I’m an old fart raced there back in the late 60s and early seventies obviously the speeds are so much faster now. When you’re actually racing you don’t notice the speed due to concentrating so hard. It’s a time trial as such not a race you set off at 10s intervals The Senior TT, a single event in the Isle of Man TT calendar, runs six laps of the Mountain Course for a total race length over 226 miles. I don’t know why but in earlier races in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018 the racers were riding very fast as compared to 2019 or 2020 and afterwards. I don’t know but that’s what it looked like to me after watching this video. Is it because of the passion of racing bikes declining or courage factor nowadays in new riders ?

The Isle of Man is an island situated in the Irish Sea between Ireland and Britain. It has its own local parliament and government though it exists under the governance of the UK as a Crown colony. The TT races are a hugely popular annual event bringing thousands upon thousands of competitors and spectators to the island every year. The TT races are notorious for the danger involved, with more than 100 people, riders and spectators, being killed over the last century. Roads are closed especially for the TT races, and they draw the greatest bike riders from all across the globe, who compete for the highest honour of being TT champion. Sadly, the races have claimed the lives of some of the greatest champions who ever competed for the TT.

The Isle of Man is THE road racing of history. It is a destination and back in the late 80's, early 90's several Northern CA racers made the trek to race. Some with sidecars, but most on their race bikes. 130 turns on 37 miles of closed road. The road opens each day to traffic after the racing is complete. This and the Goodwood Festival of Speed are two destination events on the bucket list.

It’s the oldest motorcycle race in the world. During the two weeks of the meet, when there is no race use of the road any road licensed rider can run it without speed restrictions. Riding bikes aren't as fun as they use to be with everyone on their cell phone nowadays. It got so scary to be sitting in a turn lane at a busy intersection with cars whizzing by you at 50 and 60 mph that I just couldn't take it anymore. Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived in Chorlton, Manchester, England, until the late 1950s. There, in 1955, they formed the skiffle/rock and roll group the Rattlesnakes. The family then moved to Redcliffe, in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia, later to Cribb Island. After achieving their first chart successes in Australia as the Bee Gees, they returned to the UK in January 1967, when producer Robert Stigwood began promoting them to a worldwide audience.

Between 1907 and 2023, there have been 156 fatalities during official practices or races on the Snaefell Mountain Course, and 269 total fatalities/ The deadliest year was 2005, when 11 people died; three riders and one marshal died during the June race, and six riders and one course bystander died during the Manx Grand Prix in August/September 2005. Since 1937, the only year in which races were held but no fatalities occurred was 1982.

A few years ago a friend of mine was working hospitality at the Singapore Grand Prix ( Formula 1 ) and was located just beyond the start / finish straight . She videoed the start of the race and I timed all 20 cars went past in just THREE seconds . The first few hundered meters is the only point in the race where all 20 cars will be together as they obviously spread out as the race progresses .

"Faster" is used as a soundtrack for the Utube video "Irish Road Warriors" one of their races happen on the IOM. Also on Utube U can find videos of of the same racers running a race in the middle of the Macau China. Both great videos, The prize money for the feature race. The Senior TT in 2024 was only like $24 000 US. The IOM track, 1 lap covers 34.7 miles and 6 laps long and 207 miles in length and 280 corners per lap.. The 1st race was in 1907. Since then, something like 280 racers, riders and spectators have died during the 2 weeks of the TT.

Two weeks of practice and two weeks of racing in IOM.
IOM circuit is 26 miles and they do 6 laps.

TT week on the Island is over 2 weeks the first week is practice week where the roads are closed in the middle of the working day so people can get to and from work then the 2nd week is the actual races, as I'm in the building trade i take it as a holiday because driving that week is a task! with all the extra bikes on the road and the detours just to get from A to B as the race coarse is mostly the main roads

A lot of the clips are from the Southern 100, North West 200 and the Ulster GP.
There are two big race meetings on the IOM the TT and the Manx Grand Prix. Both use the same mountain circuit which uses normal roads and is 37.72 miles long. It has well over 200 corners and takes about 3 years to learn it. It has practice week which closes the roads in the evening.
They don't really compete against each other directly they compete against the clock and the fasted time wins. They start at 10 second intervals. The longest race is 6 laps which is 226 miles has 2 pit stops to refuel and change tyres.
The fastest lap is 16 mins 36.1 seconds which is an AVERAGE speed of 136 mph (219 kph). The top speed these guys hit is just over 200 mph. The race record for 6 laps (226 miles) is 1 hour 43 mins 8 seconds.
Its a must for any bike race fan

No margin for error at all. I have done track days on a Honda 1000 twin, but I can’t imagine doing these speeds on normal highways and towns. Tracks are much safer, as all the solid objects that you can hit have been eliminated. Hats off to the competitors.

in 1970 my wife and I entered the 2 1/4 mile IOM hillclimb event .. Jane Wallinger took ladies FTD and new ladies record and I took outright FTD with a record time of 7o something seconds for the 2 1/4 mile standing start event . My top speed approaching Creg Ny Baa pub the opposite way / direction the Bikes race on .was limited to 143mph on the engine rev limiter . With higher gearing My car would have easily exceeded 200mph .Leaving the Creg ny Baa pub corner My car was airborne over the humps in the road .And that was uphill at 143 mph
