I remember when all hope is gone came out, and while it wasn’t what I expected at the time, this track always resonated with me and gets better as years pass by. It goes along with the crisp instrumental work of the entire album and Corey’s vocals are dynamic. I know all hope is gone gets a ton of unwarranted hate and Corey gets ripped apart for his vocal performance due to some of the screams not being up to par with the other albums. People have to keep in mind his workload is insane with both bands. I think this album needs to be respected more and honestly it might be the tightest sounding and most cohesive album in terms of instrumental execution/ambition.

I just discovered another Craig Jones contribution to this album, while listening very loud in my car and im so happy to share it!! At 4:30, directly when Corey stop singing, you can hear an evil atmospheric sound, thats repeated at every start of the riffs up to the end of the song.
There are plenty of atmospheric sounds like that on the album, mostly backing heavy riffs, like in the chorus of psychosocial

IOWA is as heavy as metal can be without becoming Death Metal, its still the best Slipknot for my money too.
Iowa is by far Slipknot's heaviest album, it's borderline deathcore
Deathcore isn't heavy at all in my opinion, I can't stand deathcore, and I think gray chapter is heaviest, but that's me.
Listening to this again makes me slowly realize that slipknot took a mature approach to the writing of AHIG. I miss the eerie aggression from the first two albums cause it seemed so raw, but this was actually thought out as a whole. Love this band.

After all these years I wondered why AHIG is looked at as their worst album, every song could have easily been a single. The breakdown in this song and All Hope is Gone are easily their best next to Disasterpiece.
Heavy, raw, too real?
AHIG in my opinion suffers from a bad track order. It starts out strong but all the songs in the middle (vendetta, butchers hook, gehenna, snuff) just absolutely kill the pace until it gets going again with the last three songs. People listening for the first time will probably get bored in the middle of the album.

Some nights I listen to AHIG to bring out some of my feelings. Other slipknot listeners should definitely listen and discover to this song. AHIG is my favorite slipknot album also gehenna and I really love this song. I'm glad I met slipknot and I'm glad I discovered AHIG.

I prefer the self titled one. It's just undoubtedly the rawest and purest. AHIG isn't bad, but it lacks that clear emotion the earlier albums had, feeling more of just a conventional mix of Nu and black metal.

The whole band admits that this is the one album they hate more than anything cause none of them recorded a single track together. They were all doing drugs and Joey was the only one that showed dedication to the band no matter how badly it was falling apart. Honestly, and I hate to say this… but losing Joey and Paul was a wake up call to the band. I know… that sucks to hear but look at them now. They’re stronger and better than ever.
