- Twiggy Biography
Born Lesley Hornby to working class parents, she was the girl gifted with the cute face who went on to become Twiggy, the female persona of London in the swinging Sixties and the world's first Supermodel.
Twiggy oh my goodness. She was my model hero. I was in my teens when we first noticed her in America. I was skinny like her, I was a natural blonde. I went and had my hair cut just like hers. And dressed as close to her as I could. Twiggy I'll never forget you. As you came up on Goggle. I just had one big smile.
Thank you for my teenage years!!!
Ain’t it the truth…we all wanted the “look”! Those were the days! I will be 68 on Sept 3rd but when I watch this and see her, it all comes back to me…..you feel young again just looking at her.
She was mine too !! I styled my eyes after hers !! ( it took awhile to get those bottom lashes just right !! )👀💖
Twiggy was EVERYTHING! in the 60's when we lived in London, influencing every fashion conscious girl.
We are all in our 70's now, but look back with fond memories. We ❤️you, Twiggy.
When she came to the US it was like a wind blowing across the country; every other top model seemed stiff, haughty, and very old school.
I never took notice before, but Twiggy , starting off as a model in about 1966 and like you said "we're all in our 70's now, then you were all in the same age group as Steve Marriott of the Small Faces, when they were big, from 1965 to 1969? ( I guess you can tell I was and still am a Small Faces fan, especially a fan of Steve Marriott).
i am happy she has nothing to do with botox !! she still has that natural beauty
😂😂😂😂😂 she has a shitload of botox. You are talking about fillers - which is a completely different thing. But hey... why not scream loudest when having no idea - common thing today
@@dianaberlin4767 Calm down.
She has had no botox, every muscle in her face is moving. She can frown, lift her eyebrows... trust me, I DO have Botox and can’t use those muscles. Wish I had such a beautiful skin 😍
at times genetics plays a great part of it i am nearly 58 years old and i still don't have any wrinkles
She still looks amazing now in her late 60s.
Wham 1980s Crazy Fan she does but I think she'd look even more a,axing with that pixie cut!
Wham 1980's Crazy Fan When she has been airbrushed yeah but if you see her in real life as i did, she kind of looks like a woman who is nearing seventy but she is all natural, no botox, facelifts for Twiggy and when we stopped to say hello, nice to meet her etc she was very friendly, very natural and when i said we come from Watford, she thought it was hilarious and was cackling away. lovely lady .
So do a shit ton of woman, nowadays
Gah...those eyes!!! She had such deep, pretty eyes!
Yeah, Twiggy has beautiful eyes.
"Who is your favorite philosopher?" She made Woody look like an idiot.
She was too old for him.
literally like he couldn’t even name one himself
she shoulda started quoting Dickens and really fucked him up
Woody was burning on intellectualism with that bit. Watch
*Woody Allen stuck on a movie line* , a 3min scene from Annie Hall
Funny how it's the pseudo leftist intellectuals who are the PC police who inflate humor into hate and inflate hate into humor. Woody's movies attempted to teach intellectuals to make fun of themselves, instead they've become Hitler in 2024.
Twiggy was all the rage when I was a teenager.
She is such a likeable person...great personality 💋
Isn't she lovely? I mean, a genuinely lovely person.
She radiated kindness and charm.
Still does.
She was warm and approachable, always. I remember how she took the world by storm! Generous and kind, THAT is what set her apart, why teens loved her.
There was something about her. Cute. Perfect model for the new fashions of the time. Iconic.
I am completely glad I watched this. I've always thought she was amazingly beautiful, but I don't think many of us knew how incredibly smart and sensible she is. She obviously has standards that she lives up to and to be as relevant today as she was when she started is a very great accomplishment.
I don't really ever expect to get on UA-cam and find a 'Whatever Happened to Twiggy' video. When she leaves public life, if she ever does, she'll do it because she wants to and on her terms. That's a true and very valid successful existence.
