The Japanese high command always looked to the pie in the sky, hoping for a final engagement bring total victory. If all else failed they were going to use dissappearing ink at their surrender ceremony, again claiming victory.

An outstanding memoir. Superb work. Thank you very much for uploading this and related materials.

America also developed homing acoustic torpedoes, the Mark 24 mine,, dropping sonar buoys and then using the "mines" to home in and sink the subs. They called them "mines" to hide the technology.

FIDO was devastating. Depth charges had a single dig kill rate. FIDO's was in the 20s. Hedgehog was somewhere in between. 👍

My favorite is the great use the IJN made of medical personnel. Most of the late war subs were commanded by "Sea Doctors". "CDR".

The development of the submarine aircraft carrier was remarkable. At least as much was the development of submarine transports to move supplies and personnel. The Kaiten proved to be about as deadly to the Japanese as the Americans. But the lunatic fringe is represented by building submarine that were LSTs---- landing ship tanks.
I guess this illustrates what happens to a defeated navy when it can't give up.

Dedicated and deliberate suicide weapons were an admission that the war was already lost. In addition, these suicide weapons caused the Americans to consider using the atomic bombs. So, the suicide weapons backfired.

The narrator’s wishful thinking of hundreds of Kai tens is in keeping with the Japanese communiques, just fantasy. Once Japan deployed these and the kamikazees from the air, they admitted defeat. These were the tactics of the desperate Japanese government that could have saved over a million Japanese by admitting defeat
