tbf this particular game was pretty awful. They should have made something better.
the franchise was mostly successful in the US.
Twisted Metal 3, 4, Small Brawl and head on (PS2 Release) were not released outside the US so it looks like the franchise might be somewhat risky for sony to invest in.

My biggest issue with this game was the lack of dlc there was so much potential to bring in old cars and character stories
Well back in those times it wasn’t a common thing for games to have dlc, atleast not in the same sense that we usually just download it. Although I prefer the dlc to be merely given as a reward for paying for the game.
This game could've used some extra months in the oven...

The game has a small budget and the developers only wanted it to be a small multiplayer game. Sony wanted a story mode and which they tried to do but couldn't in such short time which made the game a mess.

It's a shame Twister didn't make it into this game. That was always my favorite car to use.
Twisters signature move was the special tornado 👌, and the F1 car is one of the unique vehicles in the franchise. She is like one if those light armor but fast AF agility in those mmo rpg games

I saw that Twister model many times in the past but I had no idea Yellow Jacket and Crazy 8 were even planned for this game. TM Black characters as DLC for TM2012 would have been such a fantastic addition.
Imagine a triple crossover between Twisted Metal, Rogue Trip and Vigilante 8.. Now that would be a dream come true.
I would kill to see a Rogue Trip remaster.

@@PAINNN666 nope road trip was used to force Sony to give that team the ownership of twisted metal, by refusing to work on the next game unless they got some sort of ownership over the franchise they were forced to get a new team to work on twisted metal 3. Twisted metal 3 is terrible but it was launched to take away the sales from road trip and secure twisted metal as the dominant car combat game (which still is to this day despite there being car combat game regarded as mainstream)

Estranged business decisions and mismanagenent lead to this. Twisted Metal has had this unusual property of being highly ambitious to the point of escaping budget and time scope. TMB and TMB2 HC (of which was newground for TM) had clearly unfinished or piecemeal aspects to it. Jaffe or at least Sony apparently is hammerheading this franchise into a show of sorts to swell the budget for future releases of games using the PlayStation Productions line. I fear if the TM show fails to get away from preproduction or fails commercially this could spell the end of the car combat genre. I have great hopes that Netflix or others will provide a net profit leading to a new generation of Twisted Metal games.

Are you talking about how, in Twisted Metal: Black, the unlockable characters' stories came out shorter? Like how Axel or Cage doesn't have a beginning cutscene, or a middle cutscene after fighting Minion?
@@ejm1225 Yes. This is due to the Preview Disc having entries X**A/B/C (the asterix being a number) correlating to the unlockables but not in the retail, suggesting a likely script was made for them. They also seem rather rudimentary in the animation department, comparatively so.

@@agent8117 The Twisted Metal TV isn't an part of the elements of Twisted Metal. But if it's going to be, it'll be improvement. That doesn't exactly bode well for a series known for being a game, not a film/tv series.
It's like everytime jaffe has a good idea, they must think "naw it wouldn't be good enough" AND THEN WHEN WE SEE WHAT THEY LEFT OUT AND WE SIT THERE LIKE "WHY?! WHY MUST YOU LEAVE SOMETHING SO BEAUTIFUL". like when harbor city got cancelled they're was so much left that could've been completed in atleast a few more months. Then there was that time they didn't bring back minion for twisted metal head on and instead gave us cousin eddy. Which was just a terrible decision they should've atleast thought about dark side replacing him. I just wish that we got to see dlc for this game because I think the people that have played 2012 and loved it would've bought the cars. I would have loved to see mr.slam have an appearance in this game. Or all the originals from the first 2, it would've been amazing to see thumper .specter, and mr slam armored up. It would've been amazing to see how they would look in reality.
I think the one thing I Love most about the Crazy 8 here is that its machine guns aren't miniguns but maxim machine guns. Something about it really fits with the overall design of the vehicle you know?
Absolutely, and they could be a good fit for Yellow Jacket too. I think machine guns should be different depending in the car, it would make them look better.

Afaik TMB:2 and a sequel for Rogue Trip were also planned, but both of these sequels got cancelled too.. Seriously what's with these awesome games being cancelled out of nowhere?
Is Sony afraid of showing way too much violence in a game or something? Not that the game is THAT violent of course. It's like they did this on purpose imo.
@@NinjaXFiles Sony is a weird beast. Sometimes they cancel or censor games out of fear that there will be a backlash, rather than due to poor sales. You'd think money would be the first priority for a company as big, but that's not what their actions are telling us. Can't blame them for being too cautious in this day and age, though.

Hammerhead With SuperRam Special (like Warthog)
Auger with Turbo Driller Special (dashes forward and drills opponent) and Driller Missile (shoots out Driller at single opponent, if you are skilled enough you can drill through one opponent and hit another for more damage)
Viper/Grasshopper with Jump Ram Special and Earthquake alternate Special
Classic Warthog with the Classic Patriot Missile Special
Thumper with Flamethrower special and Soundwave Alternate Special (like in TM3)
Classic Outlaw (TM1 2 & 3) with Crowd Control Special (targets up to 4 opponents in front of vehicle) and classic OmniTaser Alternate Special (targets multiple enemies around vehicle)
Nice, although they would probably never use Auger as after Twisted Metal 4, David Jaffe and team who made the games after refrained from using any vehicles introduced in the two games made by 989 Studios).

