The Windigos match the power of the background vocals way more than the beetles. Seriously, if beetles could sing, they would not have that much power in their voice.
The umbrums could have also been used, but since the windigos are better known, it guess that's why they were used(but on to the reason of this comment, yeah, this is better than what the actual movie did)

And this is why I wish we had more of a chrysalis type story with him. Though Chrysalis is a strong villain I found that she wasn’t to strong without her swarm. She also had multiple episodes so I would wish we got at least maybe one or two more episodes of him before the crystal empires first appearance like a thing where they solve problems without realizing he caused them or something those might show his power or like an episode where he is hinted at even like a mural of power. Or we could have gotten a flashback from that potion that Twilight drank during season 4 that showed his true power. Sombra was intensely underused especially now that we can see how strong he actually is in the final season. This would’ve made an epic final battle and it really suits Sombra. Honestly I love Sombra as a villain
Yeah, the only demons in it were the bat-ghost things in the glass jar Rasputin held. Everything else during the song was bugs that would seem more at home in a Don Bluth Movie. Actually, scratch that - due to the main characters being humans, and the only mane animal characters being Bartok and Pooka (who doesn't speak) I forgot he actually made this.
This works really well, and I must say, the style and direction give Sombra more of a personality than what little was seen of him in the show. After all, he was more or less just this trope: Generic Doomsday Villain - A villain without coherent motivation, goals and plans, defined solely by the threat he poses.
The series finale will fix that and most likely make another character that's essentially a better Sombra if they do him properly(it's going to take effort to mess him up)

I actually really like the contrast between the Wendigo snow and the crystal shadow magic at the end. The way they spun together to go after Twilight is extremely well done!

This animatic is so grand. My favorite parts were the chorus of spirit horses - were they modeled after Kelpies, I wonder? They look so much more intimidating and regal than the cartoonish bugs in the Anastasia animation. XD
The end near it the song with the choirs really gets to it I got goosebumps seeing sombra stand there as the stamped of station demons chase up to tiwlight... If I can love Tmpest song then I can definitely love sombras song... Come on... Make his song... I want it now.

Still come back to this every so often. Really makes Sombra seem a lot more threatening then in the show, and bringing back the Wendigos to team up with him was a cool move.

Hey, I needed to come back and comment on this after all these years. This, right here? This was what started me on my path to becoming an animator. Seeing something like this - in what a real production would consider its roughest stages - made me realize at a very young age just how incredible the medium could be, and how it was all done with a real human touch. I remember watching this over and over again when it came out, marveling at the beauty of this fan work and the anticipation it could create. Thank you for piquing my interest and setting me down that path.

The windigos are more known than the umbrums(plus, they aren't too different in design. Though it feels as if each serves a master, the umbrums for Sombra and the windigos for essentially a better Sombra)

I love this. Why? Firstly, BEST VILLAIN!!! (He was the only one outright killed in the show, so it's clear he's much more dangerous, because in my mind, the worse your fate, the more dangerous you are). And secondly, it's one of my favorite songs EVER! The animation just makes it so much better.

When I first heard "In the dark of the night" from "Anastasia", it came back to me months later when I had an idea for a custom villain for MLP. For starters, it is a "he", and he's not a pony, more of an unholy demon or a goblin of some sort who is a sorcerer. His name is Sven, and his theme song could possibly be "In the dark of the night", because he was once popular in Equestria until Princess Celestia banished him because he wanted to rule the land for himself and reshape it into his own image. His personality is based off of Scar from "The Lion King" and Plankton from "SpongeBob SquarePants". Whenever he's with Cuddles (my other custom character) he fools him into doing his bidding, but ends up losing in the end by Cuddles' ignorance. My villain character dies when his wooden scepter breaks into pieces, causing him to disintegrate into dust, along with the scepter. He would be one of those MLP villains that don't reform and just die in the end.
I love that the backup vocals where given to the windigoes they suit them a lot better than the bugs in the original movie. Rasputin's voice fits Sombra perfectly. This is a really great animatic!

