    Actions in sequential projects appear to work when then the Next view is set to "Unified". If you select "Group by Project" (as I think it was in your video), it shows all the actions for the project.

      That did the trick! Thanks for pointing that out. Pinned your reply for full visibility. 👍

      For those of you who need a bit more clarification, what this guy is saying is that FIRST - in the project you have created where you want to set the individual tasks to show one by one in order after each is completed (i.e. sequential)....... SELECT SPECIFIC PROJECT FOLDER > click the down arrow in square box in top right hand corner > PROJECT BEHAVIOUR > SEQUENTIAL
      Then, to see the tasks appear in the NEXT area (one by one as the previous is done), go to the NEXT area > click the 3 dots top right corner > select UNIFIED LIST.
      PS The UNIFIED LIST - shows all single actions PLUS the next action in PROJECT subtasks.
      THE SEQUENTIAL NEXT ACTIONS - (I think) just displays the next action in all the PROJECTS you have got going.
      PPS - please correct me someone if I am wrong. thanks

    Best thing about nirvana is the lifetime premium plan. No monthly subscription. God I hate subscriptions!

    If nirvana isn’t good for GTD from a horizons/goals point of view, which have you tried lucas that you think is the best for GTD and super easy? I am on NirvanaHQ and partly love it and hate it. Yes, it has all the functionality like energy level and deadline date but it is a ballache to fill in! I can’t be bothered because I have tonnes of to do items which vary from week to week and I want a system that is super simple. In NirvanaHQ you have to keep clicking things to open things up to add things - why can’t it all just open it in one go? My other moan about NivanHQ is the inability to attach emails or documents like you can with todoist. But personally, I don’t like the way todoist is not made specifically for GTD. So back to you - which have you used for GTD which is the best - best being very easy to input data, attach documents and things and very pleasing on the eye - i.e. really well laid out.

      Sounds like you're looking for a very holistic tool to manage your complete sytem in one place. You'll probably like Trello: ua-cam.com/video/lDIZjF79le4/v-deo.html
      Personally I also enjoy working with Todoist (easy to add labels/tags by typing instead of clicking): ua-cam.com/video/6-168b2Gqrk/v-deo.html
      I've also tried out TickTick recently which I'll post a video on soon which I found very enjoyable and easy to use. Good luck with finding a system that works for you!

    I didn't use it bc no attachments and you can't put a time due (or reminders for that time). Ticktick it is!

    Great video, but I was confused at 8 minutes in when you started talking about the Tickler File. Why is this even needed? Scheduled will show items that are recurring scheduled and single scheduled items, but why would it matter to show single scheduled items via a tickler? Isn’t the Tickler system a bit redundant? If a task needs doing by a certain day, it needs doing full stop - whether recurringly scheduled or not? Help me understand if I have got my thinking wrong. And thanks - you’re great.

    • @LucasPrigge
      @LucasPrigge  3 роки тому +2

      Great question. The reason I separate those (in all my systems) is that Tickler file items aren't necessarily actions to complete. I tend to view a Tickler File as a 'deferred inbox' of sorts - the tickler file item is purely there to prompt me when I need to see something and decide whether it's still relevant and actionable at that time.
      I've had Tickler file items go many directions after processing - some of them I deleted because they were just no longer relevant whatsoever, some of them I postponed further, some of them I turned into Next actions with tags, but some of them also required more processing work as they turned out to be full-fledged projects.
      Since it isn't guaranteed that a Tickler file item is actionable now just like a task is, I prefer to keep it separated from the actionable task view.

    • @Quagmire425
      @Quagmire425 2 роки тому

      I agree, I was confused by this too. Scheduled IS the tickler file. Tasks should only be in scheduled (either by start date or due date) if there is NO WAY they can be done before that date. So they in effect "hide" in Scheduled until their date comes. Great review though! I only wish the Nirvana team was more active in development.

    Seems to me that using an electronic system like this means that the inbox is redundant, unless it literally is your email inbox. You're processing the data as you're uploading it, so might as well add each task straight into the appropriate folder; ie next, waiting, someday etc. I don't see the point in adding a ton of tasks into your in box manually, and then move them into a folder, manually; makes no sense to me. The other huge thing missing from these apps is an integrated calendar, which is what you would use in order to schedule tasks. I still think using outlook is a better solution, though Google calendar has introduced a (very crude) calendar task function. Noting comes close to the old Palm Plot from the early 2000s that auto scheduled tasks into your calendar, even breaking them into time blocks, all based on your processing/filtering criteria

    • @LucasPrigge
      @LucasPrigge  Рік тому +2

      Hey Steve, the point of the inbox is to quickly dump thoughts into there and process them later. In this video, I demonstrate it in one go but they are separate actions. In practice, you won't always have time to immediately park new thoughts into their appropriate folders or clarify what they mean exactly. Maybe you're in a conversation, on the go, or it's a half-asleep thought you want to get to when you wake up in the morning. If you're looking for an all-in-one app including calendar & auto-scheduling functionality you can look into Sunsama or Sorted3. Videos on these tools on my channel!

      @@LucasPrigge I thought of that after I posted! I also have but don't use, an app called brain toss. Can capture notes, audio and pictures, which is great, but isn't linked to anything, so you've got to put dome effort into processing. My biggest issues are combining paper note taking with an electronic calendar. I still haven't figured if its better to use paper or digital to develop my action lists. Also, having a mobile app that doesn't communicate with my outlook calendar means that 90% of my needs won't be covered (ie work) so I think I'm pretty much stuck with Microsoft's own task / to do manager apps which are not really formatted for gtd. The biggest issue is scheduling tasks into my calendar, based on priority and duration. It's actually quicker to do this manually at the moment than use an app! I need to invest more time I think in working out how to use the apps better, but ultimately, less than 50% of my tasks derive from email, they're from conversations; and I won't be giving up pen and paper for that!

    I don’t much care for nirvana on the one fact that it’s impossible to use it on your mobile device as a standalone, everything has to be organized on the web app then synced to the mobile app.....or am I mixing something????

    • @johnmanning5117

      Are you talking about the mobile app? What do you find that you need the web app for?
      I realise this comment is a couple of years old so maybe the concern no longer exists.

    • @LucasPrigge
      @LucasPrigge  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Robert, you can read up on that here: help.nirvanahq.com/category/quick-guide/
      I would probably avoid using it since I want to work context based as much as possible. A list of starred items or projects puts you at risk of context switching more than necessary, in my opinion, which is why I didn't cover it.
