Idk about everyone else, but I love new club reviews. I just like to hear the updates, view the clubs, and learn the tech. I don’t get to talk to the sales reps all day so I appreciate the putter review

I'm sticking with my Costco putter! I got it at $99 but then upgraded with the weights which is where it takes it from ordinary to wow.

They look great. Got my 25 year old Odyssey deep face Rosie 2. Love it. Got a new thicker grip on it in the summer and started putting really well with it so going to stick with it for a while longer

I was never a fan of the White Hot putter insert, I always found it was too soft and I struggled to get the Ball to the hole (particularly on soft winter greens). These days I much prefer a milled metal face so the Toulon would have my personal vote👍

I agree, I’d choose the Toulon putters as they look amazing! Although it’s hard to beat a white hot insert for feel and distance control.

The gentleman BW is absolutely correct. I was down in San Diago CA, went to Scotty Cameron
and got fitted for a putter. Was the best move that I ever made. Knocked five strokes off my
handicap, instantly.Have'nt played very much last two years, got to get back at it. Stay safe You Two!!!

People will pay big money for a driver they hit maybe 14 times a round . The putter is 40% of your game ...thats were you should pay the big money! Enjoyed the review as always Andy👍

I prefer the center shaft putters, I like the look over the ball and the feel of them much better, but they seem to have gone away for the most part.

Thanks for mentioning that! Center shafted putters do not get enough love out there. Sure you can order anything online but to walk into a store and have one in stock to try is another thing, especially if you live in a smaller market area. Recently bought a White Hot center shafted mallet style putter in Denver for $150 US. Surprised they had 2 in stock. Have a Futura 5S also, experiment time.

You are correct Andy, putter and wedge choices are very much subjective to each person on what they like, better to show the options available with the manufacture and then go try them out.

I ended up getting a White Hot OG #5 last year after just taking 5 minutes every time I went through the pro shop to test out a few on the matt and see which I liked the feel of. After a few months of that I worked out what kind of head I preferred the shape of and once I got it it's been an absolute game changer for me. I love the soft feel which has made me massively more consistent at about 3-8ft range and it's really brought down my 3 putts to usually 1-2 a round if that which has been massive for my scoring.

Not as terrible as you made it out to be. Although having purchased the previous Toulon Las Vegas model for $450usd, I guess I do feel a bit terrible knowing that had I waited a bit I could have saved some $. However, even at the higher price and "older" styling, I absolutely LOVE the putter and have been rolling it great and there's not a price to be put on that.

Great Intro! 🤣 I have used the Newport Notchback for a few years now. I finally made the switch to a mallet style putter - Ping Tomcat Heppler. First mallet putter I ever liked the weight to.
Lot of words for - expensive putters are ok by me. Most used club. Club that 'typically' stays with a player the longest.

It’s amazing that golfers will spend a fortune for a driver that you might use 14 times in a round, and then cheap out on a putter that you might use 36 times. It stands to reason that there is more to gain in optimizing putter/putting performance to lower scores. With that said, I think money is better spent on a putter rather than a driver. But I guess it’s not as glamorous to show off as a new shiny driver is.

Instantly brings to mind what is probably the oldest adage in golf : putting for dough. All I know is that I get more value for money with my putter (i.e. 40+ putts a round) than most 😆

I must admit, I think prices on clubs are just getting outrageous these days.
£500+ drivers! £300+ putters where will this craziness end? Sadly, I feel golf is becoming the elitist sport it was 60+ years ago.

@Ornby1 UK and US clearly have different concepts of elitism. Here in the US, many people play street basketball because it costs nothing per game after getting a basketball and finding a hoop. When you need to buy all the equipment to play and it's pay to play each time, not a hobby most can afford without significant disposable income. Even football in the uk only requires a ball and goal lines.

I've never gotten on with anything other than odyssey putters. Currently on a White Hot Pro 1 I bought about 4 years ago which was mispriced in Decathlon. Just had a thicker oddysey grip fitted this weekend and treated it to a new head cover.

I have an 8 year old Odyssey blade, long shaft, heavy head, works for me. I think I paid like 150 bucks as last years model. After a few months the insert started to loosen and peel back. I crazy glued and clamped it and it is still in there. Grip looks worn out but that is normal for something you use so much. I would never buy a putter with an insert again, would go milled face next time.

