Greg great review - I am awaiting the DB sound version so thanks for given a flavour of what’s to come. I had also pre-ordered the HST Inter City 125 train set and that arrived today 🎉 so have had that to occupy myself while I wait for the 66.
Such a hard life!! Enjoy the HST set - but the 66 is worth the wait...
The BR Blue livery looks fantastic. I've been playing with my 66 for a few days now and I think it might just be the best TT loco I've got so far! Happy New Year to you when it comes!
I've not had much chance to really get to know it yet, but very impressed with what I have seen. Still have my soft spot for the Class 50 though! Thanks for watching Dave.
Your review had more than 'flourishes of excellence'. Very thorough review. The loco was tested presumably before a full running in, which makes it very impressive indeed.
Thank you very much! Hope you enjoyed the side references to Messrs Hodge and Shedd too! Happy New Year Trevor.
@mactrains indeed, but not ones in my small library yet. How can I squeeze in more?
Can we have a printed Greg or Peachey as drivers?!?
@@lukestevens8735 now there’s an idea
@@PeachyTT120 Pre-fitted in loco's purchased from TMC?!?
That may not be good for public health...!
@@lukestevens8735 🤣🤣
I’d buy that. How about just a layout full of Greg’s and Peaches? Driving the train, passengers in the carriage even running down the platform to catch the train.
I did as you mention. I ordered my DB version in Feb 2023 and got it for £85ish with the TT discount. It’s phenomenal value for money at that price and a lovely model. I love the review & updates, please, please, keep them coming and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for TT for 2025. 😀
Very kind of you Phil - I have greatly enjoyed the UA-cam Sid eof thigns -w ay more than I expected to - so yes I hope to keep them coming when I get the chance.
Thanks for the review. It's even better running on the HM7000. I've was one of the lucky ones who pre-ordered, and what a bargain i got. The only issues i have is one of the cab lights not working on the BR blue. Unfortunately, it'll be a send back for Hornby to sort out. Also got the GBRf Cromer, and it's a lovely model and a great runner.
Totally agree that the pre-orders were a bargain - until I get a spare HM7k chip I can't tell if the cab lights are working - here's hoping yours is a one-off. Thanks for watching.
The only problem i had was the sanding pipes were touching the bogie.they bend back quite easily but be careful.
They are incredibly close tolerances. Thanks for taking time to comment bbej
Hi Greg. etched nameplates glued on changed buffer beams to reseal pack. Getting cromer and db variants too and one for repaint in freightliner when container wagons come out. Caroline.
Sounds excellent Caroline - Happy New Year to you!
Hi Greg. one of 789s bogies is lighter than the other and came off on sharp corners.on checking a piece of garden dross was under the middle wheel. Ran for 1hr each way . new old 08 ran for 2 hours no problem. However the blue hst went up and down Acton no problem. However went round test track 4 times stopped and melted. Going to check out the damage later. Hopefully faulty dcc board. Caroline.
Have you sound fitted the HST - some folk have commented on the heat off sugar cube speakers on the forum
Hi Greg the hst was only bought on xmas eve and not altered at all. caroline. Have contacted hornby tech today and will await their reply later in week. caroline.
Nice review Greg, I'm impressed with my 66 BR Retro I got from Hornby. Just waiting for my others from TMC, how dare Peachy have time off over Christmas! Bah Humbug to him 🤣 In all seriousness I think now we're seeing the benchmark quality from Hornby when it comes to TT:120. It gives me good vibes for the J50, Class 37s and Class 31s. As a bonus when you fit a sound decoder it does some 'bonus' horn tunes 1. This Old Man and 2. Imperial March ( Darth Vaders Theme).
Lol - didn't know about the bonus tracks - will be giving that a try for sure! Hopefully Peachy will be back on track (groan) soon!
Top stuff lad!
Glad you approve sir! Thanks for your help
I've pre-ordered DB DCC, hope to see it after holidays 👍👍
Hope you enjoy it!
Great video Greg. Some great close ups with your camera showing of detail you can never see with a naked eye. The models just keep getting better from Hornby in TT120.
I'd love a proper macro lens - some of the close detailing is so fine - but my phone does do a decent job. Thanks for watching Anth and keep up your own stuff. Saw your wee lad enjoying his Christmas set - looked like a grand day of fun!
@ you definitely picked up some great detail on your video. I will do thank Greg. Jacob had a great day and is still playing away. Going through some batteries 😂. Happy new year and all the best mate. Anth 👍
👍
Great video, I like the clip on body as I said to peachy it’s the future
As long as it proves robust I have no issue with it at all.
Great review.
So much detail.
A really smart looking loco.
Very impressive.
How hard are resealable bags Hornby?
