The more I learn about this industry, the more I see the true landscape of what it is. There are far too many people earning money off musicians art. How do we ensure we maximise our Monies and lessen theirs?
By taking control of your career. Learning the business. Considering models like direct consumer, or hybrids of direct to consumer and regular distribution. Your audience is your audience take control of that and use that to your advantage.

Honestly, being a fiercely independent artist is more important now than ever before. I've heard from multiple accounts that major labels won't even sign anyone anymore unless they ALREADY have a TikTok hit. At that point what's the point in signing if you're already viral?
@@ultimadum7785 I'm guessing they want to see the artists is a profitable product for them. However TikTok really isn't the be all and end all in terms of seeing if someone is worth signing to a label. A question back to you mate, is music going to tie itself up in knots with AI's introduction?
@@Real_Wilkinson I kind of implied it earlier, but these are all just personal anecdotes, and I'm aware that tiktok is not the end all be all, but It does seem to jumpstart new artists careers faster than say, UA-cam for example. Interesting question, I think the Industry sees massive dollar signs in AI music, and are in no way concerned with the fact that It's basically a plagiarism machine. People will always make music for fun no matter what new technology Is coming out, but if major labels are more interested in infinitely generating sheer mediocrity, I say let them. Real music fans will stay in the healthy underground, and it might even become the norm to find "actual HUMAN music there.

Understanding the business. The economics the standards the history the roles and or players but most importantly the loopholes. The record label execs or their attorneys know the tricks you have to know them as well.
@@ThatOrko learn as much as you can about contracts, sign as few as possible, and rely on yourself because it's you that knows exactly what you want and just need to know how to get it. We are more than just artists and creativity doesn't stop when the recording is done.
I've been revisiting some of my favorite artists from the 90's/early 2000's. I've noticed a considerable number of artists starting around 2020, a few as far back as 2018, signing onto block chain projects and the result on many of them sounds like exactly what this video is about, particularly the name and likeness rights. Names like Canibus, RA, Ras Kass... I think they may have lost their likeness rights, and they're being used to push block chain platforms.
