I know this will sound a bit corny, but this music in therapy helped me a great deal with my PTSD after the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan. Yeah, I know, but the 'musicology" settled my soul and had me in a good place. I now listen to it in traffic, in the marketplace and when I want to tune out the world and my town. It really helps calm me.
This is more than my childhood. As an adult now, and after hearing this song 100s of times, this is heaven. This song has been playing in the back of my head my whole life. I will always love this song and Enya.
I have a clear memory of hearing this song for the first time. It was a grandparents' summer house in Finland. They were making breakfast, morning sun was shining bright into the large windows across the glittering sea water, and I asked what song this was while it was playing on the radio. I didn't know the answer until years later... and all my grandparents have since been gone. I just remember how good the moment felt.

The first time i heard Orinoco Flow was when i was 17 years old, and i was in a car with 2 other students with a teacher, Mr. Patrick, to get some school stuff, and then this song came on the radio, he immediately turned the volume all the way up in his Opel Kadett. I have never seen anyone enjoy a song as much as Mr. Patrick. I am now 54 and always think of this day when I hear this beautiful song :) Thank you Enya.
I remember as a child back in 1989 hearing this song on the radio, it fascinated me so much that I couldn't stop listening to it, I got goosebumps, I was about 12 years old, today is September 2, 2023, it still fascinates me even more than thirty-four years ago Enya, I thank you a million for composing this authentic marvel and in a million years we will continue to be fascinated, thank you
Same here, I remember hearing this song on the radio or a TV , commercial.... Wow ! beautiful song..!! I didn't learn how to use a computer 🖥️, until 2012, .....so I was able to Google,a lot of my favorite songs.... and some from TV commercials.... 😊
I first heard this song through the static of my car radio in the early 90's and immediately began searching for it, but failed repeatedly. I even bought a White Snake CD at a music store because it had a track on it called "Sail Away," but it wasn't the right song. Fast forward ten years. I got a 3rd shift job and was having a hard time sleeping during the day, so I walked into this tiny music shop that I happened to pass on my way home from somewhere. The store was dark and the only person in it was an odd looking middle-aged woman with piercing green eyes. I told her I needed something relaxing to help me sleep and she said she had just the thing. The woman disappeared and came back with an album called "Watermark" by an artist I had never heard of named Enya. I decided to give it a shot, but when I tried to pay for it she told me the store was closed, (thus the darkness,) and the register was already shut down so I could just take it. On my way home I popped it in. The fourth song, "Storms in Africa," stirred something in my soul, but when I got to track 7 and "Orinoco Flow" played I nearly crashed my car. I had not heard the song even _once_ since that time 10 years earlier, and here it was, without the static, enchantingly beautiful, and free! I decided the next time I was in that town I'd go back and thank that lady profusely and buy every Enya album there was in the store! But when I finally made it back out there 6 months later, the little music shop had vanished and was replaced by a drug store. The whole experience was odd. If it wasn't for the fact that I still have the CD I would think the whole thing was a dream.
flirtwithapokerface Yeah, I didn't know what Whitesnake was. Back then FYE and Strawberries music stores had these mini computers in the aisles. You entered the name of the song you were looking for and it told you what album it was on. There was no way to sample the track before hand. I was way off!
***** I think somebody must have told her that too, because "Sail Away" is tacked on in parenthesis after _Orinico Flow_ on the CD. Maybe the phrase _Orinico Flow_ means something to her personally, and she didn't want to call it Sail Away, even though it would make the song harder to find.
Bro you’re crazy. She is Ireland's best-selling solo artist and second-best-selling artist behind U2, with a discography that has sold 26.5 million certified albums in the United States and an estimated 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Just because you don’t know much about her doesn’t mean she’s under appreciated.
She is as big as U2 !! Back in the late 80s and early 90s she was the best Irish performer. I love Clannad, Cocteau Twins as well. If you don’t know them, then please try to listen to them. Specially Clannad.
That is not right that Enya is depreciated for her invaluable songs. They are a testament to a harmonious life. At the same time, the public prefers to hear junk songs. Enya has had some wonderful music that should be appreciated by everyone.
Some people love to bag on Enya because its very tonally soft. But this song represents such an impressive feat of multi channel audio and mixing, anyone who is serious about music recording has to respect it. Regardless of whether or not Enya is your thing, this song is a masterpeice.
