If you are having problems with your Zippo lighter, not sparking, or not lighting, your flint may be the root cause of the problem. This tutorial brings you through all the steps necessary to add, change, or replace the flints in your Zippo wick style lighter. Firstly you must take the lighter insert out of the lighter casing. After that you need to flip the insert upside down to access the flint canal. Unscrew the golden screw and pull out the screw and spring combination. Tap out any small or unused portions of flint and add a new flint into the chamber. Screw your screw back on, put your lighter insert back into the Zippo sleeve, and you are good to go!

Awesome! Thank you SO much for taking the time to do this video! I am now going to use my great grandfathers Zippo's lighter from World War 2 when he was a pilot. William P. Jones is carved on the side of the lighter. He passed away in 1968 so it may have not been used way before that!
Oh dang that’s so awesome! I’m glad the video helped you out
If u don't have a screwdriver or anything on handy, the lid works good
any part of the cover works
THANK YOU I WAS STRUGGLING FOR 10 MINUTES I USED MY KNIFE, A PENNY AND THE PRONGS ON A CHARGER BOX, NOTHING I USED THIS IT POPPED ROGHT OFF! THANK YOU!
This was great. It was my first time replacing a flint and you made it easy.
Thank you. I don't smoke but I need lighters constantly and the ones that use the propane the fuel is incredibly expensive and the kids are always going around flicking them and bleeding and dry. If the supply chain goes down I want to have lighters so I've gotten several Zippos now I need to educate myself on them. Appreciate you
Thank you my man. Quick and easy to follow. You rock!!
I am Richard it’s 930 thank you for the clear speaking and informational video on how to replace this simple but hard process, zippo, Flint lighter, thank you again, Richard
Thanks Richard! I’m glad it helped you out!
Thank you man. I was taking out the little pusher rod like an idiot. Lol
Haha we all have our moments. Glad to help!
Thanks - I have a pristine, unused Ronson Typhoon from the sixties that was my Grandad's - looking forward to getting it working :)
As I watched your tutorial, I was working on my Zippo too. I found you very helpful, but a penny wouldn't unscrew the screw on my Zippo, I had to use a dime instead. Thank you... 😊
UA-cam: want to watch change flint in a zippo from 3 years ago
Me: why yes yes I would thank you random UA-cam recommendations
My dumbass thought you take the flint out of the spring and replace it with the flint. There i was staring at the the two obviously different flints....thanks for the vid
I also thought this, and messed up my pusher rod 😔
Thank you so much bro this really helped

I’m glad it helped you out!!
Thanks for the video
I needed to know this cuz I stole a lighter off a cop when I was a kid and I still got it
Been wondering about this. I inherited 2 nice lighters, don't care for the out sides too much. They have never been used.
Nice! You can always swap the inners to a different outer that you like better!
helped me a ton thx
Omg thank you I lost one of them & I have one the one but this was the prob thanks 🙏🏾💯GG
Thanks you to learn how to work on it
Good video ! You didn't tell me how not to lose the little container of flints after I use one 😉
Duct tape it to your zippo. And voila! 🤣
Thank you comrade
This help thankq
My srew doesnt seem to come off, its a different screw a flat one any tips?
You the best
Thanks 👍
my pusher rod is really worn down, it's like half the size of yours. Would this be a problem?
Is it still pushing the flint all the way up to the striker wheel? If so I don’t really see a problem. If not you could easily fix it by just stacking a few flints until it reaches the striker wheel
@@RobSomeKnowledge Thanks.
I can't us screw it pls help
The zippo cap is designed to do the screw, I don't know y I'm watching these videos ??
I have zippo but i dobt know is there flint i bought new if there isnt flint does it wont work?
Yeah you need flint for it to work
Thanks u saved My Crack binge
You smokin crack with a Zippo my boy? 🤣
Great video had no clue how to do this lol.
Also, what camera do you use?
