Good to see you back !
Interesting concept. It would be great I think if there would be a possibility to copy a table from my notion database having context and other parameters available, and it could help out filling the missing information in and decide what could be the best way forward using already existing information. Anyway thanks, looks like a nice tool to play with.
You could just try doing that. Tables from Notion don't copy over nicely but ChatGPT tends to understand them regardless and will likely produce a proper table in a response.
Why not just use start date for marking next actions?
Tasks with start dates imply that time needs to pass before it becomes something you can do, meaning it's not a "next" action but a "scheduled" action. On the other hand, not every action without a start date is a next action, as it may be blocked by another task that needs to be completed first. That's where the "next" tag comes in - it adds the missing piece to label tasks that can be done now, with no time or other tasks blocking it from being worked on.
@@LucasPrigge I've tried using next action tag but it didn't work for me. I prefer to have next_actions list and move tasks from (or create based upon) areas of focus or projects into next actions list (kind of a backlog). This allows me to treat areas and projects as checklists or project support materials instead of future actions plan. It's more in line with what GTD source book suggests. But with things, I can just set a start date for **today**. Done, it's going to be displayed in my today view (and tomorrow and day afetr ...). If I need to do something on given date things have deadline, but I would use callendar anyway. For me, start date is date when task can be started, so if it is set to today, it means the same as next action. If there is start day set in future it mean I don't care for it now. If there is no start date, it's not next action at all. I'm not going to set start date I I'm unsure it will be doable at that date. If it is blocked by other task, why even bother setting start date? Now, I think it boils down to an agreement you make with yourself. And agreements can be renegotiated. I.e. If I'm using todoist, I can't use start date, todoist have no start date yet and any overdue date is displayed in red ;/ But switching to things, I do not need to follow the same scheme I was using in todoist.
@@LucasPrigge If start date is today, no time need to pass. Things has a start date and a deadline date. If one thinks of a start date as a `do date`, sure he may need a label.
love it! thank you, this is awesome.
Good to hear from you. It’s been a while my friend
guagliò grazie! this is really interesting and would like to replicate so badly. The only thing that stops me is that I have sooo many info already scattered across Google keep, trello and one note. Have to find a way to move all of the to this system
I was wondering how you deal with the saved searches currently as it is not working exactly in Asana like you showed in the video
Rock on, Lucas! Rock on! I'm currently taking your AMAZING paid course and I can't get Tic Tick out of my mind (in a good way). Your course is so great that TickTick should thank you because their website is not as helpful! Thank to your game-changing course! With sincerest grateful and delight, this is for is you, (and all). I know this is from 3 years ago but it's the only video so far that made me want to try ClickUp for GTD (over ticktick). Trying to use on my own I found that there's too many things...I was getting lost on my learning process
Very Clear, Very Helpful. I understand the Apple Notes as well.
Things 3
Hey - what are you thoughts on this? As a mom to two kids, it gets overwhelming to just complete tasks and race against time. We see people using tonnes of productivity apps and it stems from our need to optimize time better and better. 4000 week by Oliver Burkeman says that we cannot truly ever finish everything on our plate. People try notes, printouts of school schedules, shared calendars, whatsapp, post its and more but it just felt more fragmented. What helped me was to start with priorities - block time for gym, reading, social media, work, kids bed-time, start a new habit, work focus time, 1 client presentation, coffee with mom every 2 weeks, etc then architect tasks around it - like rocks, pebbles and sand. Designing your life around your priorities helps you make calendar an execution tool and not get dictated by lists and tasks. Notes and calendaring + reminders in one place is pretty effective. By the way - to solve this, we are building fhynix and would love for folks to try it
We need more people like you on the planet, sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SALUTE!
