I’ve made three temperature quilts. I’m in Australia and my middle temperatures used the most fabric. In winter it can be a high of 20 and in summer it can be the overnight low. But I ran out of those mid temperatures on every quilt and had to source more or substitute. They are great fun and you can always catch up if you get behind. I made mine a week at a time. Have fun.
Yes, @kellyhamlyn-harris5151 Thanks for the 'heads up', I'm in NSW. My overall temperatures range from -2C up to 44C. The first bit of fun will be selecting the temp range colours... 😁
Excited to try this. I live in Minnesota in the States, our temps are in Fahrenheit and we range from -20s to over 100 degrees. I’m going to need to plan a ton of colors! Thinking I’ll embroider snowflakes, rain and family names on their birthdays and anniversary’s. I’m really excited to do this! I teach sewing at a high school, so I can do my squares when they are sewing too!
Hi Rachel, with respect to the amount of fabric you may need, perhaps you could look at this year’s or last year’s temperatures? I did this and made a chart and it gave me an idea of which temperatures/colours would be most probable. Good luck with your quilt!💚🐾
I can’t tell you how many times the idea of a temperature blanket has come up over the past week. So many people seem to be talking about it…I guess it’s “that time of year”…either finishing this years or getting ready for the coming year. But I found your channel for the first time today and I choose YOU to lead the way! You’ve got some great ideas and seem to be very organized…two attributes I really appreciate. I am really excited about joining YOU for this project and getting started! I liked @cindy2paw’s suggestion about consulting 2023 temperatures to get some idea for yardage. So I’m off to consult the weather channel in my area of the USA…that is…New York State on the Canadian border. It gets pretty darn chilly up here, so I’m suspecting I’m going to have a predominately blue quilt…😂 My name is Sara. I’m retired, teach quilt classes for beginners, and voraciously quilt my days away for charitable organizations such as Project Linus, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Hospice, and my church (prayer quilts, rather than shawls, for the men). Regards from across the pond!
I LOVE this idea!!! I live in the tropics, so it may end up quite a bit different than many others. Looking forward to the instagram notice as I am not on FB. Glad that you started this early so that I can have a plan in place and send notice to my friends as well! PURA VIDA from Costa Rica, Central America
I really have never made a quilt. This sounds easy and I think it is something that I can manage with my busy life. I'm really excited about doing this with you.
What a lovely idea. This kind of project have been in my mind for several years and now it’s gonna be done. Thank you so much for this amazing project. I think I’m gonna do the hexagon quilt. Greeting from Sweden, Cecilia
I'd love to join in. I fancy seven hexagons made into a flower, appliqued onto a square which is quilt as you go. That way my quilt will grow and not be waiting until the end of the year to finish. Thanks for the idea, lots of food for thought.
I was looking at temperature quilts just yesterday!!! Your quilt along came in the perfect moment! Can’t wait to do it with you and everyone else ❤ thank you for organising it 😊
What an interesting idea! I have never heard of them so something new for me. I do like the idea of different size circles, especially for the days when the high is only for an hour or so. Also the snow days. I think I will use a snow fabric I have as the background for all the days we have snow here. Now I know what to do with all the solid fat quarters I have collected!! Thank you. See you on Facebook.
😅m definitely in on this. I think I’m going to do the temps from the year my daughter was born. This is her first year in college. So that seems like a really special year at the moment. I can’t wait to map out my plan and share my details.
I'm going to do a temperature quilt for the year we got married, using paper piecing. An Art Deco pattern I bought on ETSY. It'll only mark the highs, which is fine. I wanted to do one that just looked fun, but I know the reason for the colors. :)

It's certainly that time of year! You do see alot of temperature blankets in knit or crochet and I think a quilted one will be amazing. Glad to have you onboard 🧵💖
I’m so excited to join. I’m making my very first temperature quilt this year and of course will be finishing on December 31 so I’m excited to start over with you
@@stitchwithrachelYes I’ve enjoyed it very much but I did under estimate on the amount of fabric I would need for one set of temperatures and of course I could not find the exact same fabric so I am going to make sure that it is something that I can buy again in the future. I just had to find something as close possible
Thanks for this idea Rachel. Sounds fun. I also live in Spain (Mallorca) and we can have such a range of temperatures too. Not sure can do a daily catch up, but will have a go and look forward to your coming videos🤗
What a wonderful idea and I love to hear all your thoughts and suggestions as to how we can all make the temperature quilt quite personal. Looking forward to joining you in 2024 xx
I love the idea of this. The temperature where I live rarely changes. That would make a boring quilt. I am going to look around and choose one of my favorite vacation spots.