Her humbleness gives me positive mindset about her.
I love twiggy she was adorable then and adorable now I think I liked her best with her short hair I think she should cut it now it suits her much sweet face
she was so unique and just lovely!
No other model has created such a worldwide stir than Twiggy... NONE. She changed the game forever.
Wrong! GIA.
tiffsaver mmmmm Betty Paige
tiffsaver yes and for models looking like woman who suffer from anorexia, looks much more healthy in her older years
Kate Moss? Gia Carangi? Naomi Campbell? Gisele?
@@jenmb2679 Veruschka was the absolute top of the top at that era!
Twiggy was the first model to become a household name, therefore making her the world's first supermodel. The fact that she was not model standard height of 5'9-5'11 and was only 5'6 was great. Women could identify with her.
I heard it was Jean Shrimpton before Twiggy
it's hard to identify with someone who weighs 95 lbs
I don't recall that models were particularly tall back then. 5ft 6in would have been about standard, I think. I went for some interviews for modelling as a teenager in the 60s and I was 5ft 6in, and this was never raised as an issue - although perhaps surprisingly, I was told a couple of times I was a bit too thin and would have to put on some weight to fit into stock dress sizes!
ETA: But maybe this was after Twiggy had set a new standard - for height, if not for weight.
@@anastasia10017 why? there are a lot of people who are skinny like her its not so rare
I agree !! I just love her !! She was my hero !!.Im only 5'2" !! & I styled my makeup and I wore minis after Twiggy!! 👀😍 this "Biography" video made me feel good !! Shes amazing...still !
I was so fortunate to have seen Twiggy and Tommy T in the Broadway Show, My One and Only-- May, 1984. They were magic!
The early Twiggy closely resembled Edie Sedgewick, who actually predated her a bit with a very similar look. Fortunately, Twiggy was not mentally unbalanced and got through her experience sensibly and successfully. And didn't die young.
I LOVED TWIGGY AT 10 YEARS OLD AND MY MOM GOT ME A TWIGGY LUNCH BOX! THIS WAS THE DAYS OF 3 T.V. STATIONS AND YOU WAIT FOR MAGAZINES SHOWING TWIGGY :>) NO INTERNET AND SO I COULDN'T GET ENOUGH OF SEEING HER PICTURES. FUN :>)
I was 12! her face was fun to draw. Enjoy seeing these photos/ films we never had access to.
still have that lunch box? 🤣
I never knew anything about Twiggy, now that I watched this documentary, she's so lovely!
I have so many more songs and documentaries of Twiggy on my UA-cam channel. If you are interested, then browse my UA-cam channel for so much more from Twiggy. Good luck.
Candace Michelle I have a book ad she was on the cover.
She just seems like a really nice lady. Very vibrant and I like that she stays with the times. She didn't peak in the 60's and then stay there. Good for her.
Oh those eyes, twiggy rocks !
Woody Allen is such a creep.
+dandylioness Yes, he is a creep, he proves it here in the 'interview' term used loosely as he is determined to make a young girl named Twiggy look foolish. He is an A-class A-hole!
He married his fucking daughter. Eeewww. Who cares if she was adopted. The relationship was father-daughter.
Mia Farrow still won't speak to him.
Ebun, do we care? LOL
@@CherylSimser well said
@@TheRockerdunny The comments here are not for him, they're for other viewers.
There's a lot of rubbish said about Twigs, all you need to know is she was and is one of us, which is why everyone loves her, NO drugs NO scandal, NO bs, straight and down to earth
She's such a down to earth person. I absolutely love her 😍
big eyes and huge eyelashes love it
She’s still lovely and the first model I remember adoring!
she was such a beauty!!
One of my best gal pals looked so much like Twiggy and when she deliberately emulated the Twiggy look, it was simply astonishing, like the perfect doppelgänger. Twiggy was all the rage, but don’t forget Suzy Parker & Jean Shrimpton before her - Twiggy did’nt! I love how Twiggy always stayed humble and down to earth.