I was thinking exactly the same ! I use this track to demo on Hi-Fi systems or Hometheaters. This track has it all ! Excellent to compare music quality on subwoofers. Speed, thickness, low frequencies extension !
I know absolutely nothing about music and audio stuff. I just know this song has an incredible power for soothing and relaxing, and at the same time I'd say it's rather upbeat. Perfect :)
I also believe that staying with Roma and Nicky for over 30-35 years played a huge role. They all grew together in their skill set. Huge fan....musically and technically.
I mean you release a song like this, just one song this good and you're set for life, most artist can't even come up with one good song their whole life.
One of the greatest orchestrations in musical history. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. The strength, and majesty of this song is undeniable, yet it's free. NO COMMERCIAL FOR THIS EPIC MELODY .
I can play this song when I’m happy, when I’m confused, angry, need to clear my mind.. this song is the sound of angels singing literally on repeat thank you
The first time i heard this was on a Simon Mayo breakfast show. He called it a "very strange record." I didn't think it strange at all, and this was proved when it absolutely SHOT, to number one in the charts, and deservedly so. Enya is someone to be treasured till the end of time.
My husband and I had traveled in the world for one year, 1983-84. It wasn't the norm yet in the USA, but our friends and family were accepting of our world travels. When I heard this song, it brought back memories of places we had been. I love this song! TY
Can you imagine ANYTHING like this getting into the charts today....never mind being a No.1 hit!? In these chaotic and conflicted times, beautiful calming and ethereal music like this is exactly what the world needs! Time has only made me appreciate Enya MORE because of how totally unique and timeless her music is.
This was the favorite song of my grandfather who passed away last weekend. It's so beautiful how a song by such a good singer can convey such a beautiful meaning. thank you Enya for this! ❤❤❤
This song was my Grandma’s chosen song at her funeral, 7 months ago. I had never heard it before then being only 23, but I now love Enya’s songs and this one brings a tear to my eye every single time I hear it 💔
The first time I heard Orinoco Flow I was maybe 10-11y old (born 1980). My father had the original Watercolor vinyl disc (still at my mom's and I forbid her to throw it away). My father loved Enya and he introduced me to her otherworldly songs. He died in 1996, motorbike accident. This would've been our wedding dance father daughter song and, every time I hear it, I cry and think of him in an endearing way. By far, Orinoco Flow is my favourite. Sending love to everyone who listens to it. 💜
I agree ! Enya's songs have such a magical, spiritually soothing- angelically captivating power that is difficult to express in words. Whenever I listen to it, I have the impression that I am either in some beautiful fairy-tale land with elves or other beautiful magical creatures, or I am in a beautiful clearing and I meet a beautiful girl there and this beauty is not only physical but also spiritual and I have a romantic relationship with this otherworldly girl. relationship. And all this makes Enya's songs some of the most beautiful songs in the world for me!
They used to play this in my kindergarten class when it was nap time and I’ve always thought about it but nobody else seemed to remember this song. Im glad I wasn’t imagining it!
That is so true!! My youngest is 16 but he’s non-verbal autistic. A few weeks back he had one of his meltdowns he hasn’t had in a long time(this one got really really bad) and I swear the only thing that would calm him down and help ease his sweet little mind was playing this over and over!!
Heard Enya when I was 5, never recovered! Made the world seem like a magical place, taught me the power of music in a way that could never be undone. So grateful for this song!
Ever listened to or felt anything more ethereal than this offering from Enya before AI replaces 'all that we know'? We're extremely fortunate to not have been born too soon or a tick too late in the expanse of time to bask in the pure melodic soothing of the soul that Enya delivers for us to appreciate. You've blown us away once again Enya with an 'internal peace' that will most assuredly transcend all that life's trials will send our way. May you guide us tomorrow and well on into the future...
Man does this ever bring back childhood memories. I used to fall asleep to this able on my cassette player. Remember being so happy when it was first released on CD. Long before streaming was a thing. Music, specially pieces like this, have the unique capability of unlocking and refreshing memories from ages past. Thank you Enya.
When I’m deep into my painting, I play this song, from Peru to Cebu to the eyes of Babylon, I’m from the Philippine Islands and for Cebu Island to be included in the song is a great tribute to one of the many awesome, paradise like Islands here in the Philippines. I’m involuntarily singing while painting. Thank You Enya.
