I love how Bud, finds himself after learning the seriousness of life after Molly, ran away. God Bless, Kevin Costner, he sure has done a lot for our country.
"To be honest the last [4 years] have felt like a weird dream. What was once kind of funny isn't anymore...scared the hell outta America. I know the world is watching, maybe even laughing, people on my own TV saying that America somehow deserves this moment."
What is it about Kevin costner...any film he decides to make just feels right..I truly believe in his craft he just can play anyone and this movie the simple man just being..but the speech at the end he truly pulls off the sincere apology he makes about the kind of life he led..very underrated as I adored this film..thanks Mr Costner your always entertaining me I look foward to your latest western..who can resist a great Western😃❤❤
If I were in his situation I suppose I would have just given it to whichever candidate had won the national popular vote. They were tied in his state but I don't remember if they mentioned nationally. That wouldn't have made as interesting a movie though.
such a touching scene believe it or not at first i did not believe in him on his decisions, I find him as a joke and right now I really admire Bud he is an inspiration because he is able to help those in need and question the candidates how they are able to make change for this country for the better that would benefit all of us! Best ending scenes Ever in movies! Love this Movie!
This is the right ending imho. Because the point of the movie is the lessons all learnt in that 10 days. The candidates managed to keep their integrity, and Bud finally stepped up and took ownership of his civic duty.
Came into the world alone with nothing; and we will leave with only quickly fading memories. I thought you were cool. What happened? Let's hear people join in with you and confess. It's not easy being alone.
This is how debates should be run. Not some media pundit asking questions that are clearly based on their own personal opinions and ideologies but questions from the very people they're supposed to be speaking on behalf of
A bit of a quirky comedy.. not great, but fun enough.. was half-watching it while talking with a friend.. then this scene came along, and it just sucked me right in.. great commentary on the circus that voting has become, and also about taking personal responsibility.. democracy goes way beyond the privilege of voting.. it's about actively doing what you can to make this world a better place.. and voting is pretty much the smallest thing you can do to contribute to that goal
I LOVE THE LAST PART HOW THE PRESIDENT ATTEMPTS TO ANSWER BUDS QUESTION.. AND HE TALKS AROUND IT WITH RHETORIC WITH NO STRAIGHT ANSWER! POLITICAL BULLSHIT..IN REALITY AND MOVIES.
If there's a tie in the electoral collage count, the president is decided by the house of representatives. However this is a tie within in a state, and it seems to be harder to find out what exactly happens in this case. According to www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/resolving-tied-elections.aspx , in New Mexico (I think that's the state in the movie), a race for a legislative office would be called "by lot". (This could be a coin flip, technically it would be a method chosen by a committee.) The rule applies to house and senate races, but I'm not completely sure it applies to the presidential race.
If I had been in the same position that guy was in that movie, I would have voted for a third candidate, therefore causing the first absolute tie in the history of the elections, causing either for one of the electorate college guys to vote AGAINST the candidate he/she is supposed to, best case scenario, or causing a constitutional crisis requiring a new election or a re-write of the constitution about elections.
That is the premise. New Mexico is a dead tie but Mr. Johnson's vote didn't count due to a machine error and both candidates are like 4 electoral votes away from winning so he is the deciding vote due to that
think this pretty much applies to today in america. How can i bust my ass every day and barely scrape by while others suck on well fair and work as little as possable so they still get thier assistance and can afford thier pot on the side
The point is not which man he votes for. The point is that he voted. That he finally gets it. That he woke up.
I watched the movie specifically to see who he voted for.
It's such a sappy, sanctimonious view of the American public...
@@latenightlogic you’re a fool
Waking up would be to realize that the parties are bought and paid for by the elite and serve the elite

If you don't cry from this then your not human at all.
one of the best written speeches ever made

Let's really savor these days, when American politics wasn't such a freakshow.
I partially agree but is this movie really the best example of that?
@@jaredlam7897 Haha for real
The speaches that are needed now
Great movie, quite underappreciated in my opinion :)
Been looking for this movie for yeeeears!!! Today Feb 5, 2022 finally found it.
If I were in his situation I suppose I would have just given it to whichever candidate had won the national popular vote. They were tied in his state but I don't remember if they mentioned nationally. That wouldn't have made as interesting a movie though.
i watched this movie 2 years ago in a gov class, the only things i remember are the hilarious abortion commercial and this speech
Who came here after watching the Trump-Biden debate
The 1st debate of 2020 brought me here.
Last debate of 2024 brought me here

I'd like to hear the answer to that question.
I bet Bernie Sanders probably has a good answer for this one, AND a solution

Cute movie 🍿, impossible ever in real life

Actually he's too hard on himself. He worked in factory. Nowt wrong with that.

One problem: Everyone in the USA will know who he voted for.
you're right you are not human at all. You completely missed the point of a heart-touching movie.
Is that the end of the movie it was 4am and i fell asleep

oh god this movie is so american
You see I have never smoked cigarettes as a habit, tried them once or twice 40 years ago!
"America needs a big thinker to get in front of our problems".
Not the former vice president.
what if he votes third party?
I agree with Kevin Costner. If America is the Richest country on the planet how come 99 percent of us cannot afford to live here
What if he voted third party

Persona Ohnlyne
That would send the election to the House of Representatives
LOL - you idiot. The remedy for that is already in the constitution and had been used in the 1800 election.
The only irritating thing about this speech is the notion that you can't drink and drift your way into the presidency.
We are more divided than we ever have been. It's sad.
cause the 1% has taken all your money
Wow this film would be a smash hit right now
That part when he talks about a leader they believe in
That is Trump
Kevin Costner for President for 2025
This could never happen with the Electoral College I highly doubt it unless one state was a dead tie
That is the premise. New Mexico is a dead tie but Mr. Johnson's vote didn't count due to a machine error and both candidates are like 4 electoral votes away from winning so he is the deciding vote due to that
So thanks a lot to all of the beer drinkers and smokers for getting in my way, and wrecking my life!
U wreck your own life...no one else can.
who did he ended voting for ?
me
He voted for Obama.
7 years later, but if I had to guess, I think he voted Andy (the sitting president). He just seemed to get along with him more.
Just ask for the truth of the people who made me to be a child instead of a 58 year old certified public accountant and Christian.