Good day. I am 11 months in on my 2023 temperature quilt. I brought too much fabric. I have worked out what I brought and what I used plus projected needs for the last weeks of this year. I started with 20 fat quarters. Did not use 3 colors for the lowest temperatures since it did not get as cold this year. And used roughly 2 fat quarters for the higher volume repeated days. I started by listing all the high and low temperatures from the prior year to guess what I would need.
It is very hot where I,live in the summer so I leave and go to the mountains. I live in Arizona USA. Then in the winter I go back to the desert where the winters are mild and no,snow.
I’m planning on making a temperature quilt with Bumbleberries materials, (so many shades) So I’ll gladly join, yay!, Would be brill if could create labels for individual sale so everyone could buy one if they choose too
I think embroidering the key is wonderful. Consider a few for the giveaway and then selling some. (Maybe even a pattern for those of us across the pond.) 💖🌞🌵😷
@stitchwithrachel Oh and I like the week hexagon look. Where I am in Montana, the "feels like" temps can be as high as 105⁰ F to -70⁰ F. I'm really going to need to plan my ranges. 😹
I’m keen to join, quilt shop near me is closing soon and fabric on sale, so will pop in this week, gorgeous idea, I think I will do a square and circle similar to yours, really excited about this.
I love this idea, and I fully intend to join in. It sounds like great fun! Your video is perfect timing, because next weekend I’m attending the Knitting and Stitching show in Harrogate. I don’t think that there will be a better opportunity to look for fabric…..yay! I also loved the the little extra ideas that you shared. You’ve got my brain working now.
Sounds like a wonderful idea! I am interested. Just not sure I would keep up a whole year … I often start very enthusiastically and after a while stop 😕 But it is a wonderful idea. I have never heard of it.
It's alright to stop. Life happens. It's fun to keep the weather on a calendar for the whole year, so you can have the info when you are ready to pick it up again. ... @@simonedk96 , consider quilt-as-you-go. That way when you run out of enthusiasm you'll have a table topper, or a bed runner or even a quilted piece for the back of your chair or sofa. That way you can enjoy your work and it's there reminding you that there's lovely fabric in your sewing space calling you to continue working on it. 💖🌞🌵😷
Hello Rachel, I am an expat living in Spain and earlier this year decided to complete a Temperature quilt so as of 1st June I have been collecting my data and will be buying my fabric early next year, it all depends on when I get back to UK in the new year. I loved your video and can't wait for the Quilt along. At the moment I am thinking of doing EPP half hexagons, one half the high temp the other half the low temp, so should end up with a whole hexagons for each day,. Do you think this will work? Could do a small tutorial on the best way to tackle hexagon. Many thanks. Penny.
These are my thoughts: As next year will probably be not a special year for me, I will go and take the year of my birth for this quilt. I would like to do it in shades from white to black, replacing some of the cold days with blues and some of the hot ones with reds. Another idea is to take special years in my life and take the monthly averages. Should be interesting how temperatures might have changed over the years. If you can see it - its just average temperatures.😂
I'm hoping that my mom and I will be participating. Just came across the idea today. I have the layout planned and the color scheme, just need to find the fabrics .
If you are not sure how much fabric or if you have a smaller temperature range you could go by season. Winter could be a muted tones spring could be pastels summer brights fall earthtones
In Canada we have over 60 degrees variations. In winter we can get to -40 and summer up to 37. Will have to figure out how to do the ranges. Think I might do the flying geese as I think might be a good beginner friendly one.
Wow! I’ve never heard of this and I love it! I only like the hexie flower idea and don’t want to appliqué, so would that many white joiners make me insane? Thinking of 14 shades of Tula Pink’s solids as Minnesota goes from -20 to 90 F plus maybe a couple -30 and 100. Fairy dust background? Will give this some serious thought 😃 Thanks Rachel!
Thanks for sharing! I will put some thought into joining this group! I have started the hand quilting “ brick quilt” project that you have previously shared. Do you have an update on your quilt? Have I missed it?
I would like to join in. I am new to quilt making, so lots of hints and tips and instructions woukd be greater appreciated. I woukd like to do the English paper piercing method. 😊
I would like to try this, as it sounds like fun. I have done machine quilting but not EPP. I’m interested in doing the hexagon flowers but I’m not sure what size hexagons to make. Anyone have a suggestion?
