Just trying to be helpful not being a critic. I like to coat those rubber case type seals with anaerobic gasket sealer on the O.D bore they never seen to fit tight and I have had them pop out on their own. I also fill the inside of the seal with grease to help keep the internal lip spring from popping off. Hope that helps someone.
I agree. I usually use some #2 permatex on the outside but it went in farther than I thought it would at first and I didn’t want to try to get it back out and do that. I thought the same thing during editing though, I hope it stays.
I was glad to see this video. I had my Oliver mechanic friend Joe change one for me a couple years ago when he was working on some other things on my 1650. It's actually up at his shop now - he's changing those 4 brass bushings that go in the upright spindles in the wide front. They are pretty bad.
Thanks! I changed a set of those bushings on a 550 several years ago for a customer. It was so bad I ended up having to get new outer axles because I couldn’t get the spindles out of the old ones. They wore so badly and we’re so tight the spindle wouldn’t come out. It will make a big difference when you get it back. It’s worth the investment.
Watched Chris do lower seal this morning and you doing upper seal tonight. Best of both worlds. Lol You guys gonna do " Dirt, Grain and Steel " plow day April 9th?
When we went to do these seals on our 2255 we had to make new bushings as well. Turned into quite the project. I think you need to get a lotto ticket being that arm came off so easily.
I think the next go round it will need bushings. They’re not available so I figured I’d try this first. I’m amazed that arm came off as well, but I think I did my time on that lift housing bolt 🤣🤣🤣
Super informative video. I desperately need to replace mine on my 1555. For the live of me, I can not find the part! I know its likely different, but where did you source this seal?

Thanks! I normally don’t like to use antiseize but if I do it’s on things that don’t move once tightened. On things that “float” like these pins, I’d rather use grease. I’m not sure what the wear qualities are of anti seize but I’m sure it’s not as good as a lubricant.
I often wonder if the man who came up with the idea for the screwdriver ever realized how many patents he missed out on by designating it as a device for turning screws

It could get interesting!
I'm only halfway through this video and have already said "that's what she said" four times.

Good job. I did learn quite a lot here! Thanks for the video and sharing it. Do you prefer grease over anti seize for pins like this?

Ross, what grease are you using?

🤣 Yeah, it’s a tool of many more uses than just driving screws!
🧑🏽🔧🧑🏽🔧👍
Thanks!!
