I have to admit. The developers did a great job with the Gears series. I have played 1-5 minus judgement day and any others in between. I don’t really follow up on the backstories but what caught me the most was a doctor had interest in Myrah and settled to have a family despite the fact they experimented on her.

Gary didnt died at the begining of the game, his body is found later in the game in the locust tomb, sorrounded by a bunch of swarm dead bodies, hi died taking a lot of enemies with him.

I also saved Del, but didnt know what Marcus went through before becayse that was the first GOW game ive played, now ive played every previous GOW game, except the remastered one, and im also replaying the Gears 5 now with all the lore i learned
If you only played the games you would think that Marcus didn't have Adam and Elaine's intelligence (Who had a doctorate in Biology). But If you read the books you would know he was the top of his class, and the only reason he didn't go to University is because of stories Dom's father told and what his father said when he was 5, something along the lines of 'I serve because the others serve to protect to eachother' (a really bad paraphrase but I don't have the book with me right now.)

On Marcus' Intelligence: It's mentioned many times that Marcus is just as if not more Intelligent than his father. He simply had no interest in being a scientist and would rather have served as a Gear.
It has a good story, but the base of the game is just stupid. They throw in the berserker fight for no reason, they kill JD/del for no reason, and they have some kinda lame boss fights
I think JD surviving will be Canon just because I feel Del's loss hit him harder since all through gears 5 he's a total jerk who distances his from his friends. So when he's crying over Del's death it's a bigger impact because his guilt is deeper due to their severed relationship. So I think in gears 6 we will get to see JD redeem himself for losing sight of what truly mattered.