Thanks for reviving a memorable part of the 60s for me. Twiggy was the It Girl for sure. As for Woody Allen, he's a total jerk!
Never realized how lovely she is all the way around. She deserved her success and continued success. You've made me smile Twiggy. :)
I do want Twiggy to continue her success in fashion and music. For the last 9-ish years, I have been waiting for Twiggy to release a new musical album based on 1950s Rock 'N' Roll. I own all of Twiggy's musical and vocal albums.
@@CesareVesdani Oh how wonderful for you. :) You really have something special!
@@jeanettesilhouette5678 Thank you so much. I do have something special.
Brilliant biography very original down to earth beauty
Well the saying goes the girl next door , she seems totally unfazed then and now ,she’s lovely .
Oy Tyra's imitation of Twiggy.... Also a pity they just skipped over her singing career. I Adore Twiggy
Beatifull girl by all means but at that era Veruschka was the absolute top of them all!
Jean Shrimpton was a supermodel, before Twiggy. She did her own makeup, too. And Twiggy herself says The Shrimp was a huge international star, before her.
I've stayed at her hotel in Cornwall. She is very beautiful and classy.
I love the both and featured them in my video about Richard Avedon
Twiggy was the world's first supermodel and the most known and beautiful woman in the world.
Cesare Vesdani I think she was beyond a supermodel. She was an icon.
Twiggy is both a supermodel and an icon.
Cesare Vesdani Tiggy is definitely an Icon.
Cesare Vesdani. I am spanish. Twiggy is known in my country and I reckon it is not easy if you were born in 1949. In my country magazines write Twiggy or Leslie was the prelude of Kate Moss. I don't want to rush but Twiggy seems more sensible than Moss.
@@elenachacon8660 Yes, that true. Twiggy is so down to Earth that she is more sensible than Kate Moss.
I always wanted the “Twiggy” doll! Never got one....
Woody Allen is just like creepy mark Zuckerberg. Very strange
he sucks
I was a teenager in the 60’s and Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton were my favorite models. An incredible time to be a teenager. Enjoyed buying magazines that featured them, and there were many. Wish I had all of them now!
The 60s were incredible, but Twiggy topped all the artists of this era. Today, she is still going strong. God bless Twiggy.
Could you PLEASE turn off the background music which isn't necessary so we can listen to what Leslie is saying? I am exactly the same age as Twiggy is now, 71 and I remember her so well and trying to look like her, buying Twiggy dresses in 1967 and wearing a shorter hairstyle.
Love her hair!
A little tinker bell..
No, she was very much more than that.

The days before beauty blenders when women used their own hands to apply makeup.
Stunning gorgeous. She was the first supermodel
I love Brits, they're frickin awesome.
We are just ourselves really, and think the same about Americans... Awesome 😎
Very natural and beautiful My friend and I had scrap books 📚 filled with pictures of twiggy
I wanted. To look. Like. Twiggy the. 60 s. She still is. Stunning. Now.
Her appeal lies in that she
Has got both feet on the ground, and has no illusions about herself.
She will always be my # 1
Girl, from her early start to the present. Her attitude is
Just utterly captivating!!!
0:32 Sharon Tate! I'm surprised that a show like this could make such a mistake!
One of the most beautiful faces ever. Gorgeous. I see alot of name dropping in these comments saying this person or that person came before her, then why is it she gets the credit? Obviously they’re all missing something while Twiggy brings it all together, her lips and blue eyes are like a work of art
There were no women like her before, nor after. That is a hoax. Twiggy is the greatest female personality of all time. She is 72 now and looks very beautiful still at her age. God bless Twiggy.
The thing about Twiggy she was not only pretty but so down to earth like any school girl
THANK YOU SO MUCH ! FOR THIS EXCELLENT DOCUMENTARY ON LESLIE HORNBY aka TWIGGY ! SHE IS SUCH A WONDERFUL < DOWN TO EARTH > TALENTED AND FASCINATING WOMAN ! ALL MY LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO TWIGGY !
