- Niall Myant-Best is back to report on the main headlines from Leg 3, with the biggest development being Team Holcim-PRB's loss of the leading position! With Kevin Escoffier's boat also dealing with wear and tear, it seems that our 4 IMOCA crews are on even footing as they continue towards Itajaí.

Damien Saguin is just, simply, an extraordinary man
Best offshore sailing, best covering on the internet!
Kind of puts my hand sewn luff tapes on a recut (blown out) Challenge 67 heavy kite into perspective. This is extraordinary improvisation. 11th hour main is a treat.
Another super episode Niall, thank you; you’re presentational skills are so compelling! Great music too, loved the strings at the end.
Yes, I agree with all above, but let's not forget the amazing footage provided by the teams! Great work!
You guys do such a great job with these videos. Unbelievable that after 21 days and many thousands of miles that all 4 boats are just a few miles apart, and 1st and 2nd are just fractions of a mile apart.
This show is such a big help to me to understand, what is going on. Thank you for the informations in addition with perfect explaining of the backgrounds.
Another great show. Excellent production and commentary. More and more people will be watching The Ocean Race and inspiring more people to sail.
Niall, you are a real star! We are following the race on all available channels, but your commentary is pulling it all together for the us, sitting comfortably at home. I would suggest, you would consider doing this for a living, ... but trust that you already do so and be recognized enought for the outstanding job. ;-)
Excellent reporting as always. Well done and thank you and your team. 👏
Kudos to 11th hour racing team for coming up with a way to repair that mainsail! I hope it holds together :)
insane. i can't even fix the kitchen sink and these guys are doing major repairs in the middle of the ocean
Not too many craftsmen to call near point Nemo.
The innovative thought and design of repairs using minimum tools on these four remaining yachts is mind blowing and shows us all that we don’t need to rely on AI to write the answers for us.
Stay safe guys and girls, we care for you all
Such amazing coverage!!! Great teamwork!! Can you add an update on how the ice limits are being updated over the race? As the fleet round the north bulge this is really intriguing
Great suspense. Great leg. Great race. Bon Voyage around the horn.
How beautiful is to see all the boats so close at this point
Nice clear presentation Mr..... proffesionell and concice
So fortunate that the weather has allowed all the teams time to tidy up.
This is going to be a heck of a race from here!
Great insights into the why of so many decision seen on the tracker - thank you.
Unbelievable, that after the nautical miles sailed all boats are so close. Phenomenal coverage, the 11th Hour Team certainly had many hours of fixes aboard. Let's hope they stay together until reaching port.
Thanks so much, great presentation and very helpful to a passionate, non-sailing fan!
You may want to show the wind fields so that we can visualize it better!
Thank you for translating the finger puppet play at Biotherm. I love it 😀.
Best presenter in sports! Thanks for this! Great race!
Wonderful update. The sailors still seem to be in good spirit. This race is brutal on the psyche.
Do they have a manual way to move the keel?
I don't think I understand the point that the main is solely responsible for pulling the mast back. The boat has running back stays and I think we see the mast shake forward on every nose dive. The reason I'd think you'd use a fractional headsail would be so that a masthead sail doesn't overpower a reefed main and create a leeward helm, which then requires a draggy rudder to counteract. Oh, and BTW, she's "Action!" Kuiper now!
You talk about the problems the yachts of previous races have had, but no mention of John Fisher being lost overboard.
It would be good to know what preventive measures are being made nowadays if such a thing would happen. I know the sailers fasten themselves to the boat when being out on deck. Still an accident could happen. Maybe some device giving accurate position of the person in water etc. Would be good to now how that accident has altered and enhanced safety measures.
In the middle of nowhere! Soon to gibe towards Cape Horn. Fascinating sailing indeed!"
whats this wonderful strings music at the end ?
@ The Ocean Race
Thanks, great video!
One question though, why is there almost no footage of Malizia?
Sometimes we get more content from some than from others :)
We follow these videos and the teams daily, Disney and Netflix are canceled - thank you.
Hi Niall thanks for your lovely and enthusiatic comments and explanations. ?????? I have a question for you: at 11th Hour there is mostly always someone sitting at the side holding permanently holding a rope in his/her hands and looking out for???? Whats that job for? No other team has someone in this position.
That sailor has a hand on the sheet, ready to ease it if needed. This shows they are pushing the boat close to the limit where a split second action might be needed.
💯
Straighter, stiffer and a little bit more reliable, how we all wish life was easy
What is that thing at the top of the mast with the 3 cameras ?
That is the OSCAR collision warning system, which scans the area ahead of the boat and sets off an alarm down below if need be.
the boats do have running backstays no? if so why is the structural support from the main so necessary?
Hi Ryde, yes they do. Long story short: when reefed they have to use the runners differently so less support.
🇿🇦👍🏻
Why is the weather this time around so light. Its so strange being the southern ocean and seeing conditions like this. Is this climate change related just asking
Very good question to which we do not have a definitive answer. There are certainly more calm patches than were expected. The rough conditions are still there, but the fleet seems to lucky enough to avoid them. The ice limit has to be further north this season which pushes the fleet north of the worst conditions.
min 3:55 flying
Wow so fast but all those bits breaking off . Cutting edge experiments flimsy fast .
When I remember the wonderful reports and detailed analysiert and explanations by Andi Robertson at the Vendee Globe, my heart bleeds at these "show clips". Again and again I hope for interesting backgrounds and explanations from Niall Myant-Best and then I am disappointed about the usually only exaggeratedly lurid series of superlatives with weak content and without real expertise.
The Ocean Race would really deserves more and better reporting!
