    Lyrics:
    Eurus
    Afer Ventus
So the world goes round and round
    With all you ever knew
They say the sky high above
    Is Caribbean blue...
If every man says all he can
    If every man is true
Do I believe the sky above
    Is Caribbean blue...
    ... Boreas...
    ... Zephyrus...
If all they told was turned to gold
If all you dreamed was new
    Imagine the sky high above
    In Caribbean blue...
    ... Eurus...
    Afer Ventus...
    ... Boreas
    Zephyrus...
    ... Africus...
Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

For me this song will always be a memory of my mom, when I was like 5-7years old, she always playing Caribbean Blue on the CD player and dancing and fooling around. while I was just sitting and watching her. She passed away a few months ago due to Huntington's Disease after being sick for 12 years - This is probably one of my best memories of her - and she also looked very similar to Enya - very beautiful and pure.

Your English is fine. I taught English to foreign students, mostly from Japan, here in California. Many, but not all, were dedicated students. My wife, whom I met in an ESL classroom is Japanese, and I've traveled to Japan 4 times, once as a 9-year-old boy. You were lucky to hear this as a child. Childhood is a special time in life....it doesn't come again, sadly. This song is mysterious to me. It's hard to describe the effect on my emotions. But it certainly is hauntingly beautiful.

Reminds me of hearing this on the radio in my car, driving my girlfriend home (now my wife of 28 years) from South West to North East London in the early hours of the morning. In the days when there was no traffic on the roads late at night in London. Every corner we turned gave me the chance to glance at her beautiful face and then out of the car windows, at a million stars. I was 21 years old then, the best of times. During dull times at work, when I’m on my own and at that 3am awake time, I often look back in my mind to that time and my heart fills with love for her, the happiness, and all we’ve been and will be. (edit) She is still as gorgeous and beautiful today, I love her more than ever. (25 August 2024.)

It’s taken a couple of years since my moms passing to be able to listen to Enya without crying like a baby. She departed this world way too early and out of nowhere, we didn’t see it coming at all. Now, when I hear Enya’s beautiful voice it brings up happy moments and some happy tears. My mom would play Enya on road trips to calm everyone down, she’d play Enya while working in the garden, she played Enya a lot. These songs are forever burned into the forefront of my mind and my heart and I love that.

I think it is difficult to find in the history of music a song so full of nuances, so creative, so hypnotic, that expresses in such an overwhelming way the force of nature and the feelings it provokes. SOMETIMES WHEN I LISTEN TO IT I feel like I'm submerged in the depths of the sea, with its tides and bubbles, swimming like a fish in water.
This song also speaks of the imaginative spirit of human race, of the ability of thoughts to transcend the physical environment. This song encourages me to believe in myself, makes me feel, switch me instantly to a good mood. It is a metaphor for positive thinking.
I love this song and admire Enya. THANK YOU FOR THIS SONG!!!

Nesquik Guy: This is a poem that I wrote while listening to Enya's "Orinoco Flow":
      THE DOVE AND ME
      I lifted my hand
      A dove landed on it
      And I asked it
      “Where have you been?
Have you been east to the sunrise?
Have you been west to the sunset?
Have you been up into the sky
      Where it's noon and midnight?”
      The dove looked at me,
      Then out to sea
      And said, “I have seen
      A world of wonder
      That you've only dreamed of.
I have seen the fountains of the sun
And the frozen glaciers of the moon.
      If only you had wings
So that you could go where I go.”
      I sadly shook my head
And sat down on a rock,
Watching the waves flow onto the beach
Only to stop inches from me,
And then slip back into the sea,
      An endless pattern like eternity.
“I have no wings,” I said.
      “I only have my imagination.”
And the dove said, “Silly human.
Did you think that I meant wings
      Like mine, covered with feathers?”
      “Didn't you?” I asked.
“Of course not,” the dove said.
“Now imagine your arms are wings.”
      I did and they were.
“Now imagine that you're lifting them,”
The dove said. “Now sweep down
      And jump into the sky.”
I did and I was suddenly
      Rising above where I'd sat.
“Now come with me,” the dove said.
      “There are thousands of places
That I have been to, places
That I want to show you.”
      I did and we did.
“Is this what heaven is like?” I asked.
"Where did you think we were?” the dove asked.
"But what about my body?” I asked.
“You won't need it anymore,” the dove said.
      And I didn't.

      For sure.
just to muse and at the risk of getting banal, prosaic, and a bit autistic (and as John Frusciante says, "contaminating the music with sh** words" lol), it kinda' seems like it's about looking for the dream of the obviously massive potential here in life...
maybe about purity of spirit and how resolute one's soul is with being a part of that better potential world... who breaks down to selfishness vs who maintains the better disposition and what it takes to find this world together.
it seems like there are many out there who want that better dream of reality for all and are willing to eat a lot of hardship to do what it takes... but by their nature, good people don't abandon the weak. So it makes you wonder IF it can be found anywhere.
Iny my quiet observation, It most often seem like the rotten apples spoil the bunch... and rhe rotten apples are not who one might assume at a glance. They aren't the weak and broken. They are the hubristic and judgmental. (Apart from blatant violent criminals who obviously are part of the worse reality) the rotten apples are the ones who spread judgment, hatred, and self-cnteredness like a virus. As someone who tries to do more, I have examined myself as I've fallen into being self-centered and it seems due to an environment that's CREATED by abuse and selfishness in a nutshell.
sry if i went too far. like i said, just musing. dont mean to ruin the vibe by being a weirdo.

A documentary about making of the video is included on ‘The Video Collection’ and ‘The Very Best of Enya’ dvds.

And I also know some older ladies that never got married because they like being by themselves and never wanted a husband. I mean, that's all there is to it.

With headphones on, I close my eyes & I am in the sky, dancing amongst the clouds, soaring with a free spirit marveling at creation around me. I feel a sense of release & I am FREE. There really is no "good" excuse but, in a song that's a virtual homage to the capacity of the human imagination (like Enya's "Caribbean Blue") can you imagine something different?