You are welcome. I am also a huge lover of Twiggy. She is 100% down to Earth.
It was so wonderful to watch this documentary, I've always heard of her but didn't know that much about her having been born in 72 I kind of missed that boat but I'm so excited I learned about this today. Thank you so much for sharing this!
You are welcome to watch this documentary of Twiggy whenever you want. I like her very much as well.
She WAS beautiful , she has been beautiful and..she IS STILL BEAUTIFUL ! THKS Cesare Vesdani for your vidéo ! 🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😍
Twiggy's beauty is timeless. Today, at 74 years old, she looks just as beautiful as she did years ago. What a blessing. Amen.
@@CesareVesdani YES!🥰😘
so iconic...i had a twiggie doll...had that hair cut too...
Thank you for uploading!!!
Some of us were very tiny slim, petite short girls but very curvy. Yes we all wanted to look tall and willowy, just like Twiggy. We dieted and exercised to dangerous points but could never get 'the Twiggy look". I don't know what was in our brains back then. We didn't do drugs... We just thought the boys would love us if we looked like Twiggy. But they didn't seem to worry if we were curvy and had hips, boobs and a tiny 19inch waist, like I had(if only I could get my hips and boobs down to same size as my waist, I used to think, in despair...). Older women would look at us silly young ones trying to be like Twiggy and say "You look like a shapeless twig, a piece of floorboard or something...Not at all a womanly shape a real man would desire..."But we just dismissed such senior female comments as old bags talking who didn't have a clue about fine class and style.I admit to buying a Twiggy style dress and shortening it, to show off long legs. At least I had legs. And the boys would go "Wow! She's got legs that go up to her waist! Get a load of that!". We finally realised that we did not have to Twiggy like in order to score with the best of the lads...Thank God for that! And our mothers sighed with relief that we girls were not going to die of anorexia, after all...
Annemarie May 😂
i saw an old photograph of mia farrow with a pixie haircut...they could be sisters...n...tinker bell...
Great biography. Someone said she was manufactured. Wow! Not so, she put the work in.
They always deride young women’s accomplishments.
Will I do believe there is definitely truth to that. She didn't just make herself. Someone saw her look and then exploited it, and then she made it her own after a while. That's usually how it works. But it seems like she turned out to be a decent lady and didn't get full of herself and her looks.
I've always thought she looked remarkably like Jean Harlow. Look at her at 21:10
You're right!
Yes, you are so right. I never before realized that, cool 😎
Dame Twiggy now. ❤
I know that she is called Dame Twiggy. However, I simply like to call her Twiggy.
"I'm not gonna stop,Until I drop". I love it.🌼
I love Twiggy!
Twiggy was cute, I didn't grow up in the sixties but my mother always talked about Twiggy. I just watched her in this John Carpenter movie called body bags, in the early 90s. She was older, at least in her early forties. To be honest, I thought she looked a lot better when she got older and had a little more meat on her then when she was that tiny pixie. Nevertheless an icon in fashion, but I definitely like her hair and her look when she got older. I wish you did more acting gigs!
You can imagine everything comes after her She's fascinating & a Model legend of all time!
Biography was the Premium Best as was A&E in the 90's.
Whomever destroyed that channel - "have ya learned anything, yet?"
I agree, that's not just Nostalgia speaking. Even etruehollywoodstory had some great documentaries back in the day. I don't know what the hell happened to television, it's like everyone just got lazy and no one puts any work into anything anymore.
Fun fact: My great aunt was Twiggy's personal assistant ❤️
Really?
@@CesareVesdani I actually may have botched that. I could have sworn the story growing up was that Peggy was Twiggy's personal assistant, but I literally just got off the phone with my dad and he just told me something I had never heard before - that Twiggy and Peggy were actually very good friends and owned a strip club together... which he "believes" was called The Pink Lady. I'm going to have to ask a few relatives to confirm that name though. Aunt Peggy was the wife of actor Paul Burke (from The Naked City), and she was actually a stand-in for Rosemary Clooney too. Pretty cool.
