BRIBIE ISLAND BREAKTHROUGH Pumicestone Passage - the Power of Nature 4K : Australia

- The power of Mother Nature shows the ocean & tides totally changing a marine landscape.
Pumicestone Passage has undergone a major & rapid transformation of its northern seaway entrance to the Pacific Ocean.
In early January 2022, the arrival of Cyclone Seth off the coast created massive swells, and together with king tides, a breakthrough occurred to the northern Bribie Island ithamus.
And now, 9 months later, there is an entirely new sea entrance which is over 800 metres wide.
This transition has also stopped tidal flow through the previous entrance at Caloundra to the north, with sand bars now blocking this seaway to vessels.
This documentary style video compares imagery from 3 years ago with today, and shows this dramatic change to the passage seaway.
Correction - a WW2 gun turret is noted in this video, however it is actually a shipping light beacon tower which was abandoned in 2018.
Bribie Island is the smallest and most northerly of three major sand islands forming the coastline that shelters the northern part of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia.
The others are Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island.
Bribie Island is 34 kilometres (21 miles) long, and 8 kilometres (5 miles) at its widest.
Bribie Island hugs the coastline and tapers to a long spit at its most northern point near Caloundra, and is separated from the mainland by Pumicestone Passage.
The ocean side of the island is somewhat sheltered from prevailing winds by Moreton Island and associated sand banks and has only a small surf break. The lee side is calm, with white sandy beaches in the south. Most of the island is uninhabited national park (55.8 square kilometres or 21.5 square miles) and pine forestry plantations.
Pumicestone Passage is a 35 kilometre ecological marvel and a waterway wonderland of fun, from its northern mouth opening into the ocean off the Caloundra coastline, to its southern end filtering into Deception Bay.
I took a small tinnie runabout to the leeward side of Bribie Island to capture most of this footage.

Incredible! That tower still there!
Thanks, I later found out that it is a disused shipping light beacon tower.
I put a note in my video comments.
@ozstrayapanoramas8610 In the seventies, that beacon tower was halfway between the passage and the ocean
unbelievable, nice you kept the 3 years old shots
It's astounding what mother nature can do. The marine landscape at this location has totally changed over the course of 9 months.
beautiful footage great edit
Thanks very much
This video certainly shows us the power of nature. Well captured & documented with beautiful vision and sound as usual.
Thanks Michael, glad you enjoyed
Wow! Superb video Ross. Nature ALWAYS wins. I’m amazed the tower is still there!
Yes, the tower has been standing for some 70 odd years
As usual, another great video
Thanks buddy
Very nice!
Thankyou
The power of mother nature. We had a break here on Long Island, NY for 4 years. It now almost closed up again.
This Bribie Island break is expected to eventually move up to where the previous entrance was, about 1 mile north. May take a few years.
Fascinating story, great video work. Cheers
Thanks buddy

Thanks, the island breakthrough was big news here
@@ozstrayapanoramas8610 I can imagine it was. It's crazy what the force of water can do.
@@WindWalkerDrones Fort Myers FL is also testament to the power of the sea
@@ozstrayapanoramas8610 It definitely is. 🙁
Great video but the four leg structure you refer to as a WW 2 gun tower was a navigation beacon abandoned in 2018 .
Thanks for the heads up
