Make GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH like an Italian! Mozzarella in Carrozza

Mozzarella in Carrozza brings together two of our favorite cheesy dishes, grilled cheese and fried mozzarella sticks! it's a fried sandwich filled with delicious mozzarella. It's golden crisp on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. The name Mozzarella in Carrozza in Italian means "mozzarella in a carriage", because the strands of melted mozzarella that pull from the sandwich resemble the reins of a horse and carriage. This is an Italian snack that everyone would absolutely love! Delicious gooey mozzarella cheese in every bite!
MOZZARELLA IN CARROZZA (Mozzarella in Carriage)
Serves 3
INGREDIENTS
- 6 slices of White Sandwich Bread
- 6 oz (170g) Low Moisture Mozzarella
(you can also use Fresh Mozzarella but make sure to pat it dry)
- 6 slices Prosciutto Cotto
- 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 3 Large Eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups Breadcrumbs (Plain, Panko, or Italian Seasoned, your pick!)
- Oil for Frying
MARINARA SAUCE FOR DIPPING:
- 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1/2 White Onion, chopped
- 1 large clove Garlic, chopped
- 14 oz canned Crushed Tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon Dried Oregano
- 4 Fresh Basil Leaves (1/2 Tablespoon), chopped
- Salt and Pepper to taste