Orinoco Flow by Enya is a song/music video that will always remain very special to me, safely tucked in a specialised compartment in my heart. I first saw and heard it sometime in 1992 as a 7 y/o on local tv after I arrived home from school. I grew up poor, but I was quite rich in imagination. Geography happened to be one of my favourite subjects plus I also yearned to travel the world which was why the song instantly resonated with me so much the first time I heard/saw it. Almost 2 decades later or when the opportunity presented itself, I finally travelled the world. And, yes, I experienced sailing away through a few cruises in the Caribbean and elsewhere. Been to at least 38 countries thus far. I hope to explore the world some more in the future if life circumstances and finances will permit it. Dream on. You'll also sail away, through hard work and/or opportunities, someday.
She looks so childlike innocent, beautiful like a fairy, and sounds so divine..her songs, music and picturization are simply much ahead of time and out of this world. She was not born but was incarnated by angels.
I have always loved this song. Explains why I was so excited to visit the Orinoco River in Venezuela. I can attest that IT looks nothing like this video. Big, wide and full of floating mats of grass. Amazing grace in its own right.
In Colombia we share the Orinoco with Venezuela, the state of vichada in Colombia …. Were the sikuani tribe thrive snorting the anadenanthera peregrina seeds ( pure dmt ) use for the medicine men to cure he’s community….. and the king of the Orinoco river its Brachyplatystoma filamentosum…. In Venezuela and Colombia we called Valenton… it’s easy to find images the way they called in Brasil piraiba gigante ….its also the king of the Amazon ! Huuuuuuge catfish ! Linda mi Tierra ❤
This is one of my favorite songs by Enya. The songs that this woman does are rather soothing to me, especially when I am in an unnerving situation. What's funny is when I had outpatient surgery in a hospital (where I underwent general anesthesia), I was permitted to listen to my music on my iPod in the OR, all on my iPod and noise canceling headphones. I was still listening to this wonderful Enya song when I had awakened in the recovery room. Thanks Enya for keeping me calm eleven years ago when I would go under the knife in the hospital!
...or perhaps the fact that it has been a third of a century since it was a hit. If you search for "sail away song", it still is at the top of search results, so it's dead easy to find even if you don't know the singer or the title.
@@jayclarke6671 Ah, yes. There were so many other comments about the imagined challenges of finding it, I was thinking along those lines too when I replied, but you are right. There is a reason so much of the music of the 70's and 80's, particularly, keeps getting played and seems a lot longer-lived than most of what has come since. I am a bit of a cultural omnivore myself, enjoying classical music, opera, modernism, 60's pop, old-school jazz, Bluegrass, Breton folk music, ambient, experimental electronic music, 80's pop, and even some of the new stuff, up to and including Eurovision songs. I don't judge anyone's musical tastes, and I like keeping an open mind about cultural expressions of all kinds. I think what I generally respond positively to, though, is when something is done well within its genre and style, and when it feels genuine and sincere. That does admittedly rule out a lot of the 21st Century stuff. I usually use the word "interesting" too as a measure for what I consider good art. And it also means I don't actually like Orinoco Flow so much. I think it's the least interesting song from the album Watermark, and I tend to skip it. It sounds like it was cynically made to be commercial as opposed to being made to express something profound like the rest of the album does far more successfully. Her next album, Shepherd Moons is overall her best. After that, she gradually started repeating herself without really creating anything new, and I lost interest in paying attention to any of her new stuff after "The Memory of Trees" (which I bought on the day of release).
@@jayclarke6671 Hehe. yes, I can imagine what it's like to be 19 in the middle of pandemic lockdowns. Whatever yall want to say, but Enya music definitely belongs to New Age genre since the beginning. If you own BBC The Celts album, it says "NEW AGE MUSIC" written so big in the CD. Later she doesn't admit it, because Rob Dickins told her so. But her music was nominated for Best New Age Recording 7 times, so it IS new age forever.
MrHoundDog Me also, my sis and I would listen to this together when I was a kid, she is basically my mom, and she got a kick out of how much I liked it being that it had been out 8 years by then and I was so little. Anyways, she passed ten years ago.
Reminds me of my beautiful mother and when she'd always play this song when I was young. I'm 21years old now and have recently been faced with the facts of my own and my mothers mortality and there will be a day in my life where she'll no longer be there to accompany me. I know it's the circle of life and all but she's my mom you know? Nobody on this earth will ever love me as much as she does. I dread that day so much and hope it never comes. I dedicate this song and many other Enya songs to my mom whom I love with all my heart and will never ever let her go.