I’m glad it helped you, here is the camera I use: amzn.to/3nsb0Yz
No seriously though thanku 🙏
Why am I going through flints every other month it seems? Or is that normal?
Really all depends on how much you are sparking the wheel lol. For me that seems like a crapload!!! I could make a flint last a year or more, but then again I don’t use my lighter all the often anymore and also have multiple to use.
Ok, so I did all that and when I try to strike it, the wheel would not move. BTW my zippo is very old and has sat for 9 years without use, so I did use some WD40 on the wheel, wiped it dry and clean, then tried it again and it moves now but still dose not strike. When I drop the new flint in, you can't even see it come out the other end near the wheel, it's like an old flint may be jammed inside. Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Try to look down the tube from the bottom end that you would normally fill it. Can you see any flint stuck? Hold it up near a light and see if you can see straight through it or not.
@@RobSomeKnowledge - You are AWESOME, yes something was stuck, so I watched another video on "common issues with old zippo lighters" and you are right, the old flint was stuck. So I used my smallest drill bit on my Dremel and cleared the way and TA! DA! it works like a charm. Thank you so very much, bless you.
Yes!!! Glad to hear it helped you out!!!
I have a Harley davidson Zippo the model is different than urs, that simple cheap one...will this flint work in other models? Reply ASAP (n I think my model type is call butane lighter, I don't know m new to this thing lol) please help
Its its an actual Zippo brand lighter, yes it will work
Well, well well... I got so aggravated trying to figure out getting the flint outta the doohicky with the red wheel. I decided to just breathe and go ahead and get the knowledge. And there, you had problems, too! And I STILL can't get mine to work! Aaarrrrggggggghhhhhh!
Did you make sure you are turning it the right way? The red wheel only turns one way if I remember correctly.
@@RobSomeKnowledge I've tried going both ways and it won't budge either way. There's a little red protrusion all the way to the left of the dial, facing front. Looks like that stops it from going counter clockwise. It turned smoothly - no catches - to get to this position. I'm stumped, trapped at home and lighter less. 😭
I can’t get my screw loosened to open it, help
Are you turning it the correct way? Counter clockwise. Other than that not sure what else I can do to help.
Do you put in fluid first or flint first?
Doesn’t really matter. They go in separate compartments.
Can you do like 2 flints?
I suppose you can if the spring length will let it close. They last for quite a while though there’s really no need for that in my opinion
@@RobSomeKnowledge thanks bro I just ordered that six pack off Amazon yesterday
No problem, glad to help!!
How long the flint can be use brother?
Really depends how much you use the lighter, the more times you flick it and spark it, the less flint there is...but a flint normally lasts a long time
@@RobSomeKnowledge my lighter didn't use zippo flint but I use sunflower flint. And sometimes, in everyday use for long I change the flint in 2 weeks and sometimes in 1 week..
Lol, I googled this to see what I did wrong, only to notice the flint fell out of the lighter and I was screwing into nothing
I think I lost the flint will it still work without it?
No you’ll need a new one. The flint is what makes the spark to light the lighter. There’s a link in the description for cheap flints on Amazon
I found the flint it’s little to long tho should I cut it and will it still work?
@@Jose10R14 yeah if it’s a flint of any size it’ll work fine.
@@RobSomeKnowledge so if I cut the flint a little it will still work
Yes. Generally if a flint fits you can use it. But I’d you use a flint that is too small in diameter it can feel a little wonky and might be prone to jamming when the flint is almost worn out
i tried unscrewing mine but it didnt even move, i tried doing it both ways.
Is it a real zippo? Is there any rust or corrosion?
Or if you have tiny but man lay hands hence like me hahaha you can unscrew it with your fingers it does hurt though
I thought that pusher rod was the actual flint
Haha a lot of people do at first
I got my flints at a local cigar shop for $1 you got ripped off.
Yes stuff tends to cost more when it is bought online and shipped to your door. Lol.
