The origional station was just down the hill after the Copley school. The trans pennine line was a freight line from the coal mine to the tank factory behind the school on the main road and quarrys.
Lived in the Bottom end of Sprotbrough. Spent a lot of time up in the village with school mates. Went to Richmond Hill junior school. My Uncle and auntie lived on a boat by the lock in the 70s
Like most villages in the area, it has an "old" and "new" section. The old section was basically the boat and area near the church. You also missed the massive house opposite the church which is the old rectory where Douglas Bader used to live. Where you were walking down near the old railway cutting, if you carried on walking you'd have ended up at the bottom of Cusworth hall and can easily walk up there. Far more interesting than driving it. I'd skip Stainforth if I were you.
Anyway if you think it's weird someone asking you if you are there to fix their boiler, how do you think I felt that year I was playing at BOMfest 2010 when it was at Worsborough Reservoir and some old fella asked if I was a fisherman!
Omg the controversy!!! 🤣🤣 I'm 5 generations of Sprotbrough folk and this has caused many debate. Sprotbrough goes from the "village" all the way down to KFC Yes on maps it shows Newton, but in history Sprotbrough was all farm and estate lands owned by the Copley family, Newton comes from the Newton farm in that area again owned by the Copley family.
I have distinct childhood memories of summers day walks down Cusworth Lane circa 1973

Nice places I intend to visit on my return home to Donny.
We went to The Oriental Palace tonight, brought loads of leftovers home like 3 meals worth!

I was born and lived my early years within walking distance of Cusworth Hall

All Sprotbrough still, just a different name for a different area
