Appreciate the help! Just had my baby today and was gifted this seat. You had me get the seat on in no time at all! Two time step dad first time father here with all the thanks!
My girl was calling me stubborn all day for not looking up the proper way to install this but after hours of doing the back legs incorrectly I had to watch this , thank you for the thorough video!
The only thing I'd like to add is this: if your carseat base has an actual strap that goes across the car seat base to hook onto the lower latch anchors DO NOT also use the seat belt! The majority of carseats have a latch strap not the 2 latches on the side of the seats like this Nuna. Using both a latch strap & a seatbelt can put too much pressure on the base in a crash causing the base to break.
Yes! I was using bath the latch and the seatbelt like this video said and when I went to a firefighter car seat check they had in my town they told me use either one or the other not both as using bath can compromise the safely of the car seat if god forbid your in an accident !!
Nuna Pipa series is the only exception to the one or other rule, and it's ONLY for the Pipa series; their other seats state one or the other. However, Nuna states in their Pipa series manuals that the recommended install is using the seatbelt only. The comment, "we like to be extra safe" had me cringing too and can be taken out of context putting nonNuna Pipa users at risk! I have the same car as this gentleman and couldn't get a proper install using the anchors, so I'm seatbelt all the way.
CPST here. The Nuna Pipa DOES allow for Lower Anchors, AND the Seatbelt to be used, HOWEVER, your car has to allow it as well. It is ALWAYS best to just use one method, unless you are 100% sure your vehicle allows it as well. It was plenty snug with just the lower anchors. You just need it to move an inch or less
thanks for the video. what prevents the car seat to not be lifted up from the front. Like i followed these instructions and i am still able to put upward force and lift front of the car seat base
Did you ever figure out how to solve this problem? My husband and I are having the same problem in our Jeep and can’t find anyone else saying they had this problem too?
I have two Chicco car seats and recently got this one. I have to say, after installing it for the first time, the Pipa Lite is so unnecessarily complicated with seemingly little to no functional reason. The Chicco seats are extremely easy to install and have few moving parts - very intuitive. What the Chicco accomplishes elegantly with wedge slots and belt anchors, the Pipa seems to have over engineered with little thought of the user.
As a certified tech I’ve never heard of installing both latch and belt, but if the manual says it’s okay then I would follow that but It is typically one or the other. Also when he installs the belt in this video he does not pull it all the way out which is necessary to lock it. Also the base is not level when he is done with the install and from my experience it is very hard to get this base level using the latch especially in a luxury vehicle. I had to use pool noodles to get a better level.
This installation video was great however, I understand the lower leg is used to prevent the car seat from angling towards the front of the car but what is preventing the base/seat to lift towards the back of the car/baby's feet? There is nothing keeping the "head" of the carseat/base secure to the seat...it can be easily lifted off the seat from that side... am I missing something?
that movement is normal and is stopped by the base install, its side to side and front (the back of the seat) to front you need to make sure theres no movement with a belt install without the base
I can't get ours to sit flush against the back of the seat. The loghts show as green but it makes it So the whole seat tilts back till vertical and the floor leg just extends

Please anyone help quickly. I notice the latch system can pivot on the support bars and the front end of my base(where the support leg is) can lift up about 3-4 inches. I have it latched and have a seatbelt, it’s not moving side to side but the forward end isn’t fixed down to anything just supported by a leg so idk how it won’t move
same here. I asked nuna andI got a response. To check to see if your PIPA™ car seat’s “wiggle room” is secure, hold the PIPA™ base at the side area closest to the vehicle at the seat crease and move left to right. There should be no more than one inch of motion from left to right where the base is connected to the LATCH or belt pathway. The other side closest to the driver seat or passenger seat can have movement and that is normal. Thank you! Sounds vertical movement from leg direction is expected behavior though I also think this movement is scaring.
Really? I have never seen it in the middle seat. To be honest I don't remember what the manual says about that but in all the example pictures its always on one of the side seats.
Seating position is by preference. In most vehicles the center seat is not an approved lower anchor position. Most car seats also do not allow borrowing lower anchors of the outboard seats when performing a center seat install. One big mistake shown in this video is installing with both LA attachments and seat belt. It does not provide more stability (that is a myth) and car seats are not crash tested using both methods. This is a common misuse. Use one method or the other.
Word of Advice TV I’ve had friends who put the car seat in the middle and honestly so will I because if we get into an accident there’s a possibility of someone hitting the side of the car where the baby is at. I won’t be risking that
Jazz Cruz like I told the other person I won’t be putting baby on either sides because If we get into an accident that’s automatic contact with the car seat if we get hit on the side. I’ve seen car seats be put into the middle seat and they are stable as hell. 🙏🏼 I don’t want to risking baby getting hit head on because he’s sat next to the door
Trista Ulate a safe install is more important than position in the car. A seat correctly installed on the side is much safer than a seat in the middle that is not installed/used correctly. Because some of the Pipa’s main safety features aren’t always usable in a middle seat (the load leg does not fit in some cars with a middle floor hump, and the rigid latch would not be usable unless the middle seat has its own dedicated set of lower anchors). I would personally choose to utilize the excellent safety features of this car seat and install it outboard if needed rather than skipping these features and installing it in the middle. If you’re set on a middle install then there are other, much cheaper car seats I would choose over this one.

I would use one or the other but not both. Better safe than sorry. Just google using both latch and belt, you'll find all the resources to make your own decision. Happy parenting :)
I have spoke to the rep from Nuna several times at various car seat conferences. Although the manual says it is ok to do both, the main reason that is there is because there know caregivers are already doing it and that have designed the seat to accommodate that misuse. The problem with showing this misuse is that people will think it’s ok to do with other brands as well. I would put a footnote in this video saying this method is noted in the manual but not required so that others are not misled.
That is wrong never do both the seat belt and anchor system. Choose one or the other. One system is not safer than the other. There could be weight limits on the anchor system and seat belt so refer to manual
Why are you making videos and encouraging people to use the straps and the seatbelt? That’s like bungee jumping with a rope. The seatbelt is designed to flex in a crash. You never want to use the seatbelt and the straps together.

DO NOT USE BOTH INSTALLATIONS AT THE SAME TIME!!! THIS IS NOT APPROVED OR CONSIDERED SAFE BY NUNA!!!!!!!
Amy Lou he used these anchors as well, that should be pretty secure no?
I am a certified car seat technician. YouCANNOT use the seat belt AND the latch system. One or the other.
Thank you for clarifying that! Much appreciated
Please provide a compelling argument why this would not improve the rigidity of the seat mount. The Pipa manual states that you can use both.
Lol you're a certified dumb dumb. Most seats can't handle two restraint systems but it's almost like this $300 seat was designed better.
@@samlusk9008 because it isn't Nuna or any car seat that makes these regulations, its the car manufacturer. Car Manufacturers are the ones who conduct the crash test ratings of their seat belts and LATCH systems. It is car manufacturers that prohibit it. Go ask your local fire department if you dont believe me. or google it
@@rainernotes andrew, you're a certified moron and putting your child's life at risk. just google it. I cant believe its 2020 and people dont know that you aren't supposed to use both systems.
Never NEVER NEVER use both latch and seat belt!!!!!
What is your justification on your comment? On page 32 of the Nuna PIPA Manual states "It is acceptable to install with both LATCH
(lower attachments) and the vehicle belt."
L awake
Baby almost sitting. Bad product. Not horizontal 100% .