    Andy,
In these days of irons goinh between $100 - over $200 per club and Drivers now approaching the $600 range I can understand that putter prices are also going into the statosphere but looking from a logic point, since a putter accounts for half of your strokes (more or less) I feel that maybe as average (recreational) golfers it is still the most important club in our bags and if we are looking to improve our scores it is also where we should look at placing it as the most valuable club, so if the price of a putter is going up but getting fit for the proper putter and spending more time on the practice green is going to help us shoot lower scores then its value needs to be perceived and realized as such! While it seems everyone is looking for more distance from their drivers and better control from their irons it seems that making more of those little 3 - 6 foot putts should be where we all should be looking for improvement as for most it would be a more realistic goal to achieve...just my 2 cents worth!

Maybe I'm wrong but to me a putter should simply be something you are confident with. I recently switched to a Taylormade spider that I got used. I love it for the shorter putts, still need to get used to it on longer lags. I feel like I could use my old putter no problem but I like the alignment and weight on the spider. Putters are unique as you could probably do just as well with one from 1962 as one from 2022 if you practiced enough.

I’ve rolled them all, and the Toulon (2022 models) roll better than anything out there. Do yourself a favor and on actual greens do a head to head vs other brands and you will see your putts hold their line and they roll soooo smooth with those Toulons.

  • @johnk.atchley5079
    @johnk.atchley5079 2 роки тому

Had a long comment but somehow it deleted itself. So just a short version. Agree with others that golf has become too expensive. It can cost as much as $3,600 to put together a complete set of top of the line clubs, starting with a $580 driver, $350 wood, $350 5 wood or $280 utility club, $1,300 for 4-PW irons, GW, SW and LW at $150 each, and one of those $400 putters. Compare that with another popular sport, tennis. A very good racket can be had for $150, and even a top of the line pro level racket like the Wilson Pro Staff RF97 used by Roger Federer costs only $279 plus maybe $50-$75 for premium strings and labor, or $355. That one racket is all you need to play a complete 3 to 6 set 4 or 5 hour match in which the racket is used hundreds of times. In contrast, that $550 driver is used at most 14 times in a 4-5 hour round. As for putters, I find I can get pretty much the same results with my original Odyssey 2 ball White Hot face that cost $169,99, or my Odyssey 2-ball T shape putter with the black face, or my Cleveland Huntington Beach 4 blade putter that cost $130, or even my Acushnet John Reuter Bulls Eye putter that I've had for about 60 years. The only way most average players can afford golf equipment is to buy used clubs in good condition from 2 to 4 versions prior to the latest new ones.

I play a lot of old putters (and clubs) but when I'm playing serious rounds I use an old Hogan Radial putter and from 25' I can miss them that close. Two dollars at local thrift store. Don't get me wrong, I really like your videos and pay attention to your advice, but as you say putters are very individual and as my wife says, I'm pretty cheap. I consider it frugal but she's probably right.

Pricing alongside Scotty ..... interesting. I know it's how a putter performers BUT Scotty's do have a very high perceived "bag factor" and that is just a fact. I've got a new Odyssey putter that looks good, I've got a new Scotty, can I have a look (hold it). A Scotty does make you look a serious golfer and a putter you aspire to. By the way I don't have a Scotty I have a Odyssey 2 ball I've played for 20+ years :)

I play 33 ins putters, all odyssey putters are way to light for me at that length. You can't even buy the weight kits to adjust swing weight, unless you get copy weights from China which can ruin the thread. Only Evnroll, Scotty and T/Made swing weight putters to my knowledge.

Funny enough i Went for a putter fitting today (Clarks Golf), i currently use a older TM spider, Wanted something like a scotty/evnroll more of a want than need. After 10 putts ranging around 0.1 to 0.3 instantly was told its fine don't change it. But I can try something else should i wish. All the numbers showed nothing was close in what I liked. Like you said what works for me won't work for you in putters. Get a honest fitting and see the numbers it could save you a couple £100 like me, to put towards lessons and confidence its correct.

Evnroll- best club I purchased (ER5). Saw my putt averages drop by 3 strokes 36 to 33 over the course of the summer. Had a few sub 30 putt rounds. You won’t regret it. Distance control tech they market is real and I’m usually not one to buy into that stuff…especially with putters

That “Eleven” is no where close to a traditional mallet. A traditional mallet is like a blade with a rounded back. A putter with wings and grooves cut into those wings is nothing even close to traditional. You’ve been drinking the new golf coffee way too much so, that you have forgotten what a mallet looked like just 10 years ago.

Sorry, can’t watch this. Anyone in any weather who tries to review putters, is my opinion, a fool. It would not matter if it was Tiger Woods, it would be of no use. We all know that the putter is the one club that is the most personal to select. Whether it be a Scottie or another brand. Whether it is a blade or a mallet or something in between. You may favor one putter and another person thinks your crazy. So, stay away from doing putters.
