As a city fan. George was a true genius and if your a fan of football fan he was probably the reason why. Even us bitter old blues recognise brilliance. Nice one george❤️💙
I saw him play a number of times, the last time for Jobs. Even after a few pints he was the best player on the field. He was certainly one of the best players I ever saw. Cruijff, Best and Pele the best 3 I ever saw.
George Best You are a Fantastic Football player You are the Best George Best Good bye the Belfast boy World legend Maradona Cruyff Pele George Best is the Best
Thomas russell it is funny to hear george talk like that. But at the same time sad, to me a thinck hes the greatest player ever. But all that joking about being constanly drunck just takes a great deal of that greatness he once was away. For exampal i said to a boy age 33 about 2 years ago 'have you ever saw much of george best playing football you need to see this guy' and he said to me 'george best is that him that was always drunck? And was he not always drunck when he played as well' i said 'no thats not true ye cant play at that level or even amature level if your drunck. Who told you all this crap' a said to him. He said ' i have saw clips of him on tv and hes goals were brilliant' and a said 'so do you believe he could play like that drunck? And lob a goal keeper with two men on the goal line. Exhibiting sublime execution guaged to the very inch' and the boy said 'no chance that lob over pat jeninngs was just awe some' i said 'back then and even today players wouldnt have thought about it let alone being able to do it'
Tavy@ when george played with hibs in 1979 the time charlie was talking about, he played against rangers to and on an icy heavy wet pitch and george just controled the game with wee moves here and there but enough to open up rangers defence and he made them look stupid. He never really ran, as he was past his best. I loved the way some one played a high ball and george seemend to jump 2 feet of the ground and brought it down with his chest then turnend and chipped one of the best passes i have ever seen over two or 3 rangers players and right onto arthur duncans foot then arthur ran to the bye line and crossed it in for big tony higgins to score, it was sheer genius how he did it. Then in the middle of park george had the ball and went to slowly go one way with dereck johnstone behind him then he just slowly went the other way and went round and past dereck johnstone becouse this is what separates the genius from the nomads, that icy heavy wet frozen pitch was perfect for a 33 year old well past his best, george best. Then dereck johnstone brought george down becouse he just made it look so easy to beat him even at that age and on a park like that. Then george picked the ball up and handed dereck johnstone the ball and shouting "here here, just take it if you want it that bad you dont have to keep kicking me for it" the fat man was raging as the crowd laughed. Then as georg was about to take a corner all of a sudden rangers started throwing empty cans of lager at him, so george picked one up and pretended to drinck from it. Once again the fans roared with laughter as if to say what you meant to do with a genius like him, even when you show him disrespect he just throws it back at you in other ways that you have to admire him. It was down to best hibs beat rangers 2-1 that day. What did the rangers players and fans expect. This was the greatest player in the world ten years earlier. George had done it all and seen it all. In the hardest leauge in the world in 1968. What ever those rangers fans did to him george was always going to take the piss out of them as well. And there lucky they didnt get the 23 year old best, the rangers fans would have stayed to the end even if best beat them 6-0 just to watch him alone do his tricks and nutmegs. They know by half time a tank wouldnt stop best, and they know they might never see him again. Rip george
I think one of the most difficult things in life when you are young, is to be handsome, tallented, famous and rich..! It's sometimes too much for such a unexperience man, that he became alcoholic..
Beautiful player. It's not just about what you do, but how you move. The greatest players (in no particular order) Pele, Best, Cruyff, Maradona, Beckenbauer, Messi, move differently. Like great musicians, even with the sound turned down, show poetry in their individual technique. Also, the above named players never really fitted into any system, though they excelled in teams. They all had animal-like capacity to explode into electrifying action - watch Best running cross field from left to right, hair shimmering, to whip a right foot shot in off the opposite post, Cruyff tearing down the wing & also for his wonder goal volley flying through the air, Pele from mid half bounding through opposition, Messi weaving slalom magic cutting infield from deep, Maradona poised to beat half a dozen terrified looking Flemish, & Beckenbauer ghosting from his own to opponents penalty box ... Real art. Messi was well behaved, but I'd like to see micro managing Gladioli wilt in the presence of particularly Best, Maradona & Cruyff. On a different level, like Ali & Jordan ... Wonderful
what killed George was the united drinking culture Alex Ferguson said when he first moved to united he said all the players was piss heads and he pretty much sold most of the team it was ether is rules or you out . George was 17 very shy and drink was his crutch. And it was all because of united drinking culture at the time

I sold George a car back in the day .

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP PLAYER
On your comment Charley why mention Georgie was a Protestant real fan's don't give a shit about a man's religious beliefs.!!!
Because he's a bitter wee man and still is to this day can't help himself
He was making a point that even a devoutly catholic club at a time of rampant sectarianism appreciated his quality
he killed himself also he knew put his life in d.........
😂😂
Victor Martindale even better 👌
Maradona good, Pele great, George Best!
