wait, is that Bill Murray?” Murray has ownership in the Charleston Riverdogs, the local baseball team, and does a number of appearances at games for promotional events. Apparently, he has/had a house just down the street from them.
Well, I popped. My mom popped. My other aunt popped. Her two daughters popped. Then…..there was….The Boy. As we’re losing it at the thought of Bill Murray chaperoning kids on Halloween, he’s looking around and asking,”Who’s Bill Murray?” We’re all stunned. So, we’re spouting off movie titles like “Ghostbusters”, “Stripes”, and “Caddyshack” but he still has no clue. After realizing his age, I bring up “Groundhog Day” which still doesn’t register. That’s when I thought,”I’ve never hit a kid before.” That’s when I realized I went through a real life recreation of the scene here at Bill Murray’s house.
It gets better though. I was working as a referee for independent wrestling and one of the guys, who now works for IMPACT Wrestling, did shows with was a huge fan of the movie. So, I knew he’d get a kick out of this. When I mentioned Bill Murray, he popped. I finished the story and his comment was,”Hey, you ever seen Zombieland?” I looked at him with confusion as I said,”Yeah. Why do you think I told you this story?” After a few moments, he looked at me and said,”Oh, yeah.”
This is one of my favorite zombie movies and I love all the classics but this one is up there. The second zombie land is hilarious also and they’re all in it.

No, the fake Hummer (they are a Chevy Tahoe base with an overly large body on it) is a poor choice since they get terrible gas mileage, at 11 to 12 MPG. If I recall, the most of the movie was shot in Georgia.

This movie sort of came out from left field at the time (early 2000's). The time of when horror movies were peaking within the supernatural era phase of the genre. Definitely a well warranted change up which leads one to believe that we need more quality horror comedies out there!
Believe Night of the Living Dead (1968 B&W Version) was the first full length feature zombie film. Love the 90's remake as well starring Patricia Tallman (Star Trek) and Tony Todd (Candyman). Classic campy horror right there, which has unfortunately become a lost forgotten relic to the times.

I saw this film in theaters, It's one of my favorite zombie films, and yes, the sequel is worth watching. Victor Halpern's "White Zombie" staring Bela Lugosi in 1932 defined the basic parameters fof "zombieness". Night of the living Dead was my first ever zombie movie, and probably is the more well know zombie movies of all time, released in1968 (George A. Romero 1968-1985)!

Zombieland 2 is definitely worth a watch.
So, this was supposed to be a TV series, but the executives nixed it. So they changed the script, added the humor, and made it a movie. Then, about a week later, The Walking Dead came out. Anyway, great reaction as always. I think you'll like second movie "Double Tap". And I believe there's a third in the works, bur I'm not sure.
I will admit I did watch The Walking Dead up until Andrew Lincoln left the show, but not into the zombie genre normally, but I did have fun with this movie with the humor poking at zombie tropes 😂 Woody is awesome in almost any comedy he does .. Not a big fan of Eisenberg, but did an admirable job and the ladies were fantastic especially Emma Stone.

First zombie movie? I believe it is The Last Man alive, released in 1964 and starring Vincent Price. It would be later remade with Charlton Heston and called The Omega Man, and later with Will Smith and called I am Legend. The book that started it all is suppose to be I am Legend by writer, Richard Matheson published in 1954. Great review of a fun zombie comedy. Thanks FOL!

I used to keep anacondas, among other reptiles. I have trouble with movies like "Anaconda" because of the unrealistic presentation needed to make them scary.
Also interesting note due to Woody Harrelson being vegan, they had to come up with a way to make a "Twinkie" without any animal byproduct.
Plot twist: the amber heard zombie was actually what amber heard is like.

You should watch "An American Werewolf in London", from 1980, the first movie that mixes real horror with comedy. And the script was written in 1968, just imagine if it had been made back then
Zombieland is more of a coming of age comedy film, set in the Zombie apocalypse.

I think George a. Romero started zombie genre with night of the living dead. A good zombie series is return of the living dead or for tv, walking dead

ANOTHER GOOD ONE IS SILVER STREAK WITH GENE WILDER AND RICHARD PRYOR , A GREAT MOVIE
I originally didn't want to see this back in the day. Don't know why, maybe a zombie comedy didn't appeal to me. Finally saw it like 5 years ago on my nephew's recommendation & really liked it. And I've seen it like 4 or 5 times since. Jesse Eisenberg is funny as hell, Emma Stone is beautiful here and great acting all around. 2 was also good, but not as good as the original. There is one character change (Little Rock), but the rest of the cast is the same
