    Just got into fishing a few years ago and live in northern MN myself. Watching this video to see how it goes. Its pretty damn funny that my accent would come back within 10 minutes of talking with you guys though lol. Thanks for the video! I'll have to give it a go for the first time this winter.

    It's been a slow hard grind on my local walleye lake in Wyoming......so frustrating at times. Just have to keep grinding. It's weird because last winter was really good for early ice walleye on the same reservoir......

    Off the chart video, you guys should start a stand up fishing comedy show that sturgeon fight was hilarious...I’m in trouble now, I spilled coffee on the just washed and ironed table cloth while laughing at your side comedy!! Educational as always.....

    You guys should try fishing out of the west side of the lake, go straight out of warroad about 3/4 of a mile and catch the fish that are coming out of the river after the shiner run in the warroad river As well as 5 mile reef, rudys reef, the two DNR reefs, whiskey flats and of course the basin. You will find that you catch more walleye the sauger, a larger average size, as well as more jumbo perch and big northern. The chances of sturgeon and big crappie exist just as well. Skip using jigging spoons altogether instead opting to use tungsten in the 5mm, 6mm, and 8mm sizes with a live chub hooked under the skin next to the dorsal fin with the hook coming out behind the dorsal. You will have increased hook ups, you will catch A Lot more fish then spoons, and you will get a lot nicer fish. Just a tip from a local that is also a guide on LOTW

    I don't usually fish too deep of water, but are those deeper basin walleyes able to release air from their swim bladders like a whitefish or laker?

      We caught a lot of fish with most of them in the 13-18 inch range with a few in the 20-24" range as well. Most came on spoons, Orange or chartreuse tinglers or tumblers in 1/8 oz tipped with red spikes.

    They were not in shallow due to the dirty water. Not the cold front. Dirty water extended out to about 14 feet. Once you get out a little deeper the bite was steady.

    Since we don't have walleye or sauger where I live my question is what is the difference between the species?? They look pretty much the same. Legitimate question.

    • @steve-o9720
      @steve-o9720 4 роки тому +1

      The sauger is a cousin of the walleye. Saugers have black spots on their dorsal fin and they lack the white patch on their tail that a walleye would have. Also slight color variations.

    • @dudley0826
      @dudley0826 4 роки тому +1

      Also walleye are in general a lot larger

    • @MATTLEism
      @MATTLEism 4 роки тому +1

      Thanks you guys I appreciate the info!!! There has been rumor about walleye up north in my state but that's all it's been. No evidence yet. They would survive here for sure but our state is really protective of our natural resources so I doubt it would Happen. Grateful for them being protective of our state but I wouldn't mind having a new species of fish to catch and eat hahaha it's trout country where I live.

    • @matdaigle8686
      @matdaigle8686 4 роки тому +2

      Great skimmer. 2 upgrades I did with mine is I put a thick clear coat over the handle. For some reason the wood comes untreated. This allows the ruler to not wear off and protects the handle from water. Second thing is I filled in the two female threads with super glue then sprinkled backing powder on it. I think this works better then lock tite.