Yeah, I know, but the 'musicology" settled my soul and had me in a good place. I now listen to it in traffic, in the marketplace and when I want to tune out the world and my town. It really helps calm me.
Eu tinha 2 anos quando eu escutei essa música.
Da trilha sonora da novela ¿Que Rei Sou Eu? de 1989.
Not at all corny. Some Beach Boys’ CDs keep me sane. *Kokomo*

This is more than my childhood. As an adult now, and after hearing this song 100s of times, this is heaven. This song has been playing in the back of my head my whole life. I will always love this song and Enya.
So you must be the happiest person to run in to because this song always puts me in a great mood.👌

We listened to this song too much in Brazil. And we can still hear it in relaxing radio stations.
Enya's songs are so gentle, soothing, makes me happy to listen to her songs. Forget what makes you uncomfortable 🥰
Such Incredible beauty in this song. It's no surprise that you feel this way. It's just special.
Morning-sun-woven memories of standing in grand moms kitchen are the best.
I remember falling asleep with the tv on and waking up to an infomercial trying to sell this cd
Sounds better than my experience. I was in pre k and they forced us to take nap time to this song. I didn't want to take a nap. I remember
I think of this song and I can see my conscience awakening when I was maybe 4 or five? It’s hard to explain but I can relate to your comment.
Let me sail, let me sail
Let the orinoco flow
Let me reach, let me beach
On the shores of Tripoli
Let me sail, let me sail
Let me crash upon your shore
Let me reach, let me beach
Far beyond the Yellow Sea
De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De
Sail away, sail away, sail away [x4]
From Bissau to Palau - in the shade of Avalon
From Fiji to Tiree and the Isles of Ebony
From Peru to Cebu hear the power of Babylon
From Bali to Cali - far beneath the Coral Sea
De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De, De
Turn it up, Turn it up, Turn it up, up, Adieu, Ohhhh
Turn it up, Turn it up, Turn it up, up, Adieu, Ohhhh

Sail away, sail away, sail away [x4]
From the North to the South

From the deep sea of Clouds
To the island of the moon
Carry me on the waves
To the lands I've never been
Carry me on the waves
To the lands I've never seen
We can sail, we can sail
With the orinoco flow
We can sail, we can sail...(Sail away, Sail away, Sail away)
We can steer, we can near
With Rob Dickins at the wheel
We can sigh, say goodbye
Ross and his dependency
We can sail, we can sail...(Sail away, Sail away, Sail away)

The first time i heard Orinoco Flow was when i was 17 years old, and i was in a car with 2 other students with a teacher, Mr. Patrick, to get some school stuff, and then this song came on the radio, he immediately turned the volume all the way up in his Opel Kadett.
I have never seen anyone enjoy a song as much as Mr. Patrick.
I am now 54 and always think of this day when I hear this beautiful song :)
Thank you Enya.

@@weaseltown hahah
+StormSong8 i know the feeling i have always thought of her voice as a dream
flirtwithapokerface Yeah, I didn't know what Whitesnake was. Back then FYE and Strawberries music stores had these mini computers in the aisles. You entered the name of the song you were looking for and it told you what album it was on. There was no way to sample the track before hand. I was way off!
What a beautiful enchanting story!!
Caleb Hoo True, thanks for saying so. I feel all cozy down to this day when I think of it.
Our music teacher used to make us sing this song for class every day in elementary school back in '90-'91. I still sing it until today.
Literally one of the most beautiful songs EVER MADE!!!

One of the most peaceful, soothing songs I've ever heard.
In my opinion, Enya is one of the most under appreciated musical talents of the 20th century.
That’s bollocks
Bro you’re crazy. She is Ireland's best-selling solo artist and second-best-selling artist behind U2, with a discography that has sold 26.5 million certified albums in the United States and an estimated 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Just because you don’t know much about her doesn’t mean she’s under appreciated.
@@rustyshackleford7404 Maybe after Sinead O'Connor?
She is as big as U2 !! Back in the late 80s and early 90s she was the best Irish performer.
I love Clannad, Cocteau Twins as well.
If you don’t know them, then please try to listen to them. Specially Clannad.
That is not right that Enya is depreciated for her invaluable songs. They are a testament to a harmonious life. At the same time, the public prefers to hear junk songs. Enya has had some wonderful music that should be appreciated by everyone.
One of the most truly beautiful videos ever produced in my opinion.

It makes me feel nostalgia because I heard it as a child when it first came out
Orinoco Flow by Enya is a song/music video that will always remain very special to me, safely tucked in a specialised compartment in my heart.

Bruh facts 😂
I thought the title was say the word 🤣
...or perhaps the fact that it has been a third of a century since it was a hit.
It is potentially such a pivotal time of life too in shaping you as the person you will become for the rest of your life. She's the queen of new age music
@@abstractum1564 Enya herself says her music is not new age. She says her genre is "Enya"
This is one of my grandmother's favorite songs so it has a very special place in my heart
same here man
MrHoundDog Me also, my sis and I would listen to this together when I was a kid, she is basically my mom, and she got a kick out of how much I liked it being that it had been out 8 years by then and I was so little. Anyways, she passed ten years ago.
luke roberson. grreatsong
もう50年近く聴いている曲。切なくなるな、いくつになっても。
気持ち分かります。
聴きすぎてタイムスリップしちゃうのしょうがない
彼女が大学生の時に発表した曲ですが、彼女は現在62歳です。
Bellissimo brano, eseguito splendidamente! Indimenticabile Roy Orbison!🙏
+aicMadSeason This is beautiful. Thanks for sharing! God bless you and your dear mother. :)
+aicMadSeason You're not alone in this feeling, friend. I hope your mom lives a long, fruitful life.
+aicMadSeason Your mother will always live in your heart, my friend. She and you will never be apart. Blessings to you and your precious mother. She is a lucky woman!
if and when the day comes... come back here and call upon me... I will be here for you my friend.
PS: I also share the same sentiments as you for both my parents.
it will be hard but will change when you have kids of your own.hopefully you will love them as much as you love your mom
