I gained 2 destroyed servos from this tutorial 👍
This is cool but you didn’t explain how you control it with the esc. Maybe I’m stupid but it would have helped me out bro.. now I’m lost 😂😂🤷🏼♂️
Thanks man. Already made 2 from old electronics. Used a sewing thingy for the spool. Looking forward for more uploads.
There is lots of ways to get it done and this is
a good one, well done
Right on brother! Who knew it was that easy! Great info for us starting out!👊
Exactly what I was looking for.
Many thanks.
"Dont pinch yourself or youll bleed" 😂😂
My only addition to this is to use a ratchet system like I did if you don't have a reverse or a way to use crawler mode.
My thoughts.
Thanks brother! Awesome input! I really like the sewing bobbin idea.
Nice. Thanks for that info. Very helpful
NC MOUNTAINS. Looking in to doing that sometime. 👍✔
💯👍💯
Great content also maybe a video on using a servo ad the control board for a winch, super simple and basically free.
David Spinney yeah I briefly mentioned using the board but personally I’ve had really bad luck doing that. Many others that run with me have the same issue with drifting, plus most of us run these things on 3S off the 1060 esc.
@@ExocagedRC Exactly, I just picked up another 1060 just for this purpose. Those and the 1080's are my go to. Another great video and thanks for getting back. Some guys I dont think even read the comments let alone get back to use. Have a good day.
Wicked! We like recycling. Good video man.
Hey that's pretty darn cool.
I’m not the smartest chap here being newbie to this.
Can you please put up a pick or new vid of this fully set up on car where all the wires go how you did it all.
👊😀
I've shown servo winches in several vehicles, I use a 1060 ESC as winch controller and power straight from the main battery
@@ExocagedRC
Is the 2 esc wired into the 1 receiver.
Nice video dude.! Very helpful.
Curious what cable do you suggest?
Followed your guide on making servo winch and it’s working great. Thanks.
thanks for the vid! i am looking into making a vinch servo
Great video dude, hi from Costa Rica
Very interesting thanks!
I use old servos potentiometers to control my led lights on the third channel 🤫
Cool! But how exactly?
panic mike look at a potentiometer as a light dimmer. When it’s centered it’s ready to receive a signal at standby and when it’s not centered its executing it’s given command of turning something left and right ie: servo motor. Well I take the potentiometer and I connect to a receiver via the standard connectors with the red white and black wire. Then I take the red and black wires that are exiting the potentiometer on the other side and I solder led lights to them, usually a string of amber red and white lights. The potentiometer acts as a signal recipient so you can turn your lights on and off via any spare channel. On my 3 or 4 chan radios it’s usually in the 3rd channel. But I have a surface radio by Hobao that has a rotory dial that oddly lets you set the lights to strobe, Dunn or turn off completely
@@SweatyHanes That's smart! So basically instead of using a led light Controller Switch on the receiver your using just one servo potentiometer? The center pin of the potentiometer is the signal so you solder the white wire and connect to receivers x ch. signal center pin right? Then black and red go to left and right pin of potentiometer and connect to receivers x ch. positive and negative pins and then you solder leds on left and right pins of potentiometer ? Does the potentiometer need to be centerd to turn lights on and off from transmitter or it needs to be turn left or right? Am a little confused.. Will it operate 4 standard 5mm bright leds? Or am i going to short and fry the receiver by doing this?
Awesome!
I see other built and they use the control board out of the servo and they use channel from recieve to control ...what do you think of this method?...I look forward to your channel...keep up the great content...
Tom Andrews I’ve done that before, the issue is the servo boards have a very tight neutral band width and drifting so the result, the line slowly spools out or in while driving causing issues. The other reason I do them this way is so I can run them on 2S or 3S power, using the servo board from the receiver method limits you to whatever the receiver can handle. I compete a lot and when winching I want fast and strong, slow takes too long when seconds count.
