  • The 'ENLIGHT Teaching & Learning Conference' (T&L) is an annual event that convenes teachers, programme administrators, educational developers, students and other stakeholders to share their experiences and ideas on how to connect innovative teaching and learning practices with the ENLIGHT educational goals and concepts which aim to develop transversal skills in an interdisciplinary and intercultural approach to address 21st century challenges.
The main theme of the 𝟯𝗿𝗱 '𝗘𝗡𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯' hosted by the University of Bordeaux from October 11 to 13, 2023 is « 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 ».
Empowerment is a multidimensional concept that aims at empowering individuals or communities to take control of their lives and their environment by acquiring skills, knowledge and resources to act autonomously. Empowering students is an objective that finds its full place in pedagogies that aim at developing the skills necessary to face the challenges of the 21st century (ENLIGHT Competence Framework: enlight-eu.org....
Training a new generation of impact entrepreneurs is one concrete way in which ENLIGHT universities can make a difference, in addition to our wider aim of educating engaged citizens who will lead the transitions of our societies (Luna Scott, 2015, UNESCO: unesdoc.unesco....
The conference's programme highlights good practices and observations from the classroom and institutional levels and will reflect the diverse perspectives on empowering pedagogical practices within the ENLIGHT alliance.
The '𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 - 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁-𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆' keynote given by Gesche Kindermann addresses the University of Galway's overall approach to sustainability and focuses on student empowerment within this approach. After a broad introduction to university values of sustainability and the ‘Learn-Live-Lead’ model, that the University of Galway has implemented, with a view on empowering our students to become sustainability leaders, the presentation then focuses on the ‘Learn’ aspect, starting with sustainability in the curriculum. Here the keynote touches on examples including SDG alignment of modules in all disciplines, the inclusion of our transdisciplinary module ‘Introduction to Sustainability’ and the Designing Futures pathway with inclusion of sustainability in the student journey. Following on from the curricular element, the keynote moves to the co-curricular aspect and the initiatives that students are involved in and how they are being encouraged in this. This is also strongly linked to the ‘Live’ aspect of the strategy and there is mention of some of the initiatives that are included in sessions over the course of the ‘ENLIGHT Teaching & Learning Conference 2023’, hosted by the University of Bordeaux from October 11 to 13, 2023. Then the keynote moves to the ’Lead’ aspect of the approach and how students are involved in sustainability leadership. The end of the keynote looks at some of the challenges the University of Galway faces going forward and future steps.