I'm in. I will try a blanket of my sons first year. Maybe in a lego design. Can you give any advise of fabrics. I'm new and there are so many fabrics. Help. 😂
Hello, I was wondering if machine sewing is also ok? I’ve been thinking about a doing this quilt for a few years. No fabric choices yet, from Alaska I will need a large range. I want to do simple little houses, separating weeks or months with a tree, white for snow weather and green for above freezing.
I have been wanting to make one of these for awhile. I love Jo Avery’s design and also the idea of hand piecing which does seem more doable on a daily basis. Might decide to do my birth year. That would allow me to know the high and low of the year and to buy fabric accordingly. But should I begin the year on my actual birth day, which is in the summer and do my whole first year of life, or should I begin with January of that year? What do people think?
Hi... I am interested in this project. I have requested to join the facebook group. I'm not sure how involved I can be. I love having some guidance and support as I go through this. Thanks in advance for all your ideas and encouragement.
I've actually been thinking about this for a few weeks now! Only problem is, my brain is very literal, and when you live in the desert where it's triple digits for months and don't really care for the color red, it makes it hard to commit. I'll still chew on it for a bit.
Someone else in the comments said a similar thing and they plan to do the temperature for their favourite vacation location, thought that was a very good idea.
Hello Rachel. I'm new to your channel. I am also new to EPP and I have been looking for a way to get started. I'd love to join you and get some guidance along the way. ❤ Thank you for this opportunity.
I had considered that and I love that block, I worry that the top inner point of thr heart might fray with needle turn as you need to cut in to. Do you know?
@@stitchwithrachel , I don't have any personal experience, but people keep doing it with hearts and other sharp points (like leaves). One thing they say if you are going to clip close, start with a good quality fabric that doesn't fray much. If it was me, and it was so close to be worry some, I'd put a dot of fray check (permanent fabric glue) just to seal it. Another reinsurance is to do a decorative stitch around the edge. This will keep it from shifting and keep that point secure. A different decorative stitch on every block would add to the charm. If you made it quilt as you go, you could use your decorative stitch as your quilting stitch. ... ... so many options! There are non-fusible interfacing options, but I'm guessing you chose needle turn to keep cost down. ... You talked about making the circles different sizes to keep the hand made look... making that inner point more rounded might give you that hand made look that you are seeking. 💖🌞🌵😷
🪡 I’m loving the circle in the square! I think the texture is so nice with hand sewing, which is why I prefer it! 🧵🪡🩷
Yeah I think the circle looks great, it's was kind of raised when I did my test block, I really like it too x

That is such a good idea! I like the idea of starting with your birthday as it will then be your first year of life 🩷
Hi... I am interested in this project. I have requested to join the facebook group. I'm not sure how involved I can be. I love having some guidance and support as I go through this. Thanks in advance for all your ideas and encouragement.
Good morning, I think I've approved everyone to the group now so let me know if you aren't in there x
How can I join in?
I've actually been thinking about this for a few weeks now! Only problem is, my brain is very literal, and when you live in the desert where it's triple digits for months and don't really care for the color red, it makes it hard to commit. I'll still chew on it for a bit.
Someone else in the comments said a similar thing and they plan to do the temperature for their favourite vacation location, thought that was a very good idea.
What about the pattern we do our own
Yeah that's right, there's no set pattern because I know people have different tastes and ideas 🧵🩷
Hello Rachel. I'm new to your channel. I am also new to EPP and I have been looking for a way to get started. I'd love to join you and get some guidance along the way. ❤ Thank you for this opportunity.
I would love to join you. How do I join the Facebook group?
We'd love to have to join in.. there is a link to the Facebook group in the video description
I am so excited to do this!!
Can’t get the link to work so can I look for a group name on Facebook?
So sorry about that! I've edited the link in the video description so that should work now x
I was thinking maybe doing half hexis. One half for the high, and the other half for the low. 💖🌞🌵😷
That will be a great quilt! Very manageable to do each day aswell x
This is what I thought of doing too.
thats a good idea
Check out ' Material Girl Quilts ' video How to make a tempature quilt.
What is the name of the Facebook group please.
I've edited the link in the video description so that should work now xx
A video of finished project in January 2025 would be a delight
That is a great idea!
Instead of circles consider hearts. 💖🌞🌵😷
@@suzisaintjames you've twisted my arm!
@@stitchwithrachel p.s. you can turn your appliqué using non-fusible interfacing all by hand if that's your jam. 💖🌞🌵😷
