1:39 - This is her "in character" answer. In reality, COVER created Matsuri and the pictures and she auditioned as Matsuri (and was very confident in doing so, essentially writing in her application "I am Matsuri"), but "in character" Matsuri saw a talent company using her photos and instead of suing them or something just joined them. It's possible she just improvised this on the spot and will come up with another story another time.

1:39 - "...using my picture" This is a bit. And they run with it for a lot of this clip. Matsuri's actual story of how and why she joined Hololive can be found in other clips. I considered putting in giant text "THIS IS A BIT" for people that wouldn't be able to detect the sarcasm but decided not to
3:49 - She's singing the song Donna, Donna, probably the version covered by Joan Baez since that's the only version I found in Japanese. Probably unintentional, but it's funny that she's singing this song about cattle being led to slaughter as he was talking about being captured. (Thank you to Marendra Adhipura for the fun fact)

6:22 - sugoikunai - SUGOI is an i-adjective so the proper conjugation should be sugokunai, with the i dropping. The current generation plays fast and loose with the adjective conjugations and I love it.

Right? I felt a bit sad watching this part live because it felt like she rewrote her origin story. As far as I know, the most that's known about her audition is that she joined hololive because she wanted to keep enjoying nijisanji as a fan.

I don't really watch Aran a lot, but do watch him once in a while back then (2020-2021), and during those times he would do some teaching Science streams to educate the viewers. Hoping he'll do these again after they brought this up
They both smart in different ways, but i didn't know Aruran was cracked.

weirdly i feel like there’s lots of mythos around the early debuts. iirc one story is that they didn’t have a name for the models preplanned and so they chose natsuiro matsuri because of her energetic personality and certain things she said during the interview, not sure if it’s true though

Here, Matsuri is just being meta, as if she was Natsuiro Matsuri even before debut, so when they revealed the avatar for Matsuri, Matsuri is just playfully saying like "that's me".

man i want to see more hololive member do collab with other member outside Hololive. So far i only know Towa, Matsuri, Fubuki, Subaru, Suisei and some Holo member from ID n EN collab with Holostars, Nijisan, Vshojo and other Vtuber company or indie Vtuber.
It's hard for them at this point. Years ago sure because things where slower and smaller. I mean wasn't it a year ago where Sueisei appeared with a vtuber that just started out because she got done streaming and roamed the vtuber hashtag.
i wonder how Aran was scouted, since he said he didnt have streaming experience before, and from waht he said it doesnt seem like he and shinove know each other for him to invite aran over to cover.
Hard to say, because he was kinda going with Matsuri's flow and followed up with a "yes, and" by also giving an in-character answer. Maybe someone who's followed him for a while knows?
Nobody knows. The more common rumor is that someone in management knew him before hand and decided to recruit him because he needed a job.

Yeah, once I learned it was a reference I looked it up. And to your point of her being old enough to know the song, I had a suspicion that it was a similar thing to Take Me Home, Country Roads, where Japanese people all know it because it's in their English textbook in like middle school. I asked my Japanese friend if this was the case and he confirmed that Donna, Donna, Donna was also in their English textbooks!

So, the person who plays Matsuri is making a meta joke talking as if Matsuri is a living, breathing person who existed before her debut and came across COVER using her photo. But that's impossible on multiple levels. Matsuri isn't real for one. And second, COVER created Matsuri.
And that's the joke. She then later also adds the interpretation that "I was always Matsuri" meaning "This part was made for me"(Me being the actual person who plays Matsuri)
@@superitgel1 Someone in the stream's live chat said this so I can't promise it's accurate, but it sounds like maybe during the first round of auditions, Cover made the Natsuiro Matsuri avatar public *first* as a sample. Like, "Join us and you could play a cute girl like this!" The comment also mentioned that Aqua's character art was used in the same way, shown ahead of time.
By contrast, nowadays Cover uses the character art from already existing members to advertise auditions.
Back in the day when auditions were opened for vtubers the designs were shown on the audition announcement as a sort of "these are the characters you can audition for", Matsuri is esntially trying to stay in-character/in-lore

I don't know how tryouts work now, but from what I understand back then, COVER provided pictures of the characters that people could audition for and also used them in the advertisements calling for applicants.
So a picture of "Matsuri", and probably the other gen 1 girls were available publicly to select from and to audition for.