So this is where my twiggy hair style came from when I was a teen.
Beauty then and now. So iconic
one word comes to mind... GORGEOUS ❤️💙💚💛💜🧡
Jean Shrimton was the first true supper model and someone Twiggy admired when she was first getting Started.
Tofday she is a very attractive woman and exactly my type of woman. Wow!
amazing Twiggy..!!
Happy Shared Birthday, Twiggy!
The clips of Twiggy in The Boy Friend, and as Eliza Doolittle (perfect casting for Eliza's Cockney phase; but uberimpressive blossomed into an upperclass, elegantly intoning swan) are iconic, and hint at performances for the ages.
Sold her my car. She arrived with her husband, Leigh Lawson. Lovely people, very down to earth and polite and friendly. I did not even realise who they were till he left me a compliment slip and I Googled him. I somehow recognised her from the M&S advert but could not put 2 and 2 together just had a feeling I had seen her face before somewhere.
Sorry but Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton were lovely beautiful girls but the absolute queen of all female creatures was Veruschka!
Twiggy was born in 1949, not 1959.
Robert Powell played Jesus in Jesus of Nazareth
Every time they talk about Twiggy and Tommy Tune, they show photos or clips of her with ex Royal Ballet Company dancer, Christopher Gable. What the hell??
There goes my three course meal.... TWIGGY GET UR HAND OUT OF THERE OH MY GOD ITS STUC bahahahahahahahahahahha
😂😂😂😂😂
She’s literally so pretty I wish I looked like her
I was very thin growing up & self conscious but when Twiggy came along i was suddenly in fashion
beautiful slimness I love it
The "Twiggy Frequency"
💯✔🏆
I styled my eyes after Twiggy !! I just love her still !!💖 I'd trim my eye liner brushes down as thin as I could to paint those lower lashes !! I'd take forever to get my makeup done as much like hers as I could!!( luckily I have big enough eyes to be able to pull off such a look !!)👀 Yes! A Southern California girl , styled after Twiggy! Even had to have "Yardley of London" brand white frosted lipstick !!.I can't count how many times I got sent home from school for wearing mini skirts and dresses!! Lol !! 😆 🤣💕
thanks for posting!!!
TWIGGY WAS🌅🌅🌅🌅🌅 COOL
Hello, does Twiggy have a Fan Club ? Please put the link ...ok ? Thanks....John Steelman from North Carolina.
I do not know whether Twiggy has a fan club. She has a Twitter and Facebook page though.
I think one of her best works was her, at 49 years old, singing a kickass song for the movie Dead Man On Campus, where despite her age, that song of hers was just as great and awesome as the rest of the songs in that movie by younger artists. It was a great song for the main character where he was about to get laid with his girlfriend in that movie.
I like all of Twiggy's career. I am still waiting for Twiggy to release a new album.
@@CesareVesdani You never know. Despite Tim Cappello having sung a memorable piece called "I Still Believe"" in the 1987 movie The Lost Boys, and yet not having come out with an album for many years, he finally came out with one in 2018, so yeah, you never know.
@@Steveman27 I agree with your point. I also hope that Twiggy releases a new album as soon as she can. I have been waiting for her to release an album since 2013.
Even now, i think she is still one of the most beautiful women in the world! xxxxxx
That's true. She is the most beautiful woman in the world.
A mod icon! Just wonderful!
Loved here she's cute retro and I loved here.
GOING TO MAKE YOU A STAR!!!!!!!!!
He didn't have just a car-- he had a quite rare Toyota 2000 sports car-- their first real effort at a sports model.
It's interesting that she doesn't like short hair and it was the haircut that made her famous. 👱♀️👱♂️
I know.
