    I moved to NYC with $200, no job, and no place to stay. I found 2 jobs, and a place within a week and worked my ass off. It was hard at first, but it got better. Tremendously! It is possible. My advice is to be driven and know exactly why you are here for. And also, loose that uppity and fearful suburban mindset. Don't act like you're too good to work at certain places or eat noodles a few nights out the week. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes. And it takes a real bull to make it in this city. Then again, it could've been my destiny to make it here on such limited resources.

      Gregory Haynes I'm glad it worked out in your favor. However, that wasn't my story... I moved to NYC in January and didn't find a job until April. I searched constantly and when I did get a job it only paid enough to pay my bills & commute to work. I had no money to go out and enjoy life, I couldn't eat out, I couldn't enjoy what "NYC" had to offer, it was a constant struggle. I'm okay with the city life, the hustle & bustle, but I refuse to be a slave to my empty wallet. That is no life to live, so if I can prepare anyone who's considering to move to NYC and give them a few pointers to help better their process, I will do just that.

    Thanks so much for this I do appreciate it this video so much. I am seriously trying to move to Brooklyn and I am already plotting and planning already following the rules and have been for the past 12 months. In your personal opinion as 30 something single Black woman what parts of Brooklyn would you recommend? Also, do you think I can get a decent apartment (with some utilities included) for $1,200/month or should I raise my price? Thanks for any advice

    Is 20,000 a good start? It's about how much I'll have saved by the time I move.

      jeffsomer Everybody's experience is different. Just because you're there & it's working for you definitely doesn't mean it'll work for everyone. Be realistic. I hope NYC continues to treat you well.

      I'm saying that it CAN work for everyone who is moving here. I am an example. I apologize for saying what I said the way I did, I am a nice guy and I don't want to come across like that. Thank you

    Which borough should I live in if I want to save some more money?

    • @MissJaneBarrow
      @MissJaneBarrow  9 років тому +1

      It depends.... Brooklyn is more affordable then Manhattan. However, Queens is typically cheaper then Brooklyn. The downfall to living in Queens is they don't have many subways stops so if you don't drive, you'll have to take a bus to the nearest subway & commute. I enjoyed Brooklyn the most and it was much easier to get around. Faras Ali

    People need to be debriefed about New York City before coming. NYC is a hell. It is so hard to get things done, and get problems that arise, completed and squared away . It is very expensive. It is unfriendly. There is division among racial and ethnic groups like you wouldn't believe. It is a place you aspire AWAY from.If you MUST, visit 2 or 3 days, then leave.
