that key is the same as 7 series. i can program one in less than 5 minutes. wont say RR on it but as a spare would be good (no one makes the aftermarket RR key shells) or do what you did and use a shell from a OEM rolls royce people sell on ebay. far as charging, just buy a EWS tester, it has the same power coil, plug into a 12v and charge your key at home, i do it all the time to bmw keys.

Regarding 'rogue' messages in the warning display. The battery in the fob (VL2020) can , as Bob states, cause issues but the twin batteries in the boot (erm trunk for those from elsewhere) can cause many fault code accumulations and 'odd' messages.
The larger of the two, 019agm 12v 90ah, 900a takes a pounding from all the electronic extras on the RR1 Phantom and when it gets in a weaken state needs plenty of juice to top it up, this in turn can direct charge from the smaller cranking battery, 12v 70ah 760ah, eventually causing start problems.
Oh and dont over look the battery isolation switch which is in the boot (trunk!) its behind a small panel on the right, this reduces battery drain should the vehicle be out of use for any long periods, anything more than 4 weeks, and should you forget you have done this, you will get a warning message in the display.
There is a charging plug behind the same boot panel, please remember you are dealing with AGM batteries so adapting a normal lead acid type battery charger is not the way to go. AGM like low & slow recharge patterns.

Also these cars are not money pits as long as you have a good brain and your hands are not broken car wise. Say, engine and trans blown. You buy the car dirt cheap. Then a wreck for parts. Works even if it's from another brand. Like say the 350 chev and auto into the XJ6.
Don't keep doubting others skills. It's a car. Computer interfaces? There's always someone that can help you

Main dealers think..."If you can afford to own a Rolls Royce, you can afford to be ripped off every time you need anything done". It's so good that you are telling them to "Shove-it".
Not that i own a Rolls or a BMW, but these crooks (main dealers) are the the same whatever make of car you own.

Also, as Bob states, ensure the VL2020 battery has the correct 90 degree pin configuration as many listed online are set 180 degree for other applications. Basically, using a clock face, 6 o clock is wrong and quater past 12 is correct. You cannot get + or - mixed up as the pins are different widths.

You tell them Bob. Show them how we save da cash, and ass. Because it is basically a raping when you go to a dealer. Me. So how much will you charge me to just remove the lock nuts. I didn't get the nut socket with my car, it's the pesky ones with anti theft rollers and I know you would have a master set. Dealer. Well I don't know how long it'll take, you have to leave the Audi with us and we charge $280.00 an hour.
No. Not me. Same when I got a Mercedes, I learned how to work on it. Even if you buy tools it will be cheaper.
Having said that, know that I'm very competent.

I watched cause its interesting. i try to never take my car to the shop for repairs. last time i did take one in is in 2004 i had to have my transmission rebuilt on my 1990 dodge ram 350 van. and it cost $590. everything else i on my cars i learned how to do and went and got parts and watched a video on how to do it or had someone teach me. and buy the tools yourself. after your done. you get to keep the tool. if dealership or garage do it. they keep tools and you pay to borrow them. and ive also done it with all the computers and other electronics in my house or ive had over the years. ive easily saved myself at least 20 thousand dollars doing stuff myself and ive got to keep all the tools i bought. and not made others rich or their tool collection bigger. all that stuff with cars or electronics are not as hard as you think they are. companies make you think that so they make money off of you. dont let em have it

  • @Dobbo2958

I think the car is wonderful. You must be very proud to own it. But I have to say as an English man I think Rolls are taking the piss about the price of spares. I suppose part of the cache is to say I paid 1500 dollars for an ignition key. Please keep the video coming as cars of this type of car are becoming available to mere mortals so I for one are very interested.

Hi Bob I have a 2007 phantom, I prity much bought it in the condition like yours and slowly fixing things up one at a time, wanted to ask you about two things, any cheaper places I can buy the complete chrome door trimmings, as Rolls Royce are charging ridiculous money, and also I’ve been having a catalytic error code, which keeps throwing up an engine management light. I’ve changed fuel pumps, to coils, to plugs but still can’t turn off the management light as when I clear it, it comes back on next day. Any suggestions please?
