I met Donna twice, first in 1963 when we were 15. She was with her mother and I was with my mother who knew each other. The next time we met was in a bar in Harvard Sq one Saturday afternoon around 1980. Ther were 4 of us; Donna and her husband; the bartender and me, so I bought them a beer. I had no idea who she was without hair and make up but the shape of her face caught my eye. I knew I had seen it before. Later that night I saw her and her husband being interviewed after a concert. My father died in 1985 and Donna's mother attended the funeral and spoke with my kid brother. When Donna died, he told me her mother and our father were cousins. Our families have roots in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia Canada.
Donna Summer won the first Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance Female for Hot Stuff. She started her musical journey in the Psychedelic Rock Band Crow, as the front woman. At 18 she won the part of Shelia in Munich Production of Hair and moved to Europe. She was dominating the Billboard Charts at this time. Becoming the first female to repeat having the #1 single and #1 album simultaneously on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 respectively with Hot Stuff the single and Bad Girls the album (3 times in 8 months). She was the first female to have 2 songs in the top 3 (twice in 4 months), at the same time. And first to have 2 #1 singles (Hot Stuff/Bad Girls), in the top 5 and the top 3 of the Billboard Hot 100.
This was a triple platinum triumph for Donna making her the first woman ever to win the best performance rock female. It shot to number 1 for weeks. Keep Donna's songs coming.
On this Album, "Hot Stuff" was the 1st song, and "Bad Girls" was the 2nd song. There was no pause between these 2 songs, and they flowed right into each other. Most dance clubs and radio DJ's let the 2 songs play one after the other. "Hot Stuff" was #1 for 4 weeks and "Bad Girls" replaced it at #1 for 5 weeks. Genius move on Donna's part. "Hot Stuff" was the #8 song of 1979 and "Bad Girls" was the #2 song for 1979.
Love Donna Summer cuz when ya know ya know. She defined an era & imo one of the best vocalist of our generation. RIP QUEEN! Great Reaction & YES Asia sang! ♥️ y’all
I always preferred "Bad Girls" to this cut, but this was great fun as well. Give a listen to "Last Dance", "Love To Love You Baby", "Heaven Knows", "On The Radio", and "I Feel Love". Lady Donna, the Queen of Disco, the music of love and inclusion. We miss you. RIP Queen.
I'm just the opposite. "Hot Stuff" was probably my favorite from this album, (2nd being "Sunset People"). "Bad Girls" was ok. But not something I bother listening to...
@@helgar791 ~ Thank you. I really enjoyed a lot of Donna's music. Her songs were fun, even the ones with the series topics, such as "She Works Hard For The Money"...
When I was a little kid growing up in Queens in the late 70's it seemed like this song and a bunch of other Donna Summer songs were constantly being played all over my neighborhood, hearing this brings back great memories
Highly recommend Last Dance, live, MacArthur Park (which best shows her vocal abilities), and She Works Hard For The Money, for a more serious song. She was much more than just the Queen of Disco.
Heavy sigh! She was my first inter-racial crush in high school. She helped me to see the beauty of women of color. What a beautiful, sexy, hot, talented, strong, funny, good dancer. As she got older her beauty did not fade. Unfortunately, she passed in 2012 of lung cancer at 63.
Yes I found her very attractive - even though she was actually born male. Not judging or hating, but it is what it is. Take a long deeper look and study on her (Him).
Hard to overestimate how huge she was 1975-1984! Her "Love To Love You Baby" and "I Feel Love" are next for you! What a voice!!! 42 hit singles, 14 Top 10's.
Always loved her music. Even though she was the "Queen of disco" she started in a psychedelic rock band in the 60s called Crow. That rock mix is definitely in this song with that great guitar solo!
And later she went to Germany as a member of Hair Musical crew and after that she was background singer of the German Rock band "2066 and Then". For example in the song "Time can't take it away". This was in 1972. And after that she met Giorgio Moroder, the inventor of the Disco Sound, in 1973...and the rest is history.
A most BEAUTIFUL vocalist of all time!! Another example...how lucky I grew up in the 70s/80s with music like this. Donna, Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter, Barbra Streisand....
If you guys really want to know why Donna is so iconic as an artist and as a vocal talent, you gotta listen to the 17 minute MACARTHUR PARK SUITE. No other song shows off her amazing voice like this one.

Bad girls, Dim all the lights, on the radio, Last dance, Love to love you baby, No more tears, but if you wanna hear her privilege voice you have to listen to Mc Arthur's Park. Maybe you heard some of these since your father has a CD. It's good to know it. She was so sexy at her era. She dared to sing themes that were strong by then. I think she was a step ahead in the music and she showed her sensuality. She was huge sucessful.
I love Donna. So beautiful. The girl had the voice to match and….watching her interviews…so kind as well. Cancer took her to soon from us all. RIP Donna.
I was 15 and on vacation to visit my cousin the summer Bad Girls album came out. She had just turned 16 and got a brand new car. We'd go driving around town with this cassette blasting. I bought it the minute I got home. A year later I had my license and was thrilled to have a cassette player in the old crappy car I sometimes had permission to drive. This was the first to play; blasting "SUNSET PEOPLE" which became my "cruisin' song"!