Doesn't anyone else see how Sombra looks alot like Ganondorf in some scenes. He's like the Demon king but he has the potential to be worse than what he was with his list of abilities. If the show used his full potential and it wasn't a Pg rating, imagine how dark the show could've been. (Ganon vs Sombra who would win?)
As powerful as sombra is, Ganondorf has the triforce of power. It's been show that it prevents him from dying from anyone other than a bear of courage or wisdom.
Every now and then I remember this exists and how much of a piece of art it is. It conveys such powerful visuals despite its simpler medium, and you can feel the power of it especially towards the end with the shapes of the ice and darkness.
You'd be surprised to learn that on the actual show, Sombra is probably the most generic mysterious villain in existence. I'm not joking, the few episodes where he's the center of the conflict, he only ever growls and laughs in an echoy distance, and everything that's established about him is in exposition and flashbacks by other characters. I can't even remember if he was ever beaten

This animatic is so grand. My favorite parts were the chorus of spirit horses - were they modeled after Kelpies, I wonder? They look so much more intimidating and regal than the cartoonish bugs in the Anastasia animation. XD

Hail King Sombra- A villain with wasted potential.
So much wasted potential. Im not even asking for him to turn good but just be more like sz 3 not sz 9. He was evil but he never saw himself as one. He thinks this is his desteny but he is scared of it. Just pure waste.
Plus he was fun.
I would love to see this animated, there are so many shots that would have a unique feel to them if they were animated.

So I saw this in a related video/recommended list, thought it looked cool, added it to my watch later. I finally come to watch it. It has already been liked, but I have absolutely _no freaking memory whatsoever_ of seeing this. Really amazing though!
Still come back to this every so often. Really makes Sombra seem a lot more threatening then in the show, and bringing back the Wendigos to team up with him was a cool move.

Hey, I needed to come back and comment on this after all these years. This, right here? This was what started me on my path to becoming an animator. Seeing something like this - in what a real production would consider its roughest stages - made me realize at a very young age just how incredible the medium could be, and how it was all done with a real human touch. I remember watching this over and over again when it came out, marveling at the beauty of this fan work and the anticipation it could create. Thank you for piquing my interest and setting me down that path.

The windigos are more known than the umbrums(plus, they aren't too different in design. Though it feels as if each serves a master, the umbrums for Sombra and the windigos for essentially a better Sombra)

I love this. Why? Firstly, BEST VILLAIN!!! (He was the only one outright killed in the show, so it's clear he's much more dangerous, because in my mind, the worse your fate, the more dangerous you are). And secondly, it's one of my favorite songs EVER! The animation just makes it so much better.

When I first heard "In the dark of the night" from "Anastasia", it came back to me months later when I had an idea for a custom villain for MLP. For starters, it is a "he", and he's not a pony, more of an unholy demon or a goblin of some sort who is a sorcerer. His name is Sven, and his theme song could possibly be "In the dark of the night", because he was once popular in Equestria until Princess Celestia banished him because he wanted to rule the land for himself and reshape it into his own image. His personality is based off of Scar from "The Lion King" and Plankton from "SpongeBob SquarePants". Whenever he's with Cuddles (my other custom character) he fools him into doing his bidding, but ends up losing in the end by Cuddles' ignorance. My villain character dies when his wooden scepter breaks into pieces, causing him to disintegrate into dust, along with the scepter. He would be one of those MLP villains that don't reform and just die in the end.

I love that the backup vocals where given to the windigoes they suit them a lot better than the bugs in the original movie. Rasputin's voice fits Sombra perfectly. This is a really great animatic!

Doesn't anyone else see how Sombra looks alot like Ganondorf in some scenes. He's like the Demon king but he has the potential to be worse than what he was with his list of abilities. If the show used his full potential and it wasn't a Pg rating, imagine how dark the show could've been. (Ganon vs Sombra who would win?)
As powerful as sombra is, Ganondorf has the triforce of power. It's been show that it prevents him from dying from anyone other than a bear of courage or wisdom.
Every now and then I remember this exists and how much of a piece of art it is. It conveys such powerful visuals despite its simpler medium, and you can feel the power of it especially towards the end with the shapes of the ice and darkness.
You really captured each key frame with excellent expressions!
You'd be surprised to learn that on the actual show, Sombra is probably the most generic mysterious villain in existence. I'm not joking, the few episodes where he's the center of the conflict, he only ever growls and laughs in an echoy distance, and everything that's established about him is in exposition and flashbacks by other characters. I can't even remember if he was ever beaten
