    I think it will be a fun restoration, I'm interested! Happy birthday, you have a good brother, he knew exactly what to get you. I love old newspapers too, by the way, I was trying to read what was on the page you displayed. Very humbling to see a marriage announcement for two young people who have likely been gone for years. Life is short, grab all the trailers you can get!

      I really was shocked that he got it for me. I certainly was surprised. lol I enjoy the old newspapers as well. I didn’t notice the announcement, I was to focused on the trailer. lol I said I wasn’t going to put a whole page in the video but then I decided to because I think a full view of the add on the page showed the add in context better. I’m glad you enjoyed the video buddy!

    Red Clay Traveler is a young man, with an old man's soul. I used to be that guy....now my age has caught up with my soul. Would love to see more of the trailer, and thanks for the drive-by on the wood pile. I see the oak has already been processed and started to season. The southern man does not let heat get in the way of getting the job done.

    I just inherited the same trailer as the second Knox one you showed. It belonged to my grandpa who passed away a few months ago at the age of 105. Im not sure the back story on how he got the trailer, but my dad said he used it for hunting and camping trips for as long as he could remember (in the late 50s and 60s).
    My husband is working on restoring it back to its former glory. Not sure yet on how we are going to restore the back tailgate hinges, they are rusted but still work. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
    Can’t want to see how yours turns out!

      That is so awesome! I’m glad to hear that you get to have such a cool piece of family history! I’m sorry to hear about your loss but I’m sure your grandpa would approve of yall restoring it and keeping it alive for years to come! I have seen similar tailgates repaired by using pipe to replace part or all of the bottom section. Knox tailgates are very similar to Willys tailgates as far as that goes. If the hinge part that goes into the tailgate is rotted that might be a little more elaborate but honestly it doesn’t have to be exact as long as it works. I’m hoping to get to my trailer soon, maybe this winter. My brothers trailer will go a lot faster hopefully. Thank you for your comment!

      The gift was totally surprising to me! Then to find another so soon for my brother was really unexpected. I have looked for Knox trailers for years and never found one.

    nice score!!!..i've been looking for a military or equivalent to tow behind my old willys for years now...i have never come across one yet...i think i'm just going to build a replica...the old maytags of yesteryear used nice thick steel..:)

      A custom one would be pretty cool. If you check market place usually a few trailers are on there. Problem is they are always a long way off. lol

    That's neat. I have an old Allstate that I bought ages ago. The TC 3 design especially the Bantam went to about the end of the Korean war but the Overland crowd has pushed the prices into the stratosphere. I have a Vietnam era one but it is much heavier and not pulled loaded or stopped with a little CJ.

    • @redclaytraveler1949
      @redclaytraveler1949  4 місяці тому

      The prices are usually really high, I have seen a few exceptions. I like them all, which is problem. lol I do see a lot of the Vietnam era trailers for sale but I’m usually looking for the older models. I appreciate the comment buddy!

    The dimpled steel is i believe called tread plate. Cool trailer. Looks like the military at first glance. Red with black fenders sounds familiar but i think diamond t did that on some trucks. Guy up here has 3 of the diamonds and i think they are that way. If i ever saw a knox i didnt know it. Name doesnt ring a bell. Great find.

    Kool trailers !! I myself would rather have almost anything Older , normally build better , built to last !! That metal in the 2nd knox, was very similar to the metal in the bed of a 51 Ford f1 truck i had back in the late 80's & as the truck went it had ,like 27 grease fittings , todays stuff dont know what a grease fitting is !! Disposable crap !! Enjoyed the video & would enjoy seeing them be restored !! Thanks & Take Care !!

    Their is a company that reproduces a trailer similar to it like the military ones. But they are expensive. I want one to use behind my jeep to camp out of and hunting

      The reproduction military trailer bodies and trailers are nice, but they are expensive. I keep seeing military jeep trailers from WW2 to Vietnam on marketplace occasionally and some are pretty reasonable.