I just got a 65 year old Tri-ang TT Dock Shunter in BR Green on my channel.
Way less detail to the TT120 version but still a classic.
Happy New Year. 🎉
All the best for 2025.
Happy modelling.
That old Dock Shunter is a brilliant wee loco - so much grunt for something so small. Loved it. A TT120 one would be fun...!
Great review of a great looking loco. Currently, my wallet says NO but my heart says YES, YES, YES, YES, YES. Just out of interest, do you have a Tolstoy test perchance?
Happy new year. 🥳🎉🎆🥳🎉🎆🥳🎉
Lol - Tolstoy tests can be useful - but only if they agree with your heart! And a happy new year to you too!
I'm running era 3,4 and 5, should I get one? 🤔Since 'Evening Star' was built in 2015. Of course I should.🤣
Now thats my kind of logic David...!
Great review. On the fence with the tt120. Got a large oo gauge collection and loft layout years of work. But really like the idea of the 120 stuff. Looks cracking. And the class 66 is well by far my favourite class of loco. Might have a look a a small shutting layout for the future.
Thanks Grah - I too was fully OO until recently. But I am impressed with the TT stuff so far. Certainly wouldn't be abandoning OO but maybe a wee shunting shelf layout to dip your toe int he water would work well - Hornby are talking about a new budget friendly starter set later in 2025.
Lucky you, mine is still a long time coming. It was sent on the 23rd, but it's been left for Christmas and the interim storage hasn't been updated yet.
There was quite a lot of oil on the axle frame.
It's definitely recommended to wipe off the excess grease with a kitchen towel. There's a big risk of touching the surface and transferring the oil to the housing. The oil is too aggressive towards the paintwork.
Ouch - thats a long slow wait ilmson - hope it gets there soon!
I find a ruler is better for opening the flap. Nice and flat so spreads the load and doesn’t tear anything
I use the Hornby rerailer tool, place it flat along the short end with the end 'hook' in the box, rotate by 90 degrees and then pull.
Ah yes but you are forgetting to account for the 'eagerness factor'! 🤣
These locos look absolutely beautiful.
They really do and this is something I’d consider for sure
But not setting out that style of running… yet 🤔
Then again my railway I’ll run what I like
But, the details, the weight, the quality, the overall performance (seen thus far) this is crying out to be purchased by so many
This is the standard Hornby should be doing as standard for TT
Not changing the prices of things, with the same port quality and inconsistencies we have seen.
I have two locos I need but I really want a 66 now I’ve been writing this. My brain is telling me to go for it
But I need the other two first
What do I do 😂
Superb video and review, really looking forward to the hm7000 fit with all light options, sounds, cab interior look.
Think it might need a little colour added?
That’s what we need to see
Thanks so much for your kind words - hugely appreciate the feedback folk have given.
Excellent review, don’t know wether to get one or hold out for the 37, so tempted though
If you can justify the era then they are excellent. Think the 37 is a fair bit away yet.
I don’t mind mixing it up a bit , but most of my spare change is going on the layout at the moment, so I’ll see what’s in Januarys announcement, maybe something good and I need more wagons!!! Hornby are you
Listening!!!
I feel sure they will get the supply chain more robust for wagons this year - it seems such a vital thing to get right.
Preordered mine still not had them yet not happy
When did you pre-order Ian? In theory they are meant to dispatch them in the order in which they were placed, but I have heard of some variables.
@ have phoned them and should be out soon they were sound fitted and she said they were coming in Christmas Eve but with holidays and everything like checks will be next week now
Ah yes, the sound fitted ones were at least a week behind - seems they were on a container ship that counted get a mooring for a week, so was stuck just off shore. Tantalisingly close...!
@ yes been waiting for them yours dose look very good I’ve been greedy and got two. Actually just found your wood loads on eBay got three of them cheers happy new year 👍
9v battery test ONLY IF IT'S DC.. 9v (I'm pretty sure) will destroy the chip on the DCC version when it arrives 😮
Hi Ken - yes this is DC only for now - but I don't think the 9v will do any damage to an HM7000 chip - they are designed to work off a steady 12v DC supply aren't they? Not that it would move at all - it would need the dcc coding via bluetooth or rail to actually try and run. Happy New Year!
If hornby could do class 59 in silver then yes I would have one
That would look good!
My £80 one is on the way.
Absolute bargain!
Hi Greg mine out on test this pm. caroline
Great
It's a lovely model but not for me as I'm doing 70s and 80s. Just waiting for 31 37 47.
If Hornby keep up this standard then they won't disappoint.
Puts their oo version to shame
A fellow Greg! Thanks for commenting - not tried the 00 version, but this is certainly excellent.