MS TO DO Fan Here
doesn't seem to be working
I would use this if the chart showed daily, weekly , monthly data - which I understand that it doesn't. I'm using Habitify instead for this - which I do find to be a clunky app but at least it shows Day-Week-Month chart data
Thanks for the video! However, I'd love to know more about using the "Include Keyword" feature in advanced filters, especially when I need to include 2-3 keywords. Could you provide some guidance on that?
do you offer consulting services?
what is the best video to learn how to manage a project with multiple people on Tick tick! Maybe its in your course. Thank you for your content, super valuable !
Amen
I really like the way you approach from the perspective of users, and helping people to make a right decision right from the beggining of their jorney with the app. I would give you more than one thumbs up for your work)
I have duplicated my habits how do you delete 200 of them all at once ?
goat
But no tables
What a fantastic, fantASTIC, FANTASTIC tutorial! 🔥 The Amplenote team should hire you to make a dedicated tutorial series. Thank you, Lucas. I don't use the GTD methodology, but still learned a bunch from this video. I've watched it multiple times. Great work. Thank you. 🙂
So good!
I was thinking to use Upnote but maybe I don't need to? looks like I can use ticktick for notes too?
Depends on the complexity of your Notes. I haven't reviewed Upnote at this time so can't compare the two.
So what if I have reference material for working out, but that's also under my projects?
If it's part of a project, it's active support material so you can move it out of (passive) reference until it's no longer actively needed. Or duplicate it and keep the original in Reference as a template!
I am not so clear with the difference of a context (tag) and project (list)
Context = a condition that needs to be met for a task to be performed, so it's mapped to a task via a tag Project = a desired outcome that requires more than 1 step to achieve, so it groups at least 1 task in a list.
1:37 David says to the audience that these full drawings will be released as part of a newsletter. Does anyone know where I can find these? Thanks!
mailchi.mp/davidco/gtd-newsletter-easiest-hard-rule-to-follow-456365?e=bcb6391bdb
It's interesting to hear Carl's perspective on this. If you aren't familiar with him, Cal Newport does time-blocking for planning the week as well. He's an author who's written several books (Slow Productivity, Deep Work, etc.) on the ideas of accomplishing important things in the long run by managing time in the short-run.
can i stop the habit in rest days and still keep my progress on it?
Yes, if you use intervals properly by excluding your rest days.
Video missed on setting up the project, choosing the appropriate template etc. You jumped straight into an example board which was already setup. If it wasn't the intent on showing how to use Jira to GTD from scratch, you should have put a disclaimer that the viewer needs to watch some other content first.
I stay on Todoist. Simple, enough.
Wow! 👏👏
thank you
Amazing comparison with all the details I wanted to learn! Thank you.
Thanks for the great content. Just to be clear, this is for the paid version only?
Correct!
Is there a keyboard shortcut to say insert an exisiting template into 'Today', etc?
Not that I'm aware of.
Not able to find Template feature
Doesn’t work with spectrum webmail. Limited to 100 emails at a time
Well I use Microsoft to do for year I think to switch to Google as I need to integrate it with google email. The problem is that google does not support folders.
Great video, this highlights that with smart use of tags you can kind of get some of the premium features like task duration etc for free, by tagging time durations like yiu have 👍
There really needs to be a 'make tasklist sequential' though, because a big list with every item needing to be done on order is a faff, unless I'm missing something. I think you mention this in your things you don't like about it vid, it seems like such an oversight
I don't know how to thank you. Here's a flower 🌹.......😀
Is it possible to use Ticktick as a budget planner?
I would not recommend it since it does not support calculations - I do my budgeting in Google Sheets, but Microsoft Excel, Notion or specialized budgeting apps are also good options.
@@LucasPrigge I hope Tick tick has a feature that would integrate Google Sheets directly.
How do I customize the Today view? I don't have the same options and I want to add in some of them, but I don't really know how (also there is an option to only have two levels of frog, either on or off, i think it turns that on by default now)
*Looks at TickTick and Todoist's functions that needs premium account and its pricing... - Thank you sir. But I love to stay on To do
