A quick, easy guide on how to set up your brand new Octopus Home Mini so that you can view your energy usage in real-time through your Octopus dashboard or App.
Mine just flashes pink, I left it for an hour but didn't change, went through the reset procedure but it returned to flashing pink. I can't find anything that tells me what flashing pink actually means, is it a fault condition?
Same here, contacting octopus via phone. I joined in December, it took till march to admit I needed a new electricity meter, I've still not been charged for electricity and since it was installed my gas meter stopped reporting any data. My octopus mini arrived today, flashes pink, reset does nothing and I'm losing my ind slightly. Starting to regret having moved energy companies!
Hey both. 👋 Could you send me a message on octo.ps/nudge so I can look into what's happening with your mini's? Let's see what's needed to get them reporting. 👀
I am able to read the daily usage for every 30mins on the app, why would I need this ? Yes, not for current day,but I can read it for yesterday on the app. So what difference would the Mini make? I mean , you can just wait 24 hours and check .
So does the mini have to be within bluetooth range of my phone to function? If not, why does BT have to remain on? If has to be in range that's daft as will always be connected to my wifi via the nearest mesh point.
I can't get it to work. I had it stuck on a green LED for ages. That was getting nowhere. So I reset it. Now it is stuck on a flashing blue LED, even though it is connected to WiFi.
Hi Graeme, I'd like to take a closer look at this for you and help get this sorted. Can you pop us your details via the following link and I'll reach out to you shortly to help? 👉 octo.ps/fb-help.
Very excited to get mine but the mini automatically selects my 5 Ghz WiFi network and then tells me it can't use 5GHz networks which seems a bit perverse... I can't see how to enter/select the 2.4GHz local network that is also available so I it doesn't seem easily usable in my dual WiF home... Update - I managed to disable the 5GHz frequency briefly so the mini had no option but to auto-select WiFi it could use. From there is was smooth and simple. Sad it can't graph export history. I export most of the day so my graphs are a somewhat dull "blank page". Still, a pretty darn good item especially as this sort of beta product that is hardly likely to have much of a development budget. Small glitch but otherwise Kudos Octopus.
Thanks for sharing your feedback and your triage process, Chris! The Mini is still a beta product and we're hard at work to improve it's efficiency and displays down the line. 🐙
mine just won't connect to the wifi, yes it is 2.4Ghz. looking at the comments it looks like I'm not the only one with issues. not done a lot of testing Octopus?
@@OctopusEnergy I have sent a request in plus chat on Twitter. My issue is now my API data is not being pulled through. I can see use on my smart meter display but no data on Octopus App, Loop or OctoAid so the mini must have messed up my smart meters! Really had high hopes but left with nothing but issues 😞
Do I have to be on the same network as the home mini? I have a VLAN for all my iot gear but my phone talks to our main network. So my question is is the data going to octopus cloud then downloaded by the app or is it directly connecting to device from phone
Do you have a seperate SSID for your Iot vlan? It might be worth having a separate SSID, just makes this kind of configuration easier. And more than likely, the home mini is sending data to octopus, as they're using the home mini for real time data, rather than relying on the LoRaWan in smart meters. Your phone is just viewing that data from your octopus account. I don't suspect there's gonna need to be direct connection between your phone and the home mini after you set up, but i could be wrong
Mine won't connect to my WiFi no matter how many times I try. Confirmed password is correct, tried splitting the bands between 2.4 and 5, reset device. Nothing. Disappointing and frustrating but I guess that's a beta product for you
Left it in a box for a week, tried it again today, WiFi connected. No idea what was wrong. Just waiting to see if it'll pick up my meter in the room below where the mini is