@@ExocagedRC Thanks I have several old servos and have been thinking of doing this
Awesome stuff bro, ive gotta try this, thanks for sharing
How is the servo actually connected to the ESC to run forward and reverse? And is it connected to an AUX channel on the receiver, guessing 3 position switch would be best?
arcterus01 the esc’s I showed are what the servo connects to, they connect to the receiver and get power straight from the battery. I use the JST connectors like you see here, the small red ones. Yes a 3pos momentary is best to control these.
Love to get mine working. Servo works when connected to power but using a winch on a drone. Not sure how to setup my signal to the esc. Have it connected on ch5 which is controlled by a slider switch on a Taranis X9D transmitter.. please help 🙏
Awesome mod!
Just watching this and was thinking.... I remember you tuned some of your trucks suspension using rubber bands and later the special straps from the company that makes the kinetic energy winches. You use the straps to limit the travel and aid with the centre of gravity but the downside of that is that you lose travel and articulation. I wonder if you could somehow hook up a winch servo to those limit straps so that you could have the best of both worlds just with a flick of a switch?
Muy bueno y muy bien explicado, gracias.
Awesome tutorial, Thanks
So does anyone have a winch setup for the scx24 or just the 1/24th scale wimch
The hexfly is the 1060.... you have it literally right next to it lol
Yeah. Many rebrands are the 1060
So esc out of a 1/16 slash(xl2.5)? I don't remember if it would drag brake like the bigger ones. If not I guess I will use the Dynamite 1060......
I have some Amazon waterproof servos that I am using for my RC sailboat. Can I just hook this up to my receiver without an ESC? I don't need speed control, just forward and backward.
you'll still need a way to control it. depending on funds, the 99micro servo winch is plug and play plus its small and can pull 22lbs.
@@ExocagedRC These servos can pull 25 Kg. Some people said I don't need an ESC but the speed will stay constant which is ok.
I’m running a GT5 and fusion 1800.
Can I just plug into Chanel 4 and be good?
Esc for winch, plug in receiver on any channel?
Do I understand that you have taken the circuit baords out altogether and just use the motor.?
Yes
I did this procedure on my servo, and when I plugged it into my receiver it kept spinning quite fast and the control inputs from my transmitter didn't do anything. What should I do?
you have to use an esc or winch controller to control it. look up my video on using a hobbywing 1060 as a winch controller
A bit new to this so please pardon the ignorance - In order to wire this up, you need to use a separate ESC?
A separate esc like I use or a winch controller. So yeah you’ll need a controller of some sort.
Arrma senton 4x4 comes with a 360 servo
Calyn G really? So it can do a full 360 turn?
Yessir
The Traxxas seems (sounds) like the fastest of the bunch. Might just be the sound but it would be nice to find a fast one.
Baxrok2 use any high speed servo and run it on 3S from an esc. I also use the Solar D771 and it’s walking speed fast on 3S. It’s a 23spline so finding a nice spool takes a bit more looking.
@@ExocagedRC Hell, walking speed fast is good enough for me. Thanks!
How can they be hooked up to a 3rd channel on a transmitter that has a forward, neutral, reverse switch for the 3rd channel?
Many radios have settings that can do 3 position switches. The one I use is a Hacked 8ch Flysky GT3c and it has momentary which works great. You’ll have to figure out how to do it with your radio.
Hello 👋. I know it’s been some years since this was posted, but how’s the winches holding up?
I recently just made one following ur vid and it works awesome. I used mini esc. Thx so much for the video 🤙
They’re still out there but I haven’t made them in years.
@@ExocagedRC ok cool. Preciate the response. I plan on making more servo winches for my other rigs
So how do we controll it with a 3ch remote?
But how does it free spool / lock?
Can you power this off the truck battery by soldering a jst in with the main esc? So I dont have to run 2 batteries?
Zachary Perry the best way, also the way I do it, Is to use a jst off the battery plug at the esc to power either a 1060 esc or another winch controller to control the servo winch
@@ExocagedRC will I have to pull the red wire off that goes to the reciever wiring it up that way?
Zachary Perry yep
@@ExocagedRC thanks for your help keep up the good informative vids there awsome
I think 40 inch I'll measure
Doesn’t look to easy to me.I will just buy a retractable cord winch