According to David Jaffe, a model for Pit Viper was created for Twisted Metal (2012) but was cut from the final game.

I think they were just working on Pit Viper, Thumper, and Spectre right before all dlc got cancelled. Twister, Crazy 8 and Yellow Jacket were so close to being finished and they were in middle of working on Mr Slam too
It was also planned for TM2 as well but got replaced with Grasshopper. I also heard the car was planned to appear in TM: Harbor City, but I don't know for sure. It's kinda sad Pit Viper never got to appear again, it was a cool car.

The deadline for this game really killed it, if the team had more time to finish what was left out .stories, game modes, vehicles. This game would have been better and overall great sales. Its obvious they rushed this game out. 👎
True. They should have gotten more time, as well as maybe moved production to the Playstation 4.
The problem was that they were planning to make this game as early back as 2007 and there were rumors on the net that TM was in fact coming to ps3 and the announcement eventually came in 2010 and the game was already delayed and took too long to be made as it was but yes I agree, they should've just waited another year and released it more fleshed out.
Amazing recreation of these DLC vehicles missed Palerider Pit Viper and Mr.Slam but i wished so badly for add ons for this game and wondered how they would perform and what they would do
Spectre was also cut from the game.

Turning spectre into kamikaze, because the developers think that a fast car with a ghost missile would be to op, so they went with a flamethrower. Yet again look at sweet tooth. he has heavy armor and the same special that spectre has, and he can fly. Tell me thats not broken. I would love to see him and the other fan requested cars into this game.
It's a shame these cars were cut, Crazy 8 looks pretty badass here.

I’m surprised Mr.Slam’s 2012 model isn’t here. Yes, Mr.Slam was gonna be in Twisted Metal 2012, but was cut from the final game. Go on the twisted metal wiki on Mr.Slam on the very bottom. The model is right there.
I believe the other three planned dlc were Spectre, Thumper and Pit Viper. No evidence on this since they never made the designs for them. Shame we couldn't get Twister, Crazy 8 and Yellow Jacket since they were almost finished
Nice to find my favourite song from Carmageddon here too. Both games are so underrated in the mainstream, the only reason I never played TM was because I couldn't justify buying a console for one game. Would've loved to see it on PC like Carma and maybe even a collab between the two series since they are so similar.
Aw man Twister and Crazy 8 looked so damn cool, a shame they never got released. BTW, I noticed that Crazy 8 has dual mounted Maxim Machine Guns which fit its vintage appearance perfectly, such neat detail.
Canceled DLC killed this game. I had it after almost a year and no news for DLC, the Twisted metal online players scattered and went to online shooters. Sad story the DLC couldve actually saved and preserved this game for years

Sony hasnt been sony in a very long time. they don't even care if a game sells well anymore. if a game doesn't meet a certain metacritic score they deem it a failure and don't give it a sequel.
Where is MR.SLAM? And sad that it was cancelled it would be more fun because junkyard dog hate taxi's that's gonna be yellow jacket and yeah i forgot thumper and mr slam is gonna be in that DLC there design is insane!

Honestly I feel sad for Europe when it came to Twisted Metal Black they didn't get the full game like we did I mean they didn't have the cutscenes what type of Story based game can be a story without cutscenes?!

I hate to say it, but as awesome as it is seeing these.....it wouldn't have mattered much at all since the cars in 2012 Twisted Metal were completely divorced from the character campaigns, so unless they confirmed filming more Live Action FMV's to go with them, then all these amount too are slightly more recognizable cars to use over the generic ones the game also had since they had no attachment to the story mode
Mr. Slamm was even considered for the game too. Recall seeing some concept art for it somewhere.
Mr. Slam was in process on being worked on and they were just starting on Pit Viper, Thumper and Spectre. I believe Slam would have been after Twister, Crazy 8, and Yellow Jacket if they didn't cancel the whole dlc

You know. It's kinda sad to look at all these cars without their respective drivers. Without them they seem like lifeless shells of something they once were.

This is another big reason that a lot of people didn’t like twisted metal 2012 they should have given us DLC even if it was extra cars and stages they could have extended the story mode a little with more drivers even if it was just by themselves with no effect on the plot everything else you had to unclock in crazy ways they had better have learned from this and not do something similar to the new one that should be coming out next year.
Damn! I would loved Yellow Jacket in Twisted Metal 2012. He was one of my favorite vehicles in Twisted Metal (besides Sweettooth and Mr. Grimm) only because I liked the yellow checker board stripe Taxi cab since childhood. 🚕🚖

One thing that perplexes me is that if there were already designs made for Spectre and Pit Viper as DLCs then why can't I find any concept art of them anywhere? Surely intended DLCs that already have confirmed designs have to exist somewhere on the internet! Right?

Concerning the alternative specials it would have been likely that Twister would create localized Tornados that flung and damaged opponents like self-autonomous whirlwinds that catch speed demons not too aware of the battleground. The primary Special likely to have been the one from World Tour but as charge special, likely a three stage charge to off-set the overpowered nature.
It really needed DLC too.

i only know a bit of what happened to why they never came out. it's most likely the same reason the priest never got a story. wanting the dlc to be free and unlocked rather than buying it or just free in general. that and being rushed.

Only 6 or 7 were in the dlc. Twister, Crazy 8 and Yellow Jacket that were almost 100 percent finished, Mr Slam that they were working on. Thumper, Spectre, and Pit Viper were next, however were modded skins after dlc was canceled
